SeattleShane Posted 15 May 2013 Author Posted 15 May 2013 And the first half of the season is promotion form... so that isn't an argument that will stand up... yes it does , promotion form that turned to relegation form Why do you think that happened? Pearson resting players for Huddersfield, all the long ball. Best defence in the league to suddenly start leaking goals. Wood a prolific scorer when he was bought to being someone who didnt know where the goal was. So where doesnt my argument stand up?
ozleicester Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Got us to the playoffs... within one kick of Wembley.

Best defence in the league to suddenly start leaking goals. Wood a prolific scorer when he was bought to being someone who didnt know where the goal was. So where doesnt my argument stand up? If it had been the other way round ( starting badly) yet ending on a high even more people would be al over him so it really doesn't stand up. The reason why im still backing him is because I see that he has assembled a squad that has more ability than what I feel we've had for quite some time. they are young yet have some experienced heads around. The talent is there - of that there is no doubt- we've all seen it at various stages this season. I'm just not buying the idea that everything can change within a year and a half. To try and build a team that will bring long term sustainable success takes longer. I Believe Nigel( and specifically the team has made a step forward in the season just gone. However, as I have just written in another thread.. with getting rid of the deadwood and also a couple of astute signings this summer , Nigel will begin to run our of 'excuses' as some people have called them and will have no where to hide. He must now deliver.
Leicester_Numan Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Not necessarily the case that everyone in favour of Pearson actually wants him as manager. There are no credible alternatives right now and with FFP coming in, we need a manager that can balance the business side of things with the football side. Plenty of people who were wanting him out a couple of months ago are choosing to stick with Pearson as there is no-one better at that, currently available right now.

I know there are some people who think that way... including one or two of my relatives, but it isn't just about who is available... we can MAKE someone available by perusing them as we did Pearson at Hull... So the concept of backing Pearson based on who is currently our of work doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me...

So the concept of backing Pearson based on who is currently our of work doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me...The problem is we would have to pay compensation to Nigel and the club we poached the manager from, that would be a fair whack when your spending is restricted by FFP and you've got a lot of overpaid players you might not be able to get rid of. Out of work managers cost nothing in compensation and you can get them at a lower wage
dayday Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 I dont doubt Pearson in the transfer market, just have this nagging doubt that he cannot get us over the line.
jamesmilner Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 the way we play is not my cup of tea , not enough possession football . long passing just doesnt work in this league anymore . the championship used to be a tough playing type of football league to get out of but look at the top teams , all play keep ball something we are not that good at .something has to change to make that happen ? what ? pearson change his coach/coaching style ? doubt it hes a defender with a defender brain . zola played how ? yep just like watford did sunday !
bob gregory Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 To go from dead certs for promotion to 1 win in 18 can only be a man management issue. It's not as if anyone stole our prize assets in janurary in fact we added some more. He has no personality or charisma and poor at most things tactical .........I can't respect him and I'm sure neither can his players..
BNET Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Can l had to the heading WITHOUT THE USE OF THE WORD STABILITY. To say they're are no credible replacements is a complete joke. The job pays a million pound per year with a very high chance that can lead to Premiership football and even higher wages. How many managers in the UK alone are on that type of money and how many would like to be ? The club is set up to be in the Prem asap, the only factor that as prevented this is seriously poor management. We have had the best squad in the league, we where the bookies favourite to win the league, they didn't factor that even with Pearsons shocking collapse, that we wouldn't replace him and march on, the Thais have failed. l have no doubt he will be sacked soon, the speculation alone from the press ect points this way. Everybody bar the naive, deluded or blindly loyal know he as failed badly, he as said that his task for this season was automatic promotion, HE knows he's failed, he finished 6th with the lowest amount of points that any other team as done in the past, we didn't even deserve 6th. We only achieved that by the balls ups of the other teams around us, which in itself say's how poor we have been in a poor league. l will not watch another game while he is our manager, even though l have already paid for my season ticket. l brought my season ticket confident that he won't be in charge next season, even if we fluked promotion. No one would we stupid enough to give Pearson a job in the Premiership ! also l am sure he will never manage a team at a higher level than Leicester are now.
wurmer Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Name 2 serious contenders who would be better - and I mean serious contenders, I.e. out of work, who would realistically be interested in a club that is going to be hobbled next season by FFP. That's why.
Cropwellfox Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 I dont doubt Pearson in the transfer market, just have this nagging doubt that he cannot get us over the line. This. His record on signings isn't that bad at all. O'Neill signed a few dogs during his time lets not forget. I just can't help but feel up against the likes of Freedman, McCarthy, Adkins, McDermott, Poyet that he'll fall short. I would take any of those over NP in a heartbeat
Foxhateram Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 It's the overall product of the season I focus on and the overall product is below. We now have a team that is young and exciting, it will get better with time. We got rid of the dead wood, beckford, danns etc get out! Their wages are poisen to this club. We played some of the best football I have seen a city team play at times. We have the ability to go LNG and ruff it up (plan b) who was it that said we needed one? We have it! People still moan. We have the basis of a squad that hasn't been built on That much money that with a few additions will be great. We made the playoffs and were a kick away from wembly and 91 minutes away from the premier league. After all the crap Pearson had to get rid of and the way he had to tighten the ship, this season was always going to be battle as hard and high as you can. Build on that and we will be in a great position this time next year. Progress has been made on and off the pitch. That is why the man shows stay. Now go ut your dummy back in and stop wanting everything over night. " people these days want everything, and they want it now, no logic or patience, it's crazy!"

