Is one goal enough?

We somehow ground out a win last night which puts us in the driving seat for the second leg.

However, amidst the euphoria on here, don't be fooled that we played particularly well. Chances were spurned, some of the players looked nervy and there were times in that second half when I thought we were going to lose. I suggest that many other people probably did too.

The football wasn't pretty. Second half, much of the play was a big hoof up the field from Kasper hoping to hit Wood (or Kane) leaving King and James to simply watch the ball flying over their heads.

There was endeavour and 'pashun' but again, the final product was missing until Nuge's excellent header from Knocky's excellent cross.

One of the best things about last nights game was how poor Watford's finishing was. Well they've got Deeney back on Sunday who might not be so forgiving.

Lets have a reality check. I reckon Watford are going to be better on Sunday than they were last night. If so, we'll have to up our game too.

Is one goal going to be enough?

Opinions please...

They're the top goal scorers in the league and they're the second highest in the entire football league, they'll score. We'll need to be bang on our game, even if we conceded two we need to be in free scoring mode ourselves, that one goal will be the difference I'm sure of it.

I expect them to up their game, but we will also, add to that the pressure is on them which may open them up a little more and allow us manage the midfield.

One wont be enough, but i think we will grab another.. and probably get away with a draw..even a sneaky win??

From watching the stream last night, we are good enough to beat them... and i think we will.

I think not, but hey it is a lead. Wasn't a game that reflected either teams true quality but in some ways that makes me even happier with the result.

We usually lose right scrappy games like that!

First half we could've been out of sight but we do like to waste a chance or two don't we!

Not entirely sure how we should approach the second leg? Think it could be dangerous trying to defend that one goal lead

In the first half I think that we were the better team. We had 2 GOLDEN chances and missed both where as they only really had 1. I thought the lads showed a lot of passion and desire last night. If they play like that on Sunday then I think we will do it. Just got to start like we did last night but actually get the early goal.

Probably not.  I can't see us going there and keeping them from scoring for two consecutive games, they are a very good side on the ball.  However I can see us scoring goals against them.  I think we did enough in the first game to show that we can worry their back four/back five particularly with Dyer's pace as they look to play further up the field and Zola will be aware of that.

Perhaps after watching spoiling tactics at the King Power for the whole season, we should be utilising that ourselves a little now?  Perhaps not.  However the longer we keep it at nil-nil, the more chance we have of nicking that first goal in the game, and I think that will be crucial to the outcome of the tie.

How many would we have had to win by for you to be at least a little cheerful?  Do you sit there, wait for us to win and then study the game for negatives?  We just beat the third best team in the league without letting in a goal at home and your first thought is to dampen optimism?  I agree that we shouldn't get too carried away or get arrogant but my God man your life must be dull.  Do you ever allow yourself to dream?  I would rather get excited and carried away and dare to dream of the promised land than never let the thought even enter my head.  Caution, yes but don't have a go at people for getting a little excited.  If you can't get carried away and excited when your team win what's the fvcking point in football?

Come on you Foxes!!!!!!

"somehow..."?

By getting the tactics right, by working hard. By playing the right way against them to create chances for ourselves & playing the right way to keep a clean sheet against the best away side in the league & the 2nd highest scoring side in the whole country.

Talk it down all you want but we did what we had to last night against a very, very good side to go to Watford with a chance & to make it evenly balanced.

My wonder is should we persevere with the abysmal Wood & keep Kane to come off the bench, or start with Kane but then not be able to offer anything off the bench.

No my first thought was to ask a genuine question and to start a thread about it. Some of the replies have been considered and make sense IMO.

If you don't want to discuss it, don't.

And don't get personal...

Ha, I didn't think he was 'abysmal'.  He didn't have a great game but the service up to him, particularly in the first half was pretty ordinary.  I think despite winning, we didn't play as well as we can do and certainly Wood was part of that, but you could say the same for Watford as well.

