Harry - LCFC Posted 21 March 2013 Posted 21 March 2013 Why? It's the shittest excuse for a derby I'm aware of. To be honest, I think our "rivalry" with Forest is pretty pathetic as well. Our fans bang on about it when it really isn't all that.
Leicesterpool Posted 21 March 2013 Posted 21 March 2013 If Cov go bust then god knows what level AFC Cov will be in, they might aswell bump money into Coventry Sphinx and start from scratch there.
Finnegan Posted 21 March 2013 Posted 21 March 2013 To be honest, I think our "rivalry" with Forest is pretty pathetic as well. Our fans bang on about it when it really isn't all that. Am I right in guessing you're under 30?
Harry - LCFC Posted 21 March 2013 Posted 21 March 2013 Am I right in guessing you're under 30? Yep, eighteen. I've also noticed people of my age tend to have slightly different opinions of who's a rival and what not. Understandable, I know things were different a few decades ago.
Leicesterpool Posted 21 March 2013 Posted 21 March 2013 Don't hate Forest really, to me Cov are the main rivals it's horrible having a Cov postcode where i live.
StanSP Posted 21 March 2013 Posted 21 March 2013 To be honest, I think our "rivalry" with Forest is pretty pathetic as well. Our fans bang on about it when it really isn't all that. What? Why is the Forest rivalry pathetic?
steveherbe Posted 21 March 2013 Posted 21 March 2013 Am I right in guessing you're under 30? Agree! He obviously never attended during the 60's/70's!!
Guest Bilo Posted 21 March 2013 Posted 21 March 2013 To be honest, I think our "rivalry" with Forest is pretty pathetic as well. Our fans bang on about it when it really isn't all that. The 'we don't care about Leicester' schtick has been undermined on countless occasions. The atmosphere at the abandoned game in 2007 would tell you something very, very different about the rivalry. That was vicious. The 'M69 Derby' is nothing, you'll never experience an atmosphere like that Clive Clarke game at either of our two grounds. The mutual hatred just isn't there. Highfield Road was better though, but not by as much as you'd think. Agree! He obviously never attended during the 60's/70's!! As I've said in my response, you need only go back as recently as 2007 to see that the derby is not as one-sided as Forest keyboard warriors like to make out.
Harry - LCFC Posted 21 March 2013 Posted 21 March 2013 Agree! He obviously never attended during the 60's/70's!! Correct. But I must inform you that it isn't the 70s anymore, times change. I understand Cov used to be rivals with Villa, don't see that getting much attention anymore. What? Why is the Forest rivalry pathetic? As much as they probably exaggerate it, you can't ignore what they say about us. I don't think our rivalry is totally non-existent but it doesn't appear to be what some supporters make it out to be.
Larry_LCFC Posted 21 March 2013 Posted 21 March 2013 Its alright, they can just sell their stadium...... oh wait
steveherbe Posted 21 March 2013 Posted 21 March 2013 "But I would say it isn't the 70s anymore," Bugger me, is it not? No wonder my clothes look a bit dated. Suppose that means I'll have to sell the Audi Quattro as well? I know it's not the 70's, but thats where rivalries were BORN.
Finnegan Posted 21 March 2013 Posted 21 March 2013 Correct. But I must inform you that it isn't the 70s anymore, times change. I don't think our rivalry is totally non-existent but it doesn't appear to be what some supporters make it out to be. It's an attempt at banter, mate, a way of winding us up. Newcastle United don't care about us, never talk about us. Luton Town don't care about us, never talk about us. Tranmere Rovers don't care about us, never talk about us. Nottingham Forest? Can't shut the ****ers up. The phrase here is "the lady doth protest too much." It's a self defence mechanism they developed in the latter nineties and early naughties because we were doing well and they'd sunk, really took off when they hit League One for however many seasons and we forgot they existed.
stevelcfc Posted 21 March 2013 Author Posted 21 March 2013 I wonder if Milan has been planning their takeover yet? Perhaps he's a Cov fan as well.