Bert Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 He's not just the manager of the team, he's the manager of the club. Have a look at what he's doing off the pitch, with regards to the wage bill and how much money he has actually saved us. He has a fairly settled squad that's being very nicely built too, which doesn't need disrupting. Bar Chelsea, no club who has had as many managers in the space of 6 years as we have has ever been successful.

C-man Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Nige will get us there. One of the reasons we fell apart was our squad is half the size of some other teams in this division. We used the fewest players out of any club in the Championship which has to lend itself to tiredness. If we improve a few areas over the summer, keep the likes of King, Kasper, James, Morgan and Knockaert then we'll have a real shot at it next season.

the-blue-wildabeast Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Don't doubt he has done some good for the club in terms of bringing younger players in and reducing the wage bill, but, there is no guarantee young players will be better next season, and how many would you say have improved since working with Pearson. Also, bare in mind not just the relagation form since Xmas, but we started poorly, had a shocking away record, got sussed at home, teams like Charlton just flooded the midfield and out fought us, he is a tactical baboon, why didn't he play 5 across the midfield to limit Watford's space and support the defence etc, because he only has one system, and that was sussed by Xmas, and it will be sussed next year. Also, factor in that 5 game winning run included Wolves and Middlesborough where we were lucky to win,and without that, we would have fighting Barnsley and Peterborough to stay up. Forget for one minute who may or may not be available, does anyone seriously see a manager like Pearson, with so many weakness's in his locker EVER getting City promoted, because a hell of a lot of City fans don't and think we are just writing off more seasons.
Sooper Steve's shin Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 I'm wavering. I think there are good arguments to keep him - some of our performances up to the end of January were among the most exciting I've seen a Leicester team play in a long time and we amassed a lot of points (and goals) that ultimately got us the play-off place that, after last season, we probably would have hoped for. He has brought down the wage budget, seems to have picked up some good young talent and shipped out some of the crap. We did come very close and there would be no questions asked at the moment if only Knockaert had placed his pen better (or poked the follow up a bit harder). We got to the very brink of a play-off final that I would have fancied us to win. On the other hand, we had the disastrous freefall after January and couldn't buy a win for three months. It is almost unforgiveable to implode in that fashion with barely a whimper. Some tactical decisions have been incomprehensible, playing certain players out of position, a series of odd substitutions, a habit of using subs in the last few minutes of tight games to little effect... and Harry Kane. Chuck in the mysterious loss of form of Chris Wood (possibly not his fault, but he's not exactly come out in support of Wood or explained whether he's ill/injured). If I wasn't a little sick of our constant changes of manager in the search for The Special One, I would say get rid now. I'm still tempted to take that view if only to inject a bit of excitement into this post-play off depression - Martin O'Neill would be amazing but wouldn't come back; if we got Neil Lennon I would be delighted to have a former player with a bit of passion and a decent managerial CV; a McCarthy or McDermott would be OK but are they worth the change? I think overall that I am (just) on the side of keeping him for now. We have put a lot of effort to get to this point and a new manager would inevitably start over again; we'd lose Craig Shakespeare who I think is tremendously valuable as a scout; and there is no guarantee we could do any better - constant change has not served us particularly well for the last decade, it leaves a lot of "deadwood" as players are put to one side and I think Pearson probably has a good argument to say he is only part of the way through building something. Even keeping Pearson creates its own stability issues in that he will be under massive pressure to start the season well. If we don't then we could be back in that cycle of a mid-season managerial change again, which is even worse than changing in the summer. Given the nature of the Championship, things can turn quickly so I would say to our owners that if they are going to keep Pearson then he must have the whole season as long as we are there or thereabouts. But I will probably change my mind next week!
