Filthy Foxes Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 What is the best non vegetarian restaurant in leicester city centre?
FoxesAreBlue Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 San Carlos, The Case or 1578 (or whatever it's called) Oh wait INDIAN restaurant?? God knows, ignore my post.
MPH Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 The Grand Dubar top of Melton Rd is my favorite... probably not the cheapest but hey ho.....
Webbo Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 So long since I've had a curry in the city I wouldn't know. The Taraj Palace is the best Indian in Syston.
Houdini Logic Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 There's already a thread on this, but Mem Saab is probably my new favourite.
Babylon Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 Go to Cuisine of India in Wigston, without doubt THE best in Leicester. I have pretty much tried the lot (I like curry) and nothing is close to what I've had there. www.cuisineofindia.co.uk/
stix Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 Go to Cuisine of India in Wigston, without doubt THE best in Leicester. I have pretty much tried the lot (I like curry) and nothing is close to what I've had there. www.cuisineofindia.co.uk/ Have you been to their other one at Arnesby? Little India maybe? Also of a very high quality. Cuisine of india is around 90 seconds walking distance from where im living at the moment. My stomach cries out for it each time i drive/walk past it & yet i haven't had a curry from there in months.
Unabomber Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 I know it's not the centre or even Leicester for that matter but The Cinnamon Tree in Ellistown is the best I have been to, absolutely amazing!
Libertine Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 Not that I go to many but Memsaab is great. Gave me a free birthday dessert too.
Captain... Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 Last curry I had in the centre was Chutney Ivy, very good, do good set menus, Shimla pinks was always decent. Edit: Just had a quick search of Leicester's best curry, Chutney Ivy was top: http://www.greatfoodmag.co.uk/our-choice-of-must-try-local-curry-houses/
vandamman Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 Paddy Martens is great, however, its on Catherine Street, so not strictly speaking in the city centre but not far, a lot of tigers fans go there after the game. Little further a field as mentioned above Grand Durbar is also very good, great food and service.
danny. Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 Chutney Ivy is the best I have been to. Although - if you have the pre/post theatre menu, it's absolute garbage, so avoid at all costs. But the a la carte stuff is amazing. Mem Saab is also very good. In the Narborough Road area Dhaka Deli is very good also, although I wouldn't say in the same league as the above two, but still very nice.
Guest Col city fan Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 The Chamelee in Blaby is very very nice. Their Chicken tikka vindaloo is exquisite. Nice and fiery but not ridiculously hot.
Phube Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 Go to Cuisine of India in Wigston, without doubt THE best in Leicester. I have pretty much tried the lot (I like curry) and nothing is close to what I've had there. www.cuisineofindia.co.uk/ I concur!
Trav Le Bleu Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 I concur! Can I be the fourth to add my recommendations.
Soar Fox Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 Little India in Arnesby is better tha cuisine of India in my opinion. Being half Indian I don't really go to a lot of indian restaraunts as I don't find them half as tasty as my dads homemade one's.
notnow john Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 The Tiffin ,London road is my favourite, award winning jalfrezi. Indian chef and author Madur Jaffrey claims that Leicester have the best Indian restaurants in the country at the moment.
foz.foz Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 Not quite City center but Blue Peter just off Belgrave gate. Cheap, Fresh food and a hidden gem. Kicks the other indians around there into last week. Can't speak highly enough of the place. then in no particular order. Feast of india. Gran Dubar, Spice Cube (Mountsorrel)
Phube Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 Just listening to my Wife watching Saturday Kitchen with James Martin... and Madhur Jeffrey legendary Indian cook is asked where's the best place for a curry in the UK... the answer: Leicester! In your face Birmingham!
Soar Fox Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 Top of St Saviours road there's a takeaway that I go too. A whole tandoori chicken, chips and a nan bread £5.50. Anyone who lives round there I definitely recommend trying it.

fox123 Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 Blue Peter - Melton Road Taj - Stoney Stanton Cuisine of India - Wigston Swatlands - Oadby (by far my favourite)
