Surely the bench is a good option, here ? We're playing the worst team, (on current form) in the league. If one of our fringe squad can't make an impact here, then why are we paying them ? On the bench means he can come on if needed; sit out and rest if it should turn out to be straightforward.

Did Knocky have somewhat of a free role last night or was that just his eagerness to be involved in everything? He was absolutely everywhere when we were in possession in that first half, even creating 2 on 1s with Marshall on the opposite side on a couple of occasions.

He was awesome clearly premier league class, best signing of the season.

He was supposed to be right wing, but he has a habit of wandering off and leaving De Laet exposed. Something we're just going to have to deal with, his flair and creativity results in a lack of shape and the loss of our two banks of four.

yes but its working well so far.

One thing slightly surprised me is that he out limping about after the final whistle.I know he likes to go over to the fans but if there is a relitvely serious injury issue you would expect him to be in the physio room with an ice pack

It's simultaneously great... and a real problem.

He's gonna be subbed every game & always will be.

His energy levels allow him to get away with it in the first half, but as second halves get underway opposition has long been getting an upperhand & his wandering & lack of chasing back is an increasing problem, this will be known & manager's will exploit that flank more & more.

a side effect of this is that it nullifies the attacking threat of RDL who both creates space for Knocky by providing the overlap (in same way Dyer did for Nuge for the goal yesterday)

It also means Big Wes is pulled a bit towards the RB position to help cover, leaving Keane more isolated in the middle.

On the positive flipside, first halves... he's freaking awesome, but second halves he needs to learn a bit about shape.

He'll still get time on the ball & a chance to cut-in to the box rather than purely sticking to the flank, but drifting inside to the extent he did & even coming on to the opposite flank when your right back is under increasing pressure isn't really on.

Anyway, not meant to be a downer on Knocky... more a development area  he's enormously talented, thoroughly entertaining and a key part of our attacking threats.

Agreed. If he can master the defensive part of the game then he'll be a world beater. Luckily our team does accomodate his maverick style.

The stats say we haven't conceded a goal all year down that flank... not really a big problem currently.

He's our attacking outlet and it's down to the team to fill any holes he may leave when going forward, but for people to slate his defending I find hugely annoying. He's not perfect, but we have more problems down the other side than his. When he can he gets back, there was one moment last night where he was the last man tracking back and winning the ball, and top of numerous other tackles and tracking back this year.

I still think alan young was right knockys not quite ready yet!!!!!

I personally think his play and personality have lifted the entire club ,fans , players, staff, and I have a feeling he would not want to be going just loyalty should we do the business come the end of season.Gives confidence to the players around him cos they know they can use him in close company. Some really good work last night in tight situations to keep possession

Not sure how accurate those stats are, the goal yesterday came from down that flank before it broke for Sako.

Obviously we have other problems than Knocky's defensive ability, I'm just pointing out that he wanders off and leaves De Laet exposed. It's got to be balanced with his attacking threat, there are times when the team needs to be disciplined and he needs to be part of that. He's a lot better than he was at the start of the season, and will continue to learn and improve, but there were times most notably in the Boro game when he'd just disappear from his flank completely and leave them with an overlap. Just because we haven't conceded from down that flank very often this season doesn't mean it couldn't cost us at some point.
