I think they know exactly where it is.

Keegan Bradley has got it all wrong. They've tried to foster an intimidating atmosphere but it's not worked and has only fired up the European lads more. The more they've tried to be intimidating, the better the Europeans have played. Now their frustrations have turned that from intimidation to just down right nasty.

I've just seen a clip of a journalist asking about if he thinks he's played a part in the atmosphere and the response was just slopey shoulders which is disappointing. He had the opportunity to point out that everything about last night was unacceptable and he didn't take it. Instead opting to have a pop at the journalist.

Keegan is not Bryson. He's gung-ho but generally a  guy who respects the history and traditions of the game. I guarantee you he wouldn't have wanted things to go this far. But as the old saying goes, "if you pray for rain you better be ready for the mud".

I blame the PGA of America more for the obscene spectacle this had devolved into than Bradley. But I also blame them for choosing him as a captain when he clearly was the wrong choice - without even an interview, mind - based on a reality show and deserved remorse over his being left off the '23 team. He would have been far more use to this U.S. squad as a player than as captain.

A big generalisation perhaps but is there a country on earth that lacks self awareness quite like the US?

Part of the problem is that they have always thought of themselves as the centre of the universe.

In my experience americans are obsessed when it comes to making everything 'hostile' to vistors...in sport that is...although at the moment it goes beyond sport.  Its part of the sporting culture, thats why it happens so much and nothing is ever done.  You'd have to behave pretty appalingly to be ejected in the US, and theres no follow ups, they arent banning anyone, those ejected can often turn up the next day no problems.  Americans thrive on thinking of themselves as passionate and being 'hostile' is the way they show it.

There's rarely any humour in it like we get in europe, just nastyness in an attempt to gain the advantage...winning is everything no matter what and 'acting' this way is completely tollerated by the vast majority.

OTOH, maybe the land that invented soccer lol hooliganism and perfected racist chanting shouldn't be lecturing anybody on fan behavior.

But we're so good at it!

Soccer and racism aside

Format means you don't really appreciate the level being played, well I certainly don't as a casual golf viewer. You don't get to see how far under par someone is.

Not a difficult course? Favourable weather or just an unreal standard? Don't think I've seen anything less than par.

The problem with the crowd is they don't know the difference between banter and abuse, generally idiots trying to be funny but Americans don't have the knack. I've not seen all of it but all a bit pantomime for me.

A lot of the players seem to have said the course has been set up 'relatively easy'. But you've got an unreal standard of players too. The standard Ryder Cup pressure is enough for any player you'd think, let alone a hostile (albeit abusive and dumbass) crowd.

Also a casual viewer but can tell Ryder Cup means a hell of a lot to anyone, especially when playing away.

It's a very difficult course normally - it's hosted multiple majors including the U.S. Open. The problem is that Bradley set it up to be as toothless as possible, reasoning that it would help his side, more used to target golf on the PGA tour's weekly stops. But that's obviously backfired, partly because it's become a putting contest and the Euros have putted much better. And also because Bethpage's only defense when it has virtually no rough (the greens are among the flattest in the US Open/PGA Championship rota) is its length. And in a reversal of historical trends, the Euros are communally a longer-hitting side this time.

Agreed. I'm also sure that a ridiculously low percentage of Americans own a Passport, possibly adding to this.

this will be over very quickly

the way the USA fans have behaved is disgusting and they should ban the event from being in the US for the next ten years

typical trump minded idiots

if i was the european team if trumps there shaking hands at the end I would ignore him and skip him

terrible behaviour, sould be ashamed

I was going to ask yesterday what happens if you have an injured player. Seems very generous to automatically get a point.

You think they'd take one or two reserves just in case.

Has the half point for an injury been used before? Seems a bit open to abuse for me. Maybe should carry a sub around just in case.

Not any time recently. Tbf given it is a game centred on etiquette there's almost no risk of abuse.
