marbelladave Posted 16 January 2013 Posted 16 January 2013 Only my opinion but if they try to take us on in a game of passing football, they're going to lose so it wouldn't surprise me if they employed the same tactics as last year. Stop us playing by any means necessary (ouch) and try to nick a goal or two. A draw wouldn't surprise me in the slightest I have no doubt that Mowbray will have a plan and that they will make it as tough as possible, but these are the kind of games that sort out the real promotion candidates from the rest. As a one off, maybe a draw would not be that bad, but under the circumstances we really need to win this. The way our results have gone this season, the best way to do this is to play our natural game and get after them, we are, by and large, rubbish when we try and contain. Our defence is the meanest in the league, back ourselves to score more than them.....

The problem is there will be an opponent who might not allow us to 'play our natural game'. Football would be easy if there was no opposition! I think this will be a grind it out result, with Borough sitting in their half and hitting on the counter. It's up to us to break them down. I think we will but I'm expecting a scrappy, chess-like game that could be closer than many think.
Out Foxed Posted 16 January 2013 Posted 16 January 2013 McEachran has been reassured to discover that Mowbray is a far from a prophet in the Championship wilderness. "A few teams in this division play really good passing football," he says. "I've been very impressed with Derby and Blackpool. I like Brighton and Watford, too, but you'd expect that sort of style when they're managed by two former Chelsea players in [Gus] Poyet and Zola." going to have to show him what's up on friday.
Happy Fox Posted 16 January 2013 Posted 16 January 2013 If McEachran thinks we play hoofball he is in for a surprise!

Have to agree with you, will never forget watching the Watford away game when we packed the midfield and looked clueless! Now with Woods as focal point and a genuine dual threat with the likes of Nugent, Knockaert and Marshall running off him. Great chance to really see how far we have progressed throughout the team!
marbelladave Posted 16 January 2013 Posted 16 January 2013 Again Dave, you are talking about 'playing our natural game'.. I think we will but I'm expecting a scrappy, chess-like game that could be closer than many think. Sorry Col, but you are simply not getting it...... We have tried to 'grind out a result' by setting up conservatively against tough opposition, Hull, Watford, Millwall, Leeds away and Palace at home and have managed just one point...... At no point in those games did we even try and get after the opposition with our 'natural' aggressive passing game, with our fullbacks restrained and our midfield sat deep we had no attacking options 'in transition', the long ball often being our only out. This is not some airy fairy philosophical commitment to attacking football, it is deeply pragmatic, we are a far better side when we get after the opposition, much better than when we react to them and try to contain. Even games we lost early season were games that, we were in with a decent chance of winning. As we developed our play, introducing Knockaert and later Waghorn, we were good enough to get to the top of the league. It was only then that we started to play more conservatively, as if we were trying to defend our position, resulting in a poor run and it has taken time to regain our confidence, let's not lose that by going back on the defensive......
Guest foxestalkisfullofidiots Posted 16 January 2013 Posted 16 January 2013 Great. Thankfully Knocky was born in Roubix which is colder than Leicester at the moinute, he'll be used to freezing his nuts off and still doing mad skills. Is this where the cube comes from too?

However, i do think we will set up a little bit more defensive on Friday, to try and stop the rot. Personel depends on whether Mceachran and others are fit.