Matty James had a cracker-lacking game on the other hand.

that one goal will be the difference.

we need to score first on sunday but not too early if it makes sense. hold them 0-0 up to about 60 mins grab a snatch and grab counter attack and then theres little time for them to score twice.

in an ideal world obviously.

not sure i could take the nerves of it being 0-0 at 85 or worst case 1-0 to them

No no, it's just the negativeity that annoys me.  You could look at it that if we score one they will need three!  We played great last night, we were the better team and we stopped them from scoring.  I understand that realism is important but can't you see how borish it is for the rest of us that certain people in here always, always search for the negatives?  Just have a re read of your thread and ask yoursef if it sounds like we just won a play off semi final first leg?  Do you ever enjoy football?

Sunday will be a far less nervy affair, 1st legs are often a bit scrappy but on the whole I thought we played some decent stuff. One things for sure, we've found our bottle again and we'll have a right bastard go at this now.

Watford hate teams sitting back at them, it's risky if we do that and they nick a goal but its how teams have worn Watford down this season.

Yours is the only response of that 'type' so far.

ie not really looking at the game but just wanting to slag anyone who you consider 'negative'. There's a surprise....

Personally, I thought we were the better side in the first half, they were the better side in the second half. Watching the game mid-way through the second half, I thought it looked like we were never gonna score, but that they could nick one.

Once we did score, we took control and could have gotten another.

Don't just live in the clouds, just discuss the game and the OP. Or if you don't want to, then don't.

I think you're being a little unfair mate.  I didn't read the original post as partiuclarly negative, certainly not borish.  I think the original post just reflects nervousness about how evenly poised the tie is, and how tough it will be away playing a good side in the 2nd leg.

I think so, they will have to come out and attack us which will leave them vulnerable at the back and we are not to bad ourself when playing on the counter, and in pressure situations like at Forest we seem to be able to grind out the result.

No doubt they will probably score but we still have a great defense which has had 14 clean sheets plus the best keeper in the Championship

Last nights performance was full of effort and belief, some good performances but for all that our team play was a long way below our best. It was a playoff and it was tense, we deserved our lead, just but it is going to take a similarly committed performance on sunday to see us through.

King and James were outstanding, closely followed by Dyer and Morgan. De Laet, Keane and Nugent all put in solid games but Knockaert was both frustrated and frustrating, Schmeichel a disaster distribution wise and Schlupp and Wood a long way off the pace.

On sunday Watford will have to come after us, but I hope NFP sets us up in a positive manner. Tactically we will need to get it right, not a thought that fills me with confidence but if we get it right we have enough about us to get it done.

It's just words like "somehow" and "fooled".  If I read it wrong then I do apologise but you do tend to be a bit of a dampener?  I am a simpleton who always likes to look on the bight side I know that.  I just get annoyed and have a go at the folk that are always negative.  I still love you, just felt that after a good win after what was an unbelievable win at Forest your post sounded a little negative.

To discuss the post...... yes, I feel that one goal is enough based on the fact that we did not let one in.  It means that if we score, which I believe we can, we will be in the driving seat.  I just wonder if the first leg had been away and we had lost one nil whether you'd have come straight on here and said "hang on guys, don't be negative, one goal probably wont be enough and we will be better in the second leg"?

Come on you Foxes!

If we score once (which we should do) then unless they score 3 times and batter us (which never happens) we'll get to extra time at least.

Not a dampener at all. I say it how I see it.

I used 'somehow' because I couldn't see a goal coming and 'don't be fooled' because I didn't think we played as well as we can.

That's the reason, which I stick by.

Personally, as I wrote last night, I think Watford are there for the taking. Their home record is worse than their away record and I think we have a better team. We just need everyone firing.

Cheers for the reply.

I've just checked my crystal ball and it says it will be if we win or draw at their place.... or if we lose by no more than one goal and win on pennos.

One goal is never enough from a two-legged tie - make no mistake our nerves will be totally shredded on Sunday.  Watford can't keep missing chances like they did last night, we're going to have to really up our game.

I doubt it,

I think if we can get in the lead at there place they could fall apart. But I expect them to come out guns blazing so to speak;we'll need least 1 goal..
