jonthefox Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 I can't find the holiday thread mods. Feel free to merge. So i want to take the kids to Orlando this year. Has anyone been ?. Any hotel, theme park recommendations or any other tips would be good. thanks.
Guest MattP Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 Miami is nice. So is Fort Lauderdale. Not been to Orlando. Just make sure you use this line when you get back.
goose2010 Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 regarding theme parks depends on their age, stop anywhere on international drive you cant go wrong.
Monk Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 Call me a cynic but I hate Florida. The whole place is plastic - never understood the appeal.
The People's Hero Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 I similarly don't like it. But I am quite a grumpy man.
Itsthejoeker Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 Try stay in a villa. As said above, theme parks depend on their age.
purpleronnie Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 Call me a cynic but I hate Florida. The whole place is plastic - never understood the appeal. Me neither but its for the kids.

Any hotel, theme park recommendations or any other tips would be good. thanks. I went 2 years ago, stayed in a villa an got a hire car which is really good. If you go August it is really fvcking hot, most places have air conditioning and machines that spray out droplets of cold water. I'd recommend Universal Studios and Discovery Cove. Discovery cove is expensive although it is probably the best place I've ever been, you basically get there, pick up a snorkel and mask and do what you want for a day, drinks and food are free. You have loads of artificial beaches where you can sunbathe or go snorkelling in the sea, where there are sharks and rays and other fish swimming with you. There's also a meandering river where you can snorkel through which is good. If you want you can swim with dolphins too.
Bayfox Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 If your planning to do the theme parks, only go for a week, people go for 2 expecting there to be loads to do, we did this the 1st time we went, but after a week you've A done most of it and are just going round again for the sake of it, B fed up of the whole thing and need a break. Our best trips over there as kids involved 1 week in orlando then a week down on the gulf of mexico coast, somewhere like clearwater is nice. In orlando stay on international drive if you can, people go to kissimmee, but I can't say I liked it as much.
Danno Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 Yeah adding to what Bayfox said I went for 2 weeks, 1 in Orlando, 6 days in Naples which is a nice town where we had a villa 30 seconds away from the beach. Then spent a day in Miami.
goose2010 Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 we did two weeks, one on international drive one in clear water,

Adster Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 Been five times. And loved every single trip there and I would quite happily jump at the chance to go again. We stayed in my uncles Villa in Kissimee that he owns. It's amazing, I'm 18 and I still love visiting Disney and doing the rounds around places such as Sea World and Busch Gardens, Wet 'N Wild and Blizzard Beach. It's usually an expensive holiday, but it's absolutely 100% worth it.
Monk Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 It's probably cheaper to take the whole family on safari, and that would be jaw droppingly impressive for the kids.
Smudge Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 Call me a cynic but I hate Florida. The whole place is plastic - never understood the appeal. Key West is a fun place and the pan handle is a quieter beach destination.
Fox92 Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 Been to Orlando, Florida twice and loved it. I just love America, I think I could live there. Everyone seems nice to talk to, quite welcoming, some of the food outlets are fantastic. Theme parks are all good, everyone just turns into a big kid, myself included. I really liked Kennedy Space Centre. Really interesting like. But overall, loved it. Really want to visit New York as well, but my two visits to America have both been amazing, just like my favourite holiday's ever.
Webbo Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 If your kids are older than 9 they'll probably prefer Universal studio to Disney land, having said that it's still worth seeing. Kennedy Space centre is a brilliant day out. You'll pick up coupon books everywhere that have genuine money off offers on a lot of the attraction. 1 of best things for me was being able to eat like a pig everyday for next to nothing.

Adster Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 The Kennedy Space Centre is marvellous. Being a big kid myself I love all the Disney parks. Disney Quest is really fun, three complete floors of arcade-style games! Every time I've went we've been to Arabian Knights that was Kissimee, was an absolutely class evening and its great entertainment.
Ross-Kemp Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 I went with my other half in July for 2 weeks. We stayed in lake buena vista village & spa resort. It's about a 10 minute drive from Disney and international drive. The hotel and staff were superb, would definily recomend it and it wasn't too expensive either. I wouldn't ever go back in July. The weather was mid 30s for the entire two weeks but it was very stop start because of thunder and lightening. At least once a day the parks would grind to a halt due to inclement weather. It's also the time of year when the South American school children visit. Now I expected it to be busy, but there were groups of 200-300 walking round, pushing for food, pushing in the queues and generally being nuisances ! My god there were thousands of them. In terms of parks, I paid £1200 and that got us both into every park (except wet and wild which quite frankly in glad we didn't as its falling down). We also swam with the dolphins at Discovery cove (all food and drink there is free, it was superb), All the parks are different and each one has a firework display at the end of the night (between 9pm and 10:30pm) the best ones were probably Epcot and magic kingdom for the displays. All in all it cost me around £6000, but we spent a hell of a lot on shopping (massive outlet store 5 minutes away from the hotel we stayed in and a slightly smaller outlet stores in the grounds of the hotels). I'm going to go back in 2014 but I'm going to go in September, my partner has been 3 times now, twice in September and she said its still nice and hot and the parks are empty. I'd you've got any other questions drop me a , I'm happy to help.

A place no-one ever mentions is the North Mid-West, Colorado, Utah, Idaho and Wyoming are fantastic places if you like beautiful scenery, loads of wild life and friendly people. A lot of Indian culture out there too.
Monk Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 All in all it cost me around £6000 Jesus! I had a one month honeymoon in 5 star hotels & top restaurants in Asia (Bali,Singapore,Malaysia) including flights food and excursions for less than that! Still never ceases to amaze me how people are happy to break the bank for a fake made up place.
Monk Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 I've got nothing against visiting the states - have done loads of trips there and have been to around 35 states. There's loads and loads to see, Florida, Vegas and LA are bottom of the list for me though.
