Mark_w Posted 20 January 2013 Share Posted 20 January 2013 And could anyone find out how many points teams who got promoted had at this stage? 2011/2012: West Ham, 1st, 53 points - Southampton, 2nd, 51 Points - Reading, 7th, 45 Points. 2010/2011: Queens Park Rangers, 1st, 53 Points - Norwich, 2nd, 48 Points - Swansea, 4th, 47 Points. 2009/2010: Newcastle, 1st, 59 Points - West Brom, 2nd, 53 Points - Blackpool, 7th, 40 Points. 2008/2009: Wolves, 1st, 59 Points - Birmingham, 3rd, 52 Points - Burnley, 7th, 43 Points. 2007/2008: West Brom, 1st, 51 Points - Stoke, 4th, 47 Points - Hull, 12th, 38 Points. 2006/2007: Birmingham, 1st, 53 Points - Derby, 2nd, 53 Points - Sunderland, 9th, 43 Points. 2005/2006: Reading, 1st, 69 Points - Sheffield United, 2nd, 62 Points - Watford, 4th, 46 Points. 2004/2005: Wigan, 2nd, 53 Points - Sunderland, 3rd, 50 Points - West Ham, 6th, 45 Points. 2003/2004: Norwich, 1st, 53 Points - West Brom, 2nd, 51 Points - Crystal Palace, 15th, 35 Points. 2002/2003: Portsmouth, 1st, 59 Points - Leicester, 2nd, 55 Points - Wolves, 8th, 42 Points. Not saying that all of those were after 28 games for every team but it's as close as I could find. The side second at this point have only failed to gain promotion in some way, shape or form, twice in the last 10 years.
Deucalion Posted 20 January 2013 Share Posted 20 January 2013 Another way to look at it is we just have to equal Hull's points total until the end of the season. We can afford to collect 1 point less than Watford, 2 points less than Crystal Palace and 3 points less than Middlesboro. Looking at it like this, second place is ours to lose! Trav Le Bleu Posted 20 January 2013 Share Posted 20 January 2013 We're not competing against teams from past seasons, we're competing now. So that's the only tally that counts. The comparision is interesting, but I shouldn't take too much encouragement or become too discouraged by it.
Bilo Posted 20 January 2013 Share Posted 20 January 2013 Wolves (H) 3pts - Shouldn't present too much of a challenge to a team chasing promotion. (53) Peterborough (A) 3pts - We've been ruthless with struggling teams this season, this should continue. (56) Cardiff (A) 1pt - Completely outplayed them at our place and we now have more of a clinical edge up front. They're extremely solid at home though. (57) Blackburn (H) 3pt - The club's a circus and aren't struggling for no reason. (60) Charlton (H) 1pt - Charlton are excellent on the road and Powell will want a result here. (61) Blackpool (A) 3pts - On the evidence of last night, Blackpool are relegation candidates next season. The rot has already started. (64) Ipswich (A) 0pts - A completely different side now McCarthy has them sorted out. Portman Road never easy to visit. (64) Leeds (H) 1pt - The Warnock revolution hasn't been all that but Leeds should still be respected. (65) Sheffield Weds (H) 1pt - They've improved of late and that win at Hull showed they're better than they were in November. (66) Derby (A) 3pts - Good in spells at our place and a 4-1 win flattered us but they've melted away into mid-table and our recent record against them is outstanding. (69) Millwall (H) 1pt - They'll desperately want a result at our place after the Wood saga and we've struggled against their physicality before. (70) Barnsley (A) 3pts - See Peterborough. (73) Brighton (A) 1pt - Tough place to go is Brighton. (74) Bolton (H) 3pts - Freedman must regret going to Bolton and there are weaknesses in Bolton's team, not least Mills. (77) Palace (A) 3pts - Zaha likely to leave as well as one or two others. Holloway's influence hasn't quite worked yet but Selhurst Park is a tough visit. (80) Watford (H) 3pts - As good as Watford are on the road, this is shaping up to be a massive game for us and the crowd and atmosphere are likely to reflect this. Huge game demanding a huge performance. (83) Forest (A) 3pts - This is the year we break our City Ground hoodoo. (86) 86 points and promotion. B-E-A-U-tiful! STEVIE B Posted 20 January 2013 Share Posted 20 January 2013 I think we would need around 79-81 to gain 2nd spot, its a tighter league this year as there is no two teams running away with it, so I think less points will be needed. Totally agree with this.
