Cahill Out

It was a sly unneeded push, definitely uncalled for in a friendly... if he was injured in a tackle or pulled up then fair enough, but its worse that it's happened and he's lost his chance to represent his country because of a little, dirty push.

Just to clear up the Richards situation.

He got the hump because he was informed he was not in the squad by text message.

And at that point told them to shove his stand by status.

And that was that.

I'd get the hump as well, if I was told by text message. He should have been told either in person, or more likely, over the telephone. Should be number one right back, in my opinion, anyway.

Isn't Kyle Walker injured?

Bit of an OTT reaction on the foul, it was a push, I'm sure he didn't mean to injure anyone. Just one of those things.

Gives Lescott the chance he deserves, so that's good.

Not happy about the Liverpool love in coming from Woy though, is he trying to make it up to their fans or something? It's disgraceful that these players can have a season that bad but still be picked because they play for Liverpool.

It's unlucky for Frank to be out, but Cahill will be a bigger miss IMO, looked a class defender whenever I've seen him play. Big shame. Would also have liked Richards to have been in the squad.

Lescott might be better right now but I would've liked to have Cahill and Terry together. With them being partners at Chelsea for a start, but also after the disaster last time when we had two left sided CBs together against Germany. Hard to say how much it matters but generally better to have the right fit.

I agree.

Ferdinand's agent has also come out today and said the way Hodgson brushed him aside was "disrespectful"

To be honest I am a little surprised that Hodgson who seems such a decent bloke has treated either player this badly.

The Carrick mystery was solved by Hodgson informing the media that Carrick's people told the FA not to bother even considering him for the squad.

If you want my opinion I think what we have here is a lot of rich arrogant young men with an attitude problem, although in Richard's case I think he may have a genuine reason to be cheesed off.

So Cahill is out and there are now six Liverpool players in the England team heading to the euros.

At least by the end of the group stages they will finally know what it's like to finish 4th.

The only positive I can see is that Liverpool are a good cup team lol

His favouring of Liverpool players is a bit embarrassing IMHO. It's as if he's trying to win back the Liverpool fans by picking their players.

Fed up of people moaning about Hodgson before the euros even begin. We have watched for years quality England players in major tournaments that couldn't give a **** about the country.

Hodgson seems to have picked a squad full of players who want to play.... Richards, Carrick etc. did not want to be there or have the drive to offer any value.

I believe although not technically the best squad we have taken to a major tournament this could be the hungriest and most passionate.

From The Telegraph:

Many Manchester City fans cannot understand why Kelly has been chosen instead of Micah Richards. He had refused to go on standby only because Stuart Pearce rang him, not Hodgson, and he took that as an insult when the manager called everyone else. If Hodgson had phoned, Richards could have been talked around. Instead, he left for Barbados with an equally disappointed Daniel Sturridge.

So some of the players are upset that that the manager didn't phone them personally and begged them to go on stand by? Good. About time these wankers realised that it's an honour to represent your country. Good on Woy for not letting the tail wag the dog.

This.

Nevermind eh, let's all hate on Hodgson before the tounament has begun, because that's the fashionable thing to do.

He's been in the job three weeks, won two matches and hasn't conceded a goal.

But I don't like him because he didn't pick a couple of players who probably wouldn't have made a massive difference. That's the way to go.

Fully agree with this

Can we just have one decision made by a manager where people aren't looking for ulterior motives? Your comment may well be tongue in cheek. I don't think it is, but some people if not you, will definitely be thinking along these lines.

We've been crying out for some of the deadwood to be dropped. Thankfully Fat Frank can't go, (though Woy did pick him originally) and he's still picked Barry and Rooney (both of who I'd have left behind) and also to a lesser extent Sir Steven of Anfailed.

If there is a hidden agenda anywhere in this latest saga it'll be because the FA told Woy that both JT and Rio could not go, and Woy is just following orders. He could've and perhaps should've left JT behind, afterall its not Rio's fault if this is in fact the case. But again, the court case and judgement should've been made before the tournament.

I really hope Kelly scores a vital goal in this tournament. It may (may) shut some of the haters up

They do get paid I was led to believe.

And before St Steven of Anfailed was given the captaincy it was so obvious England friendlies were an inconvenience to him

All players get a match fee when playing for England.

The match fees paid to England's senior players - £750 for a defeat, £1,000 for a draw and £1,500 for a win

Most players donate theirs to charity though.

Sounds pretty much like the average city fan reaction to a new manager.

I'm tempted to lump on us to go out in the first round to be honest. Our luck has got to run out some time and we've got away with it at the last few tournaments when we've been awful.

We look a worse team than ever now, we've not prepared with purpose in the warm up games (the fact we've won both is irreleveant, grinding out victories and playing poorly is not what friendlies are for) and our squad is shit - our best player is out for 2 games and the rest is made up of players who've had terrible seasons and has-beens who've been festering in the England set-up for several years too long - with very few exceptions.

I wouldn't pay them in washers and if you thought things were embarrassing under McClaren and Capello I fear our standard of football will be hitting a new low in this tournament.

No, he pushed someone running at 3/4 pace into someone else running at 3/4 pace so they colided so he could score, it's extremly dangerous and can cause serious injury, as it hasn done in this instance. Cahill will be eating through a straw for the next few months and mill miss months of football, should get a 3 match ban for violent conduct.
