Callabinho Posted 5 January 2013 Posted 5 January 2013 If we can extend keane's loan for the season, do we really need him?
Bert Posted 5 January 2013 Posted 5 January 2013 Personally think we're more likely to sign him in the summer after hearing what C-Man had to say.

Bert Posted 5 January 2013 Posted 5 January 2013 Care to divulge please? He mentioned something earlier on in the thread, the rest isn't my news to tell really. Basically though, Mr Oyston was trying to generate interest in Baptiste as he wants to cash in on him before he leaves on a free.
inckley fox Posted 5 January 2013 Posted 5 January 2013 If Keane's loan has only been extended to the end of January, but we are allowed to play him in the Cup, might this indicate that we have first refusal on a permanent transfer at the end of the month?

Makes no sense as you alluded to to bid now when we can get him as a free agent in the summer, anyway with Whitbread and St Ledger coming back soon we will be fine.

They're waiting to see the extent of injuries. United have high hopes for Keane, won't be sold, certainly not this season. Oh right, so it seems he wants money! RizLCFC Posted 5 January 2013 Posted 5 January 2013 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2257710/Blackpool-want-6m-Tom-Ince.html I know it's the Daily Mail, they're saying Blackpool want £2million for Baptiste, that Oyston is a greedy ****, I think it's too much for him, rather have Keane on loan for the rest of the season.

Don't think Nige would ever pay that. Oyston loses out if nobody purchases Baptiste in this transfer window. This transfer will go on until near the end of the transfer window me thinks.
thatabsolutedon Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 tbh i think we need to be looking at a quality winger, added some extra strength to our central midfield and like some of you say, add a big strong physical defensive midfielder as thats what we seem to be lacking, someone who will graft and win back possession in those places where the opposition looks dangerous, especially if we cant secure an end of season loan of Keane then play him and the consistantly good Wes Morgan as our two big strong and composed centre backs

I don't think it's something we necessarily need, but a player of this sort (Trotter) would certainly be a good signing. 4 centre mids for 2 places again is good competition and good depth

Normally I'd say 'Football club chairman in 'wanting to make money for his football club' shocker', but this Oyston character really does seem a crook. Surely their ground is so shit because he's embezzling the funds or something?
Out Foxed Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 especially if we cant secure an end of season loan of Keane then play him and the consistantly good Wes Morgan as our two big strong and composed centre backs i thought we had already
dpjfox Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 yep Oysten is a crook, disliked by all their fans got £95mill for the one good season theyve had in 50 years gave 20mill to his dad upon his jail release Stll refusing to pay 1.5 mill on a player or more than 15k/week wages or for that matter 100k to sort out the "cabage patch pitch"

There is no way they will get that for him if his contract is up in the summer. It's a similar situation to what Wes was in last January. I expect we will pay a similar fee, if we do end up signing him that is.
Grewks Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 I think this rumour about oyston and baptiste could be true. Maybe NP extended the loan of keane to try and push the hand of blackpool, which has yet to work. But Keane has impressed, so IMO we dont need baptiste anymore, he would not be happy to be a squad player, move on.

I see your point, but Keane is not our player, and it doesn't look at the moment that Man Utd would be willing to sell him. Baptiste would be ours, and the more players that are actually ours that we have in our squad, the better IMO.

I think there are better players than baptiste, which we could sign at the end of the season. If Bruce continues to favour his son at hull, as well as play faye, then hobbs or chester will eventually become available, probably at the end of the season. Furthermore, we dont need 4 permanent center backs on the books, SSL and whitbread will return, so just extending keane's loan who is already settled here would be the best option.

Perhaps there will be better players available at the end of the season. But we have a good chance of promotion this season. I would prefer we strengthened now if possible. I'm not saying Keane is a bad option. I'll be more than happy if he extends until the end of the season. But that said, I would still prefer us to sign our own players than rely on loans. Especially ones that look like they can never be made permanent. We might not need 4 permanent centre backs, especially if we have a loan one as well. But I don't think it would do us too much harm to have 4 permanent ones. I guess we will have to agree to disagree on that.
Mack Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 If anything is certain it's that Oyston is a tight greedy so and so. And he wont let anyone go unless he feels his boots have been filled to his satisfaction. Adam suffered from that when he left for Victimpool, and Hollowords got out of there because of the poor contact terms he was on.
Carl the Llama Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 Would Baptiste be better than Morgan or SSL or Whitbread? I don't think so. Would he be happy to sit on the bench behind these 3 when they're fit? See previous answer. I have serious reservations about this deal if indeed it is one and it does go through - wouldn't mind it if he arrives and proves me wrong of course!
Happy Fox Posted 6 January 2013 Author Posted 6 January 2013 I think priority is to sign Trotter and another winger, we don't need a CB.

I seem to remember many questioning whether Morgan was any better than what we had - how wrong those views were. I have been a little disappointed with Whitbread. Supposedly a decent defender in the Prem, he has struggled to show that kind of quality, whilst I fear St Ledger could be out for the season. That leaves Moore and Keane (for another month). I think Baptiste, along with Trotter and Stewart would give us an extremely competitive squad.

You are missing the point that he can play at both full back positions and even as a defensive midfielder if required. Great addition especially in the face of pointless trips to Huddersfield where injury and fatigue could come into play.

To be fair, I don't think that Whitbread has been fit since being with us. He's only ever been a 20-25 game a season player due to fitness issues. I think he would be a top defender otherwise.
