TPH's Ale Thread

If you are in Norfolk and can get a pint of Nelson's Victory, I highly recommend you do so.

I went to a pub in Norfolk once and drank this delicious stuff called "Old Nog".

After 5 or 6 or them, I struggle now to remember the name of the pub, but it was good gear.

I'll keep a look out for both.

The Derby Winter Beer Festival is on from the19th at the Roundhouse. Derby. Next to the train station so ideal for me.

It says Pride park so is the football ground near? And should I wear a City shirt?

The beer list isn't up on the site yet. May go next Friday. Busy Wed/Thursday and matchday Saturday.

I think the Winter Festival used to be in Liverpool.

Went to Beers of Europe in Kings Lynn today, and wow I have never seen anything like it.   :worship:  I mainly got Belgian/American beers but did get a bottle of Nelson's Revenge to try.

Did you try this one, Lambic Gueuze? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gueuze

If you like Belgian beers, you owe it to yourself to try it.

Some don't like the taste (sour yet beautifully tasty, highly distinctive, very refreshing), but many others, me included, think it's heaven on earth. Most enjoyable beer I've had with the possible exception of Wobbly Bob, though Stairway to Heaven runs it close.Decent strength, too - strong enough for a buzz, but not as ridiculously strong as some Belgian beers.

A nice, cold Gueuze makes a great summer beer.  Mort Subite's probably my favourite of the more readily available Gueuzes, but if you can get your hands on some Cantillon I heartily recommend it.  It's a bit less sweet than a regular gueze which makes it a better mealtime drink.

Yeah I have had a few gueuze beers and I personally love them.

I went to Moeder Lambic and had Cantillon's gueuze on tap and that was amazing. I also went to Mort Subite and had theirs, I definitely prefer Cantillon's and also tried their Kreik which I enjoyed. They are certainly not for everyone though!

Today the Belgians I got were Grimbergen Blond,  Duvel Tripel hop, Lindemans Faro, Kasteel Rouge, Delirium Red and La Trappe Witte.

Anyone got any good recommendations for Golden ales and where I can get them from?

Try Oakham JHB ( Jeffery Hudson Bitter ) available on draught at The Swan And Rushes at the top of Jarrom St.next to the infirmary. Also just as good in bottle from Tesco.A golden light crispy ale with a hint of grapefruit very refreshing and fruity. One pint is never enough. Not too strong about 3.8.I wouldn't miss it before the match.

  • 3 weeks later...

Got some decent ales in today, two Belgians (Tripel Karmeliet) a Weihenstephaner hefeweizen, and a selection of Fuller's (bengal lancer, honey dew, esb and london porter).

I had that for the first time in a restaurant a couple of weeks ago. Nice beer.
