What clubs has everyone got?

Yeah, I'm trying to take my mind off relegation.

Next to the definition of  'All the gear, no idea' there's a picture of me. I'm well aware of that, but I'm ok...ish. I definitely need lessons, but have invested in clubs that I'm comfortable with and want. And they'll last me for years.

I NEVER buy the latest model of anything, always wait until they're at least a year old and save a fortune.

Yeah, they cost a lot, but no point buying the latest models.

Biggest bargain was my set of irons for £499. Theyre still £649 on the website I actually bought them from.

Taylormade Stealth HD 10.5 degree driver

Taylormade Burner 3 wood

Taylormade Stealth Plus 3 Hybrid

Taylormade Stealth DHY 4 Hybrid

Taylormade 5-PW P790 irons

Taylormade Milled Grind  52 and 58 degree wedges

Taylormade Soto TP putter

Can you tell I'm brand loyal?

Ladbrokes did a thing on the golf this week, up to £10 bet and its a lucky dip for whatever golfer they give you, but you get 100/1.

I put £1.05 on and got Grillo.

He's only gone and won it lol

Some good stuff there. The P790s are good looking irons.

I'm a Cobra guy for irons. Mizuno for the woods.

Driver - Mizuno ST-X 10.5°

3W - Mizuno ST200X

3H - Cobra King Tec 19°

4/5H - Cobra LTDx 21-24° (adjustable to either loft)

6i-GW Cobra Forged Tec One Length (1/2 inch shorter - 8i length)

Putter - Cobra King Vintage Nova-40 (34 inch)

I bloody love my Mizuno 3W with the lightweight 39g shaft. I hit it better than any club in the bag.

Because of that I've been thinking of replacing the LTDx hybrid with a 23° Mizuno JPX 921 Hi-Fli 5 Hybrid, with a lighter shaft.

Stupid sport.

Been playing well recently then popped to the driving range and was absolutely hopeless. Sliced drives, hit one right off the toe that went off at 45 degrees.... Not done stuff like that in years but three drives in a row that were hideous and out of thirty balls hit about 5 I was happy with. Off to sulk now.

Shot a gross 76 two weeks ago on a par 70 course with two doubles and a treble bogey. Since then two 91s and swinging it like I’ve never held a club before 🤣

Golf has to be the most frustrating game !

Anyone done a major before? Going The Open next month at Royal Liverpool on the Friday, first time I’ve actually gone to watch. Wondering if anyone has before and has any tips on best way to go about it?

Done the open at St Andrews & St George’s. It’s busy. People are rude and will just push past you so they can keep up with the player they’re following, so just be prepared for that. I would suggest certainly trying to get a good position at any tee, that’s a great thing to experience.

Depends what you want from the day really. Some people will get there early and sit in a stand all day so they get to see every player/group come through. Others will 'walk the course' to make sure they see every hole and some will follow their favourite players/groups around.

Like Bert says, it's a bit of a free for all and the crowds watching the likes of Rory will be huge. If you're fit and able, carrying a small set of step ladders means you can stand back a bit but still get a good view.

We used to get our money's worth and get there for the first tee at 6.30am and stay to watch the last group come in at 9.00pm but it's a tiring day. Worth it though just to see the pro's up close and personal.

All those LIV golfers who took the massive paycheck and ran, will be laughing their bollocks off right now.

This.

Another sport sells its soul to the Saudis.

Looking forward to Rory's next interview

I'm a part time golf fan so don't know the ins and outs. But how does this make sense to people like Rory Mcilroy? He's been loyal to the PGA and trotted out their statements, so vocal about LIV Golf; apparently he could have gone there and got a $500 million contract. Tiger Woods could have got even more. I saw on twitter there's one player who has got $15 mil in PGA prize money over the last year and turned down a $130 mil LIV contract.

Surely they are gonna be well pi**ed off.

Where did you get p790s from for that price? Surely not brand new?

I’ve been gagging for a pair for a year or so, but just can’t justify buying them. I bought the SIM Max irons the year they came out, so there’s plenty of life in them yet

The fact they kept that announcement a total surprise is astounding.

Many a golf writer and expert on Twitter crying in their milk that they had no clue what was going on lol

Still lots of unanswered questions and they haven't even got a name for this new 'entity' yet.

Will be interesting to see how it all pans out.

Money talks

PGA decided it couldn’t outspend LIV and spending money on legal stuff was just chucking it away because in the end, the golfers will end up following the money and the PGA sponsors will drift away

how long will uefa be able to resist the money ….. surely the super league or equivalent will happen

Its mint being up close to the action.

Ive been to loads of golf tournaments AND majors.

Id say:

1) The biggest players carry big crowds. So plan ahead a bit. At Royal Liverpool the third tee is a great place to get up close as itll be behind the stand on the first tee. Plan 4-5 groups ahead if you want to see Rory on the tee. Youll see loads of quality players as you wait.

2) Walk the course, but dont walk TOO much. Id say walk 18 holes....but make the walking last all day. The more you "walk" the more youll miss. Walk around and view all the holes, but do it over the entire length of the day

3) If you like an early start, hang out at the range and the putting green. A great place to see some up close action!

4) Hillocks offer great viewing points. There are hillocks between i think its the 7th and 9th (par 3...might not be the 9th) at Royal Liverpool. Great place to see action on both sides of you.

5) Dont be one of those pillocks who just sits in the beer garden all day watching on a big screen. How pointless.

Youll have a great time!

I suppose there is a possibility this sporting success drives the Saudi regime to actually improving its human rights record over time as it will be much more visibly exposed.  We can only hope.

Cheers mate appreciated, plus @Bert @Izzy .

We’ll deffo be throwing ourselves at this fully haha. Getting there early and staying as late as we want. The idea of it being cut day as well really intrigues me.

We’re not too bothered about anyone in particular, so following a certain group does not appeal as much. Want to see all the course and might check out some of them spots you’ve mentioned to camp out at for a bit to see some of the big names. That third tee does sound good, do you get to see through to the first or is there a stand in the way?

The first tee and third tee are close together but unfortunately, the stand will be in the way, so you need to leave the stand and then the third tee will be adjacent to you.

Same rule applies with the stands at the first, if Rory is coming to the first tee, the stand will be packed, so its always good to play ahead. If you know Rory is off at 9am, watch maybe 5 or 6 groups before him tee off from the stand, and then after hes teed off, walk a bit of the course and see the action and maybe check back in with him at the 5th or 6th for example.

Youll still see tons of quality golf from the field, theyre all unbelieveable.

It's not going to though is it. You don't change people or regimes by welcoming them into our world and letting them have all the privileges and fun things we enjoy. It's why we've banned Russian teams from sporting events and Eurovision. They aren't gonna stop because of it, but they are even less likely to if we treat them like they've done nothing wrong.
