_Fatboyslow_ Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 Confirmed by Jason Bourne on radio Leicester: Richards is NOT becoming Chairman. Good And who said he was ?
ealingfox Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 And who said he was ? The BBC, apparently. This just in: 1249: FOOTBALL Sir Dave Richards is set to become the Leicester City's new chairman, Press Association Sport understands. Richards, the former Sheffield Wednesday chairman, will return to club football when he steps down from his role with the FA Premier League at the end of this month. The 70-year-old will replace Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha at Leicester with Terry Robinson set to join him at the King Power Stadium to work alongside manager Nigel Pearson as director of football after leaving Stoke's academy. Love the way they call us THE Leicester City. We are MASSIVE!
_Fatboyslow_ Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 Fair enough ealingfox. I was starting to form the view he is an expert on bankruptcy and how to get your money out before the brown stuff hits the fan
seenitall Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 From the Guardian an hour ago Sir Dave Richards is to become chairman of Leicester City. Richards, the former Sheffield Wednesday chairman, will return to club football when he steps down from his role with the Premier League at the end of this month. The 70-year-old will replace Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha at Leicester with Terry Robinson set to join him at the King Power Stadium to work alongside manager Nigel Pearson as director of football after leaving Stoke's academy. It is understood the Foxes have made the appointments with financial fair play in mind. The forthcoming FFP rules, if broken, carry penalties such as a transfer embargo and last season Leicester's losses were in excess of £29m. Srivaddhanaprabha has been preparing the club for what he hopes will soon be Premier League football and Richards has been brought in to ensure it is run on a cost-effective basis. The Premier League chairman is a member of the FA's board, chairman of the FA's international committee, president of the European Professional Football Leagues organisation and chairman of Uefa'sprofessional football committee. Robinson's brief will be to assist Pearson in squad building but he will specifically be asked to concentrate on lowering Leicester's wage bill by jettisoning a number of high earners signed by former manager Sven-Goran Eriksson.
ealingfox Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 If there is something Richards can do to get rid of the shitmunchers then I'm all for it, let's just hope he himself is then jettisoned before he has a chance to do anything with the extra cash knocking about.

There is nothing he can do that the people there can't do already. We can't force people out of the door, all he can do is be a better negotiator.... or accept bids for players we don't want to lose, where Pearson would normally have rejected them

ealingfox Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 What is going on here? Is the guy joining the club or not? The BBC, apparently. Love the way they call us THE Leicester City. We are MASSIVE! Now backtracking from the BBC, actually edited the above statement on their live news ticker to read: 1249: FOOTBALL Sir Dave Richards has told BBC Radio Leicester that he is not becoming chairman of Leicester City despite speculation claiming he was replacingVichai Srivaddhanaprabha. The Football Association board member and former Sheffield Wednesday chairman had been linked with the role at the King Power Stadium. Leicester City are yet to make any official announcement about the matter.
Babylon Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 So there is something he can do.... It's not something the others can't do though. But without interest from other parties you are still stuck with them, so no, there is nothing he can do that others can't to force people out of the door if they don't want to go.

Well if he's as crooked as people have made out in this thread I'm sure he can make Gallagher, Wellens, Danns and Beckford each an offer they can't refuse...

Dan Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 Only Leicester could hire someone with an abysmal track record in finance, "with FFP in mind". Very much mixed reports so far too.
Babylon Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 Only Leicester could hire someone with an abysmal track record in finance, "with FFP in mind". Why is it here that Andrew Neville gets it in the neck and not the Chairman for our finances, yet at Wednesday it's the Chairman (Richards) and not the club secretary. Hmmm.
Dan Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 Why is it here that Andrew Neville gets it in the neck and not the Chairman for our finances, yet at Wednesday it's the Chairman (Richards) and not the club secretary. Hmmm. From me? They're all accountable. Anyone who wasn't involved that should be is also at fault. The Thais have failed to control our finances. I think they've been unlucky in the timing of everything, but hopefully it'll be a lesson to them that you can't just spend freely anymore in football. Neville clearly is in the wrong job and got his job due to being around the club for years, nothing to do with his expertise (which he clearly lacks). They're all accountable just like Richards is very accountable for Sheff Weds' demise.

You don't know what advice or comments he made to the owners. You don't know the facts but don't let that stop you slagging someone off.

Harry - LCFC Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 @ColinHazelden News on #lcfc tonight on @bbcemt. In short, Richards says he won't be Chairman but we're sure as poss Robinson is coming. More at half six. Retweeted by Jason Bourne
Dan Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 Robinson sounds certain. The conflicting reports regarding Richards are an absolute joke.
tyneside fox Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 We are the laughing stock of the division the club need to make a statement of intent IMO are the Thais staying or is this the start of the club being sold again. I am a little worried that we are on the downward spiral and administration is around the corner I have no source just my feeling.

Seems to me that they are making an investment to try and ensure a return. They've tried it their way, not been successful, so they are looking to get people in who have some experience. Seems a wise move to me.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 We are the laughing stock of the division Way to over-exaggerate mannnnn
Deucalion Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 Oh I don't blame you one bit for commenting on your football club and the changes being made My point was there's no point in commenting on my football clubs history (Richards era) when you clearly said you didn't know the ins and outs of it I posted a link with a number of balances views on about Richards on a topic started by a Leicester fan on a Wednesday forum that I thought might be of interest to some members, I clearly don't think it'll be a wise move and hope he does reject it because I like Leicester, a proper club. I know exactly what Dave Richards did to my football club and I'm absolutely gutted he'll be chairman at Leicester I don't know if you are still viewing this thread, but if you are, I understand you have a fixed view of Dave Richards. From the outside, it looks to me like he had a fair amount of success at Wednesday before things went wrong. Wednesday fans criticise the bloke for spending money, but in my opinion he was only doing what would be expected by the fans at the time. I bet Wednesday fans weren't howling about the money spent when it brought success to the club. During Leicester's last successful period in the top flight, my regret is the chairman and the board did not invest sufficiently in a successful side. We were finishing regularly in the top 10 and I wonder what would've happened had further investment followed this. For the record, Leicester ended up in a similar situation as Wednesday anyway, being relegated from the PL, going into administration and eventually being relegated into League One. Leicester and Wednesday are not the only clubs who have faced this scenario, so it is an over-simplification to suggest the actions of Dave Richards directly caused it. So Wednesday fans have their scapegoat, and all clubs seem to need those. While I am aware of how his time at Wednesday ended, what I see is a man with a huge amount of experience in the administrative side of football who should have the skills to ensure things are run better behind the scenes at Leicester. I could be wrong, he could be an idiot and bring disaster to the club, but so could many other people and many other reasons. Instead of go into a fit of panic now, I will give the bloke a chance to prove his worth to my club. If I'm wrong I'm wrong, but I think it would be more wrong to right him off before he has even started the job.
