Rio Ferdinand withdraws from England squad.

So has Hodgson been clever, picked him knowing he would back out and called his bluff?

British youngsters going off the rails or under-performing could be why clubs are prepared to spend money on more professional and reliable foreign player who are of better value (ok not all ofcourse)?

Yet people massively over spend on English kids.

Absolutely hate Rio Ferdinand, disgusting human being.

I laughed when he pulled out and it didn't shock me when he did. The man bitched about not being in the Squads and when he gets his chance he turns his back on his Country, when in truth we need him more than we ever have, yeah it's only San Marino Friday but this Montenegro game Tuesday is a big game, where we need our best players.

Yet Rio turns his back on us, why? Because his brother didn't lie it and Ferguson didn't like it either. Would Rio have pulled out if he ad just been named in the Brazil 2014 squad? I doubt it very much. Rio had a chance to put all this Terry/Ferdinand racism garbage behind him and for us to forget it too and finally move in with his England career, but typical Ferdinand he wants it all to be about him.

Duck face tw*t.

Hate it how these so called professionals disrespect our national team. Should be one of the greatest privileges they'll ever get.

It's brilliant trying to see himself justify One Direction, Matty Stiles and fretting over his EA Sports card game stats, he is a disgrace.

I have a small conspiracy theory about this: it was a PR stunt the whole way.

I wonder if Hodgson knew all along that Rio wouldn't play, but called Rio up to throw him a bone. This way, Hodgson gets to save face from getting embarrassed from having his little chat with fellow tube passengers getting leaked. It would also make it seem like he and Rio have reconciled any disputes. As for Rio, it would attempt to dispell his reputation as being an egotist that could wash his hands with the England team, as he's now thrilled to have the chance to represent England again, and would really love to help his nation's team when they're a little thin at the back... It's just that his aging body, his physio, and his manager just won't allow him to add more stress, you know?

Now, if this was the reason behind the stunt--and I must reiterate that this is something I've made up on my own--then it obviously didn't account for a cynicism among England fans borne from years of having to put up with the likes of Rio Ferdinand, as this seems to have left Woy and Rio's reputations a little worse than they were a few weeks ago.

Your concise hypothesis is most likely more correct than my fanciful one.

You must have a more devious mindset than me as your's involves more collusion, connivance and complicity than mine

Not any more. He is still a top defender but I think he lacks the pace now. But should be recognised for his quality in the past.

Turned into a real dick over the past year or two.

Yep, sadly. I think he has become a victim of his own hype in that respect. The arrogance of being one of the (current) best.

Judging by his previous comments on it, I blame Twitter largely.

This social media application has turned him and definitely Joey Barton the most arrogant footballers in the football world; still though, I wish they both retire and do one.