Harry - LCFC Posted 21 March 2013 Posted 21 March 2013 "But I would say it isn't the 70s anymore," Bugger me, is it not? No wonder my clothes look a bit dated. Suppose that means I'll have to sell the Audi Quattro as well? I know it's not the 70's, but thats where rivalries were BORN. The point I was making was very obvious. I pointed out that attitudes and opinions change over time for whatever reason and suggested that perhaps supporters feel less strongly about the rivalry now. Just because a rivalry existed once doesn't mean it'll always hold the same strength in the future. Shame I haven't witnessed anything like that since. This rivalry sounds great but I just don't see it I'm afraid. The fact that we almost took the same number of fans to The City Ground as they did in the FA Cup is very revealing IMO. Perhaps things have gone downhill since 2007. The phrase here is "the lady doth protest too much." It's a self defence mechanism they developed in the latter nineties and early naughties because we were doing well and they'd sunk, really took off when they hit League One for however many seasons and we forgot they existed. Yeah I kind of agree, I don't think it's as obsolete as Forest supporters make it out to be but I've got no doubt that we're very much lower priority for them. We seem to be a bit of a pest to them, they get a bit annoyed when we ignore their comments about us being nothing to them. In a funny sort of way they've started to hate us for that which is what they're trying to avoid. Quite amusing actually.
Simmo86 Posted 21 March 2013 Posted 21 March 2013 I seriously didn't think I'd make it back to my car alive after the abandoned game in 2007!
Tom17LCFC Posted 21 March 2013 Posted 21 March 2013 Yeah the 2007 game was ridiculous but quality, very fierce.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 21 March 2013 Posted 21 March 2013 I find it very difficult to laugh at any other set of fans who see their club go into administration, especially given how hellish those few months in 2002 were for us. The fact that some Coventry fans are or were knobs doesn't bother me; there are still plenty of fans, stewards, shopworkers and a local community who depend on the continued existence of Coventry City Football Club whose club and livelihoods might be at stake. I for one don't find it funny and will not be sinking to the level that some Coventry and Pompey fans sank to when we were there. Also, if some of their fans were laughing it up at us, if we do the same to them... surely that just puts us at the same level as them. Some City fans are pondscum.
stevelcfc Posted 21 March 2013 Author Posted 21 March 2013 Coventry as a club isn't under threat or at least that is what they have told everyone, and nobodies job or lively hood is under threat due to this, both on and off the field.
Finnegan Posted 21 March 2013 Posted 21 March 2013 Wasn't it before/during/after/around 2007 that someone threw a pigs head through a pub window? I'm sure I haven't just dreampt that.
SystonFox Posted 21 March 2013 Posted 21 March 2013 The 2007 forest cup game had some ugly scenes after it was called off at half time. Them being sore losers (knowing they had already lost the replay!) indicates they definitely see us as rivals. Cov , for me, are a laughing stock of a club. Even before they got relegated to league one. They celebrated our demise in 2008 having only stayed up by a point. Tinpot. They bring around 1,500 to a game with us only 30 miles away and id say 75% are stone Island Danny dyer chav wannabes.
Voll Blau Posted 21 March 2013 Posted 21 March 2013 Wouldn't even wish administration on Derby or Forest. MK ****** or Red Bull Salzburg on the other hand...
Langley Posted 21 March 2013 Posted 21 March 2013 Also they've been kicked out of their ground. http://t.co/HKGRrRTqjt
Corky Posted 21 March 2013 Posted 21 March 2013 It's remarkable. They are actually having a decent season for the first time in, well, decades and then this happens.
SystonFox Posted 21 March 2013 Posted 21 March 2013 A decent season? They have picked up form of late and feels like they win away a lot especially with last minute winners whenever I have noticed on the sky Saturday super day thing.