We know you've got quite a few problems with injuries and the fact that you're playing us at the KP is what makes me think you will set out to be more defensive, play for a draw and try to nick a win, probably from a set piece, which is still a weakness in our defending. We have got a lot better at it though. If you come and let us play, you could be in big trouble
whoareyaaa Posted 16 January 2013 Posted 16 January 2013 Massive game this, 3 points are needed if we want to put pressure on the teams around us and get into the top 2.
Babylon Posted 16 January 2013 Posted 16 January 2013 Massive game this Don't say that, Spherical will worry about the pressure you are putting on the players.
whoareyaaa Posted 16 January 2013 Posted 16 January 2013 Don't say that, Spherical will worry about the pressure you are putting on the players. . I think the players will be able to cope with the pressure, its not like its the FA cup final.
davieG Posted 16 January 2013 Posted 16 January 2013 Knockaert should be available although some illness circulating down there. http://www.lcfc.com/...-2-602537.aspx? City manager Nigel Pearson expects to have Anthony Knockaert available for Friday night’s clash with promotion rivals Middlesbrough at King Power Stadium. The France Under-21 international limped out of last Saturday’s win at Bristol City after aggravating a knock he picked up in training. Knockaert had also been suffering from illness in the build-up to the 4-0 win at Ashton Gate, but Pearson expects his wing wizard to recover in time to feature in Friday’s top-of-the-table clash in the npower Championship. “He had a knock in training prior to the game and got a knock in the same place so it was an easy decision to replace him,†said Pearson of Knockaert’s weekend withdrawal. “He was a bit ill on Saturday morning as well and has suffered a bit since, but it (his substitution) has given him a bit more time to recover and he should be OK for Friday. “There’s a bit of illness among players and staff alike, but everyone’s going through that at the moment. We’ll manage it ok.†City are still likely to be without defenders Sean St. Ledger (hamstring) and Zak Whitbread (calf) for the game, although striker Jamie Vardy is back in contention after recovering from a heel injury. Friday night’s game at King Power Stadium kicks off at 7.45pm. Supporters purchasing tickets before 6pm on Thursday can get a match ticket plus a pie and a pint for just £20! MC Prussian Posted 17 January 2013 Posted 17 January 2013 On a sidenote, Middlesbrough's second goalkeeper used to play for my local team up until a few weeks ago.
Guest Bilo Posted 17 January 2013 Posted 17 January 2013 Fluidity in our playing style is the key to winning on Friday and indeed in most games this season. We look a far better side when we play passing, attacking football than trying to contain the opposition; but I'm sure NP knows this already. They're in poor form, struggling with injuries and have a poor record here but they deserve to be respected as they're a very capable side. It'll be a tough game but on the respective form of the two sides I have to go for a home win. 2-1 City.
Lcfc Jordan Posted 17 January 2013 Posted 17 January 2013 Boro in shaky form, Leicester in great form you would think there is only going to be one result
MrSpaM Posted 17 January 2013 Posted 17 January 2013 Some of the comments theyve made on the boro forum are priceless. They honestly think big Wes is the only decent player we have at the club Anybody would think we had the worst defence in the league the way they are going on.
lcfcdamo Posted 17 January 2013 Posted 17 January 2013 as anyone saw there site they are slagging us off saying they have great away support and they are the better footballing side
Lobsterboyuk Posted 17 January 2013 Posted 17 January 2013 Mowbray is a quality manager IMO and they have quality in their ranks. But their injury list obviously works in our favour and if we play the high tempo pressing game that we're capable of then we should win and continue staking our claim for an auto spot. Would be good for my blood pressure if we can start showing the league we are the obvious contenders for second (maybe first if Cardiff drop off a cliff ) and keep the good run going, rather than scrapping as a "thereabouts" team relying on other results etc...
Les-TA-Jon Posted 17 January 2013 Posted 17 January 2013 Anyone seen the highlights from their game vs Watford? Boro's CB and captain - Rhys Williams looked lightweight and pretty clueless - also put it on a plate for Watford's striker. I think Nugent and Wood have a good chance at getting at their defence.
AyewJoking Posted 17 January 2013 Posted 17 January 2013 I think we should get Drinkwater to man mark Juninho, he's a slippery little bastard.
foxfanazer Posted 17 January 2013 Posted 17 January 2013 According to some of their fans Mowbray will be putting out a defensive side to play for a draw. Their only hope is on the counter attack. Have we got the creativity and firepower to break down teams like this now? I think so
Captain... Posted 17 January 2013 Posted 17 January 2013 Working in Alfreton today, just started snowing, how is it looking down Leicester? Edit:Ignore this just found the Boro/weather thread. Edit: The weather will play into their hands they are from the frozen north, close to the wall beyond which the wildlings dwell.
