Babylon Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 Jones is a beast, he'd boss this level. Shame it seems nothing more than internet nonsense.
Guest Col city fan Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 Shame it seems nothing more than internet nonsense. Even that perhaps isn't a shame? One goal in 20 league appearances last season for Stoke doesn't imply that he's a 'goal machine'. Though I do accept he had a very nasty injury.

I don't think he ever really has been a goal machine to be honest, I've not had a proper look at the stats, but I think his best in this league is about 16 goals - not particularly better than anything we already have. If we're really going to bring in a striker, it'd have to be someone significantly better than what we already have, Someone who's going to bag a lot of goals, like Lambert did for Southamptonm, otherwise what's the point? May as well just stick with what we've got - Becks, Nugent and Vardy will get about 25-30 between them hopefully and that should be enough provided the rest of the team keeps chipping in with goals.

Who would have said Lambert would score that number of goals? He had been around the lower league for years.

I'm not sure there is anyone better available at the moment. We may as well stick with what we have, even if we loan out Beckford. Futacs, Waghorn and Schlupp provide decent cover anyway. And there was literally no point in signing Futacs if we were then going to go on to sign Kenwyne Jones for example. I think it's all academic anyway. Pearson has got his squad together and I reckon that's probably it.
Guest Col city fan Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 Who would have said Lambert would score that number of goals? He had been around the lower league for years. I reckon Lambert is a great example of a player in a lower league, doing extremely well ( didn't he score shitloads for Bristol Rovers?) who was then given his chance to develop his game in a better team. I'd rather sign a player like this, with a point to prove and moving upwards, than a player such as Jones, with little to prove and moving downwards. Aka Beckford. I made this point when I heard we had been linked with Beckford.

Though I do accept he had a very nasty injury. Bit harsh, he has come away consistently with a half decent return each year prior to that. (not had a chance to look what were in the league/cup). You look at what most of the strikers in the England team get in the premier and it's probably not a million miles away from the kind of returns he has got. 16 in 38 Championship 06/07 8 in 35 Premier 07/08 12 in 32 Premier 08/09 9 in 36 Premier 09/10 12 in 42 Premier 10/11 Anyway... I still think it's bull plop.

To be fair that's very true.. I meant 'per se', so to speak. For example, I wasn't excited when I heard we'd been linked with Ricardo Fuller in the summer.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 KJ would be a great signing. Have we been linked? I'd be surprised to be honest because I know Stoke have been pretty unhappy with Walters' performances of late and I can't see them putting all their eggs in Owen's holey basket
Brenfox Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 Possibly this is why we pulled the plug on the Beckford loan at the last minute. Stoke were finalising the Owen deal & Jones was coming here but Owen stalled the deal.

Owen is at Stoke now, so Kenwyne Jones I imagine would be available on loan now, but on our part we probably have to offload Beckford to bring Jones in which isn't looking likely according to his agent.
Bluetintedspecs Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 Can't see KJ being feasible and hope JB leaving is.
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 Beckford is better than Jones!! Next joke Possibly this is why we pulled the plug on the Beckford loan at the last minute. Stoke were finalising the Owen deal & Jones was coming here but Owen stalled the deal. We were after a Mansfield striker but couldn't get him in time
Albert Posted 13 September 2012 Posted 13 September 2012 The reason Beckford deal got pulled was because a deal for Billy Sharp fell through as he decided to go to Forest and link up with O'Drisscal who was his manager at Doncaster
Jace Posted 13 September 2012 Posted 13 September 2012 The reason Beckford deal got pulled was because a deal for Billy Sharp fell through as he decided to go to Forest and link up with O'Drisscal who was his manager at Doncaster Where did you hear this?
Ric Flair Posted 13 September 2012 Posted 13 September 2012 The reason Beckford deal got pulled was because a deal for Billy Sharp fell through as he decided to go to Forest and link up with O'Drisscal who was his manager at Doncaster I've heard different, as Sharp signed for Forest earlier in the day. This was pulled with minutes to spare because Harry Kane turned us down to go to Norwich.
Poakey Posted 13 September 2012 Posted 13 September 2012 Ian Stringer â€@StringerSport Pearson on Beckford "I've had a chat with Jermaine and know that while he's here he'll play for us, if things change they change"
Happy Fox Posted 13 September 2012 Posted 13 September 2012 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19587188?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson says the club will not be forced to off-load striker Jermaine Beckford. Beckford, 28, almost joined Huddersfield on transfer deadline daybefore the Foxes decided against the move late on. "While he's here he'll play for us," he told BBC Radio Leicester. "If we feel that deals are there to be done that suit us then fine but we won't be press-ganged into deals that aren't right for us." He added: "I want my players to be committed to our cause and that is getting us out of this division."
Corky Posted 13 September 2012 Posted 13 September 2012 What shirt is he wearing now bruv? Welcome back Jermaine.
dynamark Posted 13 September 2012 Posted 13 September 2012 Which way I wonder ? I would hope its happening but they need to do some serious work on how to play Beckford when he is on from both he and the team perspective.

This was pulled with minutes to spare because Harry Kane turned us down to go to Norwich. Yeah the main target of the day was Billy Sharp...that's why they originally agreed the deal with Huddersfield. When Sharp moved to Forest they went in for Kane who then went to Norwich so they pulled the deal. Connor Wickham was also targeted but O'Neil wouldn't let him go until the Fletcher deal was done. Expect us to now go back in for him on loan. If I hear anything more I'll let u know
RonnieTodger Posted 13 September 2012 Posted 13 September 2012 http://www.bbc.co.uk...otball/19587188 Pearson content to keep Beckford. Doesn't clear up too much, looking at his quotes.