kingfox Posted 20 January 2013 Share Posted 20 January 2013 KingFox's analysis sponsored by truelad.com - The home of lad banter Wolves(H) 3pts - They have underperformed this season, Wolves usually are tougher than Foxes, but these Foxes are on steroids, a comfortable win Peterborough(A) 3pts - A very winnable game, this is a proper tinpot club, we can easily kick their arse Cardiff(A) 0pts - Yeah yeah yeah, don't hunt me down, this will be tough and I predict a loss, the little annoying Redbirds will do us Blackburn(H) 3pts - By this match, these will have Shebby Singh in charge, as Appleton decides to jump ship, 6-0 win Charlton(H) 3pts - Good old Chrissy P will get a standing ovation, will be a tight game but I believe we can win(This is a non banter comment sponsored by bored.com) Blackpool(A) 3pts - Blackpool are all over the place at the minute, I predict a win on their cabbage patch pitch - P.S. If anyone is going bring me a stick of rock please x Ipswich(A) 1pts - This game will be an absolute bore, I would take a point, Leeds(H) 3pts - Knockaert will have Peltier's pants down, W****r Warnock chants will be going from 1st minute, and Leeds fans won't shut up for 90 mins, let's teach Dirty Leeds a lesson. Sheff Wed(H) 3pts - This has a big scoreline written all over it, 10-0 Derby(A) 0pts - Sorry guys, I am bad very bad, but I can't see any points here Millwall(H) 3pts - The King Power will be a warzone, Millwall will bring guns, hand grenades, knives and machete swords, get the win and leg it home, unless you want to die that is. P.S. If someone is brave enough to protect Chris Wood and his car, I would be very grateful Barnsley(A) 3pts - God we still have to play these at this dump, I went last year and it was shit, a depressing 1-0 win Brighton(A) 0pts - Forget coming away from this place with anything, my psychic ability senses a loss and my psychic ability is very good, I correctly said that 3 of Rosol's last four pts against Nadal at Wimbledon would be aces....I was right Bolton(H) 3pts - Well this could well be my last ever home game, as I run onto the pitch and get Matt Mills locked into an anaconda vise, we go onto win the game thanks to an own goal from Matt Mills Palace(A) 1pts - Couldn't give two hoots if they sell Zaha, these are a very good side, I think a point Watford(H) 3pts - Usually do well against these at home, but these are better than I've seen them, I want the bragging rights in my house, I don't want to go hitting my Mum's front tooth out again due to frustration Forest(A) 3pts - We will play these off the park, we will get promoted, we will pitch invade, we will piss on their pitch and dig it up with our hands, RIOT!!! Fatboy Fox :) Posted 20 January 2013 Share Posted 20 January 2013 36 more points from 18 games to get to average. 12 wins out of 18. 11 wins, 3 draws 10 wins, 6 draws. 9 wins, 9 draws Our next 12 games: Wolves (H) Peterborough (A) Cardiff (A) Blackburn (H) Charlton (H) Blackpool (A) Ipswich (A) Leeds (H) Sheff Weds (H) Derby (A) Millwall (H) Barnsley (A) What do people think will be most realistic out of those next 12 matches? Note: I do know it's going quite far in to the season. I personally just like taking it 1 game at a time cos that's what the next focus should be on. We shouldn't get 2 carried away. It's only January and a lot of stuff can change between now and end of the month let alone up until Easter! i think we will be able to beat most of them but cardiff will be the biggest test COYB

