Win, lose or draw there is something so uniquely depressing about watching England play at Wembley. I think it's a combination of the style of football, the awful atmosphere, that fcking band, the players, the commentators, the fact they're often on ITV, those stupid empty corporate seats, that band, the fact I'm missing some far more entertaining on TV like Don't Tell The Bride, the chants, the long balls and that annoying, mind numbing cvnting band.

I think the source of most of those ills can be attributed to the simple fact that us English cannot play football, the rest naturally follows suit. Your also right about the "band" If they weren't bafflingly supported by the red-tops i think they'd have been banned a long time ago. They are atmosphere killers, not creators.

Overall though dreadful performance from England tonight and Ukraine will be kicking themselves as every time they came at us they looked like scoring, thank **** their manager insisted on keeping 11 men behind the ball the majority of the game.

At least we had the olympians and paralympians to give us something to cheer about.

If I were ever to watch England, unlikely as I haven't really cared about international football for ages, it'd definitely be away from home.

A more old-school atmosphere, a chance to visit a completely new city and experience a different culture, less corporate nonsense and hopefully less deluded expectancy from surrounding supporters. The only time I'd want to watch a game at Wembley now is if City were playing, whereas I'd happily jump in a time machine and watch a Third Division play-off final at the old Wembley.

The 2000 Worthington Cup Final was an immense experience in terms of the atmosphere, I strongly doubt it'll even come close to being matched the next time we get to visit Wembley. I'd go to a game we were playing at Wembley for certain, but I wouldn't expect a great deal in terms of standing and singing. I've never been but would be amazed if overpriced tickets, ridiculous stewarding, overpriced drinks, crap food, intrusive piped music and a flat, family orientated, tannoy dominated ambience didn't sum it up.

Like everything English football has become on steroids. Desperately sad.

We were terrible tonight, utterly devoid of anything. Bar the chances he squandered I actually thought Cleverley looked sharp, as did Milner. Lampard and Gerrard can't play together against a team of any discernable quality so why Roy's even considered persisting with them as a pair is beyond me. To compound my misery I was going to whack a tenner on Konoplyanka FGS but was running late for the pub. Least we didn't lose, I suppose.

To be fair, that was a sensational goal. I watched the game at home and, as a neutral, even I stood up from my couch and said, "Wow."

On another topic, I agree, the England Band has become embarrassing... but for large portions of this game, it sounded like they were the only ones making noise.

I kind of remember the English never having a problem singing songs themselves, and the England band pretty much playing along to whatever the drunken mob was singing (unless I'm in early stages of Alzheimer's)... when they try to start songs now, it sounds almost pathetic.

P.S. At least the U.S. kind of got their WCQ campaign back on track tonight.
