Premier League 2012/13

THey're still 100% right though. They're still good, but way below the levels in their prime, especially Gerrard.

Gerrard and Lampard still have that knack for scoring. They may be a bit slower, but are still very good players.

Gerrard, for instance, has recovered well from two rather abysmal years hampered by injury. If you look at his current total, nine league goals and twelve assists is a really good quota.

And Lampard has equalled his league goals total from two seasons ago after only 17 matches, compared to 24 in 2010/2011.

He also only needs six more goals to overtake Bobby Tambling as Chelsea's all-time leading goalscorer.

Calling them way below their prime is a bit over the top, really.

Scholes, however, I'm not sure of. Maybe I've always been underwhelmed, but he definitely seems to be past it (or maybe I just can't value his influence at Manchester United). Heck, he'll be 39 later this year. Kudos.

Hardly 100% right, Gerrard and Lampard have been fantastic this season for Liverpool and Chelsea. Steven Gerrard has played every minute of every Premier League game this season, not bad for someone who is 33 in May and this season except from a slow start he has been pretty close to Gerrard in his 'prime'.

Lampard is another, only played 17 League games but yet again he's made double figures and has put in some massive performances for Chelsea, look at the game they beat Everton away around Christmas time, bossed the game at Goodison.

Scholes maybe dwindling but last season he was fantastic when he came back in January to help United out, yeah he didn't win the League titile but he will this season.

You can't expect players at the ages of 32. 33 and 38 to still perform as if they were in their prime thats just ridiculous but they are still top players at top clubs, fact.

You could argue that Lampard's record has been inflated due to his penalties. I could rebut those figures with Clint Dempsey if need be. But I don't dispute their quality, just that they are not as good as they used to be. There's a reason Lampard was dropped under AVB. He was anonymous at best during his time there. Gerrard's performances that led Liverpool to two CL finals and several cup finals, have dwindled to sporadic memories of his great past. Like Beckham, he knows how to strike a ball. But he's been overrun sooo often this season in midfield, and he's been prone to a handful of costly errors in quite a few games this season alone. There are several reasons why Liverpool are so far adrift from the top 6 these days, and that's the simple fact that the teams around them have more quality in midfield. A midfield that Gerrard has been a part of the whole time.

Only a self-professed Liverpool fan would class them as a top club, but I'll let that one go. As I mentioned originally, I don't contest their quality, just that the criticism has been that they are (and have been) declining for a while.

To say Liverpool aren't a top club shows your ignorance to Football.

To say they're still a top club shows yours. They haven't won against top half opposition all season.

Maybe but the performance's against Man United (2nd half), Arsenal and Man City suggest otherwise, Liverpool are a top club.

By that logic, you could say Southampton are a MASSIVE club too. They've played well against Man City, Chelsea, Man United and others this season.

And Reading are a top club too then. Unlucky to lose late on at Man City, good point against Chelsea...

Anyone else think players take the whole not celebrating against old clubs thing a bit too far? I can completely understand it when it's a club legend who has moved on after years of service but when it is somebody who has just made a handful of appearances several years ago and has been at a number of other clubs since it seems a bit stupid.

He went through their academy so I thought it was fair enough that he doesn't celebrated. I think he would celebrate if he scored against Chelsea or Bolton though.

If Liverpool are a 'top' club to you, then I have to be Harry for a moment. They're not a 'top, top' club!

Arsenal have only beaten one team above them this season and are 6th in the League, they have only beaten Spurs above them, are they not a top club? Spurs have won 1 game this season against teams above them, are they not a top club? Chelsea haven't beat any of the teams above them..

Instead of reading what the London Press say to get your opinions why don't a lot you actually look at stats and facts before spouting rubbish.

Well no?

To me 'top club' implies a realistic chance of finishing top 4 on a regular basis.

On a different note..I can't believe Owen escaped unpunished for his blatant, if pathetic, punch at Arteta. If that was a more commonly vilified player, or even someone like Wayne Rooney, they would have thrown the book at him. The level of hypocrisy is the Premier League is astonishing.

Just saw a rumour that Chelsea are after Neymar.

Surely with Balotelli gone, Man City will want a flair hitman again. All of course if he Isnt a Barça player already

Niall Quinn is really, really fvcking annoying

Talks constant bullshit. And the way he's saying Gutierrez is winding me up. Keeps saying Gutherez.

awwww poor Niall.

He beats Davie Provan. I mean who even is that guy? He's unbearable and I've never heard of him in a playing sense. He's only on because they thought they needed to replace Andy Gray as the token jock.
