smudger63 Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 This place is funny, usual ridiculous overreaction seemingly based on his time at Wednesday a long long time ago. What are the charges against him there? Over spending?... Newsflash, we are already overspending. Anyone brought in will be tasked with reducing our costs and not increasing them, so you can stop worrying about that. Choosing the wrong manager? Well there are very few chairman out there who haven't chosen some duffers in their time. Oh, and we already have a manager so really there is no need to worry there at the moment either. If there was a concern, it could be that these people are being brought in because the owners know what's coming and want experienced people in charge of it (as well as people in the line of fire, other than themselves). If we can't get rid of the high earners we want, then we are going to have to sell some of our better players and that won't be popular. If that needs to happen, then it needs to happen no matter who is Chairman. Martin George wasn`t too bad, when it came to picking a manager. Brian Little and Martin O`Neil spring to mind.
AnotherShitSeason Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 Isn't all this just Mandarić trying to sort his mates out with new jobs? The Thai's have no football connections over here except MM. Seems they are at the mercy of his advice. Richards doesn't sit right with me.
Babylon Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 Martin George wasn`t too bad, when it came to picking a manager. Brian Little and Martin O`Neil spring to mind. Hence why I said very few.
Babylon Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 To be fair Babs, if you're desperate to cut costs and completely change the culture of the club why would you appoint a man whose got a reputation for spending too much money? Wednesday were crippled under his helm towards the end and his own businesses have gone in to insolvency. It's slightly perculiar and hardly gives much confidence. His was an absolute baffoon as PL chairman as well, although him falling in the water fountainw as magic! I hope he get's coonted and goes on the pitch at half time when we're on the verge of relegation next season. Haha Well you are the first to use that argument in this thread I think, it's a fair point. Better than "oh no we're ****ed, the Thais are leaving, he fell in a pool waaaaah). But really cost cutting is cost cutting (if that's what it is). It needs someone ruthless and a good negotiator... and I'm not sure anyone knows on here whether those are his best traits.
Jakemoore Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 Hopefully he'll be a genius at the helm but who really knows

He would have extensive knowledge of ffp, being the chairman that overseen its introduction to the premier league. His contacts within the fa, could be an invaluable asset to us. Just a thought.
MooseBreath Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 Seems like a sign the Thais are ready to take a more backseat position, which is good because that's what you'd expect if they're here for the long haul. They need to make sure their workload at the club is sustainable alongside their other commitments, so employing an experienced chairman to oversee the day to day running of the club makes sense.

It's all guess work anyway, nobody really knows what the hells going on, whose job will be what etc etc. Seems like a sign the Thais are ready to take a more backseat position, which is good because that's what you'd expect if they're here for the long haul. Again... I find it worrying when you are the voice of reason.
Burmesefox Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 Whelan Neville and co made a massive balls up. The thais have made error after error in allowing all of this. It's an ungodly mess. When alls said and done - we the fans will still be there whether we are Premiership or Vauxhall conference. One thing is for sure.......it's going to be a bumby ride.

Dickov22 Posted 18 June 2013 Author Posted 18 June 2013 Confirmed by Jason Bourne on radio Leicester: Richards is NOT becoming Chairman. Good
Raw Dykes Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 Richard's is bad news. I think we are starting to see the fall out of not getting promoted. Depressing. The Grammer Nazi says, "I've seen apostrophes misused in my time, but this is a new low. How many people have a punctuated name?" He's a bloody pedant. Ignore him.
jimmeh Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 Why the good news? There's going to be a new chairman whatever happens now. Could be someone worse.
TheUltimateWinner Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 @TheSharpeEnd: As we reported today, Sir Dave Richards expected to take "senior role" at #lcfc. That's not necessarily as chairman. http://t.co/AaGSE5u3rY

EDIT: I've certainly heard he loves to dive in to a challenge and throw himself in at the deep end
Trav Le Bleu Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 On the plus side, he's 70 and from the north, so could croak any time now.
CosbehFox Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 My concern with Richards is the fact his financial record before and then at Wednesday is debt and bankruptcy. He couldn't run a ''normal'' business let alone a basketcase, complex, losing money football club. Are people really judging being head of the PL and being on the FA board as a good indicator of a 'football man'? Really can't see the need for a DoF or a new chairmen. What we need is a managing director who knows the market. Reading have Nicky Hammond, West Brom had Dan Ashworth, Swansea have Huw Jenkins. These guys work as a link between manager and board. Andrew Neville could have been that bloke but it's clear he doesn't have a clue.
fox in the sox Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 I believe that Richards will not be joining as Chairman but to guide the club through FFP. Surely not the best person to turn to?
Babylon Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 I believe that Richards will not be joining as Chairman but to guide the club through FFP. Surely not the best person to turn to? Depends on how well he knows the rules... or should I say, how well he knows how to bend them.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 I believe that Richards will not be joining as Chairman but to guide the club through FFP. Surely not the best person to turn to? Probably the only guy the Thai's know.
Dan Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 Relief. The apathy amazes me really. Experienced? So the likes of Gaydamak is 'experienced' as well is he? I'm all for them getting in people to help, but it's clear this bloke hasn't got a fvcking clue. I'm dreading the next name linked thanks to this.
jock2612 Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 This was just another wage making it even more difficult to comply with the FFP rules. The director of football role could indicate a lack of faith in AN rather than NP,but we are a right mess at the moment and it is of our making!!
