Vacamion Posted 21 April 2013 Posted 21 April 2013 So, who is going up? Greenock Morton or Partick Thistle? It's tighter than a gnat's hoo-haa at the top of the division. My money's on the Jags, flying high under new boss and club stalwart Alan Archibald. Congratulations to Partick Thistle (the Jags) on their promotion to the top flight. They are my Scottish team and with a young, eager squad and a rookie manager, there are hopes that they can stay up next year.
Leicesterpool Posted 21 April 2013 Posted 21 April 2013 I've just heard Neil Lennon's speech, it sounded like to me it was a farewell speech. Didn't even say see you all next season.
Vacamion Posted 21 April 2013 Posted 21 April 2013 Just saw this on the BBC. It doesn't really equate to the MK Dons situation, because they were transplanted to Cumbernauld and it never really worked out for them. Clyde approve move to East Kilbride and name change Clyde's owners have voted to approve the club moving to East Kilbride and rename it EK Clyde. The club, formerly based in Glasgow, has played in Cumbernauld since 1994. However, in 2010, the club announced its intention to quit the town's Broadwood Stadium. "We are convinced that relocating to East Kilbride and working with the East Kilbride Community Trust is an excellent opportunity for the club," said a club statement. Clyde fans own 50% of the club through a supporters' trust. The move to the South Lanarkshire new town was approved by 93% of those who voted at an extraordinary general meeting. In a second vote 84% voted to approve the name change.
Guest MattP Posted 27 April 2013 Posted 27 April 2013 Fair play to the rest of the SPL http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11787/8670713/Neil-Lennon-shocked-no-Celtic-players-on-PFA-Scotland-Player-of-the-Year-short-list Oh give me a home!
Corky Posted 27 April 2013 Posted 27 April 2013 I can see why they haven't done it, when you see clubs like Inverness and Ross County comfortably outperforming bigger clubs in Aberdeen, Hibs and Hearts, which surely is a better achievement than Celtic winning it. But you'd think at least one Celtic player would be listed.
Leicesterpool Posted 3 May 2013 Posted 3 May 2013 Just gets worse for scottish football! Ten clubs planning to quit the scottish league! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22404102

Vacamion Posted 6 May 2013 Posted 6 May 2013 Quite a few Celtic fans were upset that this dude won Player of the Year up here. Some way to celebrate! Michael Higdon arrested after winning player of the year Higdon picked up the player of the year award at a ceremony at Glasgow's Hilton hotel on Sunday Motherwell striker Michael Higdon has been arrested over an alleged assault hours after being crowned Scotland's Player of the Year. The 29-year-old was held after a disturbance at the Corinthian nightclub in Glasgow in the early hours. BBC Scotland understands Higdon was released from police custody at 09:00. He was named Professional Footballers' Association Scotland Player of the Year at a ceremony on Sunday night. Higdon is the Scottish Premier League's top scorer this season, having netted 26 league goals for Motherwell. The club said it was aware of the situation. A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "A 29-year-old man is the subject of a report to the procurator fiscal in connection with an alleged assault at a nightclub in Ingram Street in Glasgow at 1.25am today." Liverpool-born Higdon had been due to meet journalists for a media conference at 08:30 on Monday, but the event was cancelled. He won the award voted for by his peers ahead of Leigh Griffiths of Hibernian, Andrew Shinnie of Inverness and Aberdeen forward Niall McGinn. Higdon has described this season as the "best of his career" and credited his success to "confidence, playing in a good team and having a manager who believes in me". He began his career at Crewe before moving to Scotland to sign for Falkirk in 2007. After two years with the Bairns, he joined St Mirren before leaving for Motherwell in 2011.
Fox in the North Posted 7 May 2013 Posted 7 May 2013 Well they seem to have finally sorted something out! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22438732 SPL agree league reform package Scottish Premier League clubs have unanimously agreed on a package of measures that would deliver a merged league body in time for next season. The single governing organisation would oversee the 12-10-10-10 divisional structure that is presently in place. But there would be greater financial redistribution to the second tier. The SPL also want to introduce play-offs involving the team finishing 11th and teams second, third and fourth in the division below. The proposals include a "pyramid for the entire game", which would allow access to the senior ranks to clubs currently operating outside the senior level. A statement from the top flight clubs says: "The SPL looks forward to working with the Scottish FA and Scottish Football League [sFL] to deliver vibrant change for the game as a whole." SPL chairman Ralph Topping said: "I am pleased that SPL clubs have today agreed on a way forward for the game in this country. "We have tremendous sympathy with the SFL1 clubs and their plight and with their shared ambition for a 42-club solution. "Much work needs to be done in a short space of time to achieve our objective of a single merged league this summer. But, where there is a will, there is a way. The time for action is now." SPL clubs will gather again this month to formally vote on the matter. The 30 clubs in the SFL's three divisions would then need to approve the plans.
