Wes Morgan wants Leicester City to be No.1 in the Championship charts.

"Absolutely," said club captain Morgan. "When it gets to May that's where I want us to be.

"I'll take runners-up as my second choice but first place is where you want to be.

"The manager has mentioned that our aim is promotion and I totally agree.

"There will be quite a lot of teams aiming for the same thing but we are are confident we can achieve it.

"It is a very competitive league. Teams are coming down from the Premier, and even those coming up will add to the mix.

"It should be good for the fans to watch."

Morgan, 28, joined City in January after 10 years at Nottingham Forest.

The centre-back has prospered in his new surroundings and he now proudly wears the City captain's armband.

"It is quite an honour at such a big club as Leicester," he said. "It was a surprise. The manager took me to one side and said he wanted me to be captain for the season.

"I had no hesitation in saying yes, I was really up for it."

Morgan is looking forward to the big kick-off against Peterborough at the King Power Stadium tomorrow.

"We've had a long, hard few weeks' training," he said.

"But we've been getting back into shape and we are now ready.

"It is always good to go into the new season with wins under your belt.

"Playing a Premier League team like Sunderland, and beating them, and then winning 4-0 at Torquay adds confidence and gives us a big boost.

"It is the first game of season and it is one that every player is up for.

"Adrenalin will be high and sometimes you don't know what the outcome will be.

"But we have to go into the game with confidence. We know our own ability and how good we are."

With Ireland international Sean St Ledger sidelined with injury, Morgan has been playing alongside 19-year-old Liam Moore, a product of the club's academy.

"He's very good and done very well so far," said Morgan.

"He's taken his chance when's come in and he had done a great job.

"He's got stature, pace and strength and is more than capable of doing the job for the club in that position.

"I expect big things from him this season and he's certainly a big prospect for the future," added Morgan.

Yeah I think if I had my choice of the places I'd choose first first. It's a close one but I'd go with second second, and maybe third third.

Can't disagree with that. Impeccable logic :D

When I saw the headline "I Want Us To Be Number 1 Side By May", I thought they'd asked Larry's opinion.

People should consult Larry more often, I'm sure he's got things he'd like to tell us.

What a scoop for the Mercury!

Wes comes across as thick but i think its just the questions he gets asked. He dosn't mind giving a boring captain obvious answer to a boring question.

Wes captains performance, he was great today...

Aye, they are looking to be a very good pairing indeed - Morgan looks more solid every time I see him, and Moore mirrors him brilliantly - so confident and capable for his age. Don't miss Mills' or Bamba's questionable performances at all!
