I think he'd be devastating against such a poor side. Still plenty of goals in the team though.

Williams has been crap for club and country lately though so the timing seems a bit strange. Maybe trying to reinvigorate him I suppose. I would have gone with Joe Hart - best in goalie in the world, bang in form and a decent guy to boot. Bang in form? I know he played well against Dortmund but just 1 clean sheet all season. San Marino's all time international record: 112 1 4 107 19 467 −447 1% P W D L F A GD W% Kind of makes me hope we lose purely for comedy value! Then again I'm one of Rooney's biggest fans so I'd really like to see him bag 4 or 5 and lead us to an easy win. Thought he might play Defoe. I think he'd be devastating against such a poor side. RobHawk Posted 12 October 2012 Posted 12 October 2012 Personally don't rate Carrick! Wouldn't have him in there personally! Rooney doesn't do the business at international level and we have looked a better team overall without him! Should be interesting to see how the team plays!

Played 10 W 0 D 0 L10 F 0 A 53 Pts 0 They conceded 8 against Finland and Hungary and lost 11-0 to the Netherlands. It's fair to say they'll be more out of their depth than Stuart Lubbock tonight. England need to score at least six tonight; not for willy waving, but because most other teams will demolish San Marino by ridiculous amounts and we don't want to come up short on goal difference. Australia show the way in thrashing minnows of course.

There is an argument for seeded rounds, especially with how many new nations have joined UEFA over the last 20 years, but with how few group stage matches still get played in our qualifying system I still don't see much point in it.