AKCJ Posted 20 January 2013 Share Posted 20 January 2013 Wolves (H) - Out of sorts, should really have a nice comfortable win against these. Peterborough (A) - We've stuggled at Posh in recent times and I think we'll beat them this year. Although they've had some good results against top sides, we've been ruthless recently Cardiff (A) - As much as i'd love us to win, I don't think we'd be able to manage it. Really do think we're the best two sides *on their day* in the division. Blackburn (H) - We could hammer them or get hammered. Story of their season mirrors ours, i'll sit on the fence. Charlton (H) - Could be a tricky game, they beat us at theirs and they've got a good away record. I think we'll have enough Blackpool (A) - Good record up there, think we'll do 'em. Ipswich (A) - Should stuff these, they're very poor and DJ won't be playing. Leeds (H) - They're very poor and it looks like Becchio could be on the way out. Think we'll beat these comfortably Sheff Weds (H) - Should be another simple home win. Can see this going the same way as Ipswich and Huddersfield if i'm honest. Derby (A) Now this could be difficult. They've got a good home record and they're more than due a win against us. I think we'll get a boring draw Millwall (H) - They'll be up for it, they'll want to prove Wood wrong and I think they'll have a good away following. However I still expect quality to shine. Barnsley (A) - Should be another ruthless away day. Can see this being another 'Bristol'. That'll see us into Auto/winners category and by that time I can only see us and Cardiff being in it it. I think Cardiff will have to go to Hull knowing they need to win to win the league and Hull will have to win to secure play-offs. I think we'll need to win at Forest to win the league and I think we and Cardiff will have been promoted by then. Here's hoping.

cjslcfc Posted 21 January 2013 Share Posted 21 January 2013 Wolves (H) - 3 pts. Easy win, not proved to be as strong as everyone thought they would be. We have come on bucketloads since last facing them (53) Peterborough (A) - 3 pts. Usually not a good place for us to go but neither was Bristol City before the hammering the other day (56) Cardiff (A) - 1 point. As much as I'd like to say we will win, they are very solid at home and as we well know can grind out a result. bore 0-0 draw since such a high stakes game (57) Blackburn (H) - 3 pts. Shambles of a club atm. Would like to get them back for the most undeserved win against us earlier in the season as well (60) Charlton (H) - 1 point. Good away form, couple old Leicester players and coach who will want to get a result. (61) Blackpool (A) - 3 pts. Good record there recently. (64) Ipswich (A) - 1 point. Much better than the drubbing earlier in the season. Mick will make them hard to beat (65) Leeds (H) - 3 points. (68) Sheffield Weds (H) - 3 points, we will have enough to beat them (71) Derby (A) 1 point. surely our recent record against them will give them some motivation! (72) Millwall (H) 3 pts, despite them coming with a vendetta against Wood we will have enough and they seem to be fading a bit now (75) Barnsley (A) 3 points. surely (78) Brighton (A) 0 points. Don't have a good feeling about this one (78) Bolton (H) 1 point. Will be part of a little blip, surely we cant win or be unbeaten for that long! (79) Palace (A) 1 point. Bearing in mind our record there and some of their players (personally think Bolasie was better than Zaha at our place) (80) Watford (H) 3 points. Must win game, good home record vs them and think we will win quite easily. (83) Forest (A) 1 Point. Reckon we will have been promoted by this point as rarely goes down to last game. Not great record there, pressure off in terms of promotion and a party whatever the result. A dream situation would be to win the league there I know, but would take a major c*ck up from Cardiff (84) So overall we finish second. It's gonna be a very exciting road to the end of the season but we certainly have what it takes. Here's hoping to a 2013/2014 premier league season for the foxes! Grewks Posted 22 January 2013 Share Posted 22 January 2013 Cannot see us getting 1st, for this to happen we must win in cardiff IMO. Away games look tough. posh - we always struggle cardiff - we all know why blackpool - poor pitch ipswich - mccarthy turned them around derby - due a defeat there surely? barnsley - see posh Therefore we need to take maximum points at home.
