theessexfox Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Anyone else think the Aussies have a good, effective attack?
Mack Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 not on speaking terms with half of his side so he really is not Whatever the relationships with the players he is getting more out of his bowling attack than he should, often due to quick on field intuition.
purpleronnie Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Anyone else think the Aussies have a good, effective attack? Yes.
Captain... Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Anyone else think the Aussies have a good, effective attack? They have a decent hard working attack, but it is nothing special, we have regularly throughout this series given away our wickets and that is what is so frustrating, we seem to be playing slow patient cricket, which is fine if a little dull to watch, and then just play a stupid shot and get out to a ball that shouldn't have caused any problems. I have no problem today with KP going out and trying to play positive because despite all their wonderful leaves of the ball Cook, Trott, Root and Bell all scored very little pretty slowly. This is the reason why Ronnie and others are questioning our batting.
Guest MattP Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Anyone else think the Aussies have a good, effective attack? They have a decent unit but nothing special. Lyon is adequate but not on the same planet as Amjal or Swann. Harris is excellent as his average shows but unfit, rest are ok and none would get in our team. If people think their attack is effective they must think our batting line up is off the planet given they have only taken 20 of our wickets three times in the last eleven test matches between the sides. People are starting to really overrate this Aussie side, we have been far from our best and they were still out of the Ashes for the quickest time in living memory.
Guest MattP Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Lyon is a good bowler, very underrated and the Aussies will be kicking themselves for picking Agar over him in the first 2 tests. Remember I said on here that 98 was the best thing that happened to us as they would pick him for Lords.
Guest MattP Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 The reason we wont win this series convincingly is that Clarke is a very good Captain and Cook is not. Yeah Cook was useless in India where he set the off side field play for Monty and Swann to tear through them. Not to mention leading from the front in terms of batting. We must have some really special management and wicket keeper considering since 5 o clock we've had on this thread that Cook is a crap captain, our batsman our useless and Clarke gets far more out of the effective Australian attack. You would think we were 2-0 down. We got out today because we played stupid shots, believe me we arent far off par, check the county scores at Durham this season. More in the 100's than 300's. Some of you lot really need to go back and watch the videos of the late 80's and 90's where we had players like Dawson as first choice spinners, Fraser and Caddick churning in all day, openers that both didn't average 40 and number 5 and 6 bats like Ramps and Johnson who didn't even average 30. So spoilt you have forgot what we were. Thank fcuk you don't get all this shit in the grounds. Starting to see why the Walkers is a bowl of negativity and the cricket grounds are full of positivity and excitement.

The Australians are at best (Clarke excluded) average or below and 5-0 should have been on the cards but once the players started mentioning the possibility you sort of knew things might start to go iffy. We have had one day of the match lets see what happens

Whilst you are right some batsmen got themselves out, others were got out but some clever on field captaincy that extracts more than they could dream from a set of average bowlers. Cook does what he has been told by his coach in the main, and fails to deviate from that even when it's glaringly obvious we need to. We are a much better side that the Aussies yet we are going to make hard work of beating them in the manner we should, and that for me is a good chunk down to brittle text book captaincy. My opinion, feel free to slag it off in aeternum.

It seems that Cook doesn't get the praise that Clarke does because he doesn't set wacky fields and bowl his bowlers in a weird order.
Guest MattP Posted 10 August 2013 Posted 10 August 2013 Warnie bowling at Strauss in the ashes zone. Very competitive

My opinion, feel free to slag it off in aeternum. That's fine, it's your opinion. It's just that we seem to, in this country, do down our successful people, and England cricket captains in recent years have been a target for being "too negative" and praising overseas captains, especially Dhoni, who oversaw a total shambles here in 2011. We've come a long way from the appalling days of bowling several feet outside leg stump to frustrate Tendulkar into being rash. That was proper negative tactics. Cook can be quite conservative, as could Strauss, but their results back up their methods.
Guest MattP Posted 10 August 2013 Posted 10 August 2013 Can I have a short leg captain? No keep bowling on off. Nicks it behind. Just saying.....
Swarles Barkley Posted 10 August 2013 Posted 10 August 2013 This drs system is a fvcking joke. He was given out, hit the stumps not given out. Absolute joke Also if its only what the umpire gives it out for why check the stumps being dislodged in the first place. One way or the other, rogers should be back in the shed
Guest MattP Posted 10 August 2013 Posted 10 August 2013 Umpires call just has to go. Ten times worse in a series like this where the ones in the middle are so incompetent.
Captain... Posted 10 August 2013 Posted 10 August 2013 It is incredible how many controversial decisions there have been in this series, in all the test cricket I've watched since the DRS came in I've not seen a single contentious decision. There were rumours of hotspot not being 100%, but never any decisions that caused controversy. Ironically LBW is the only uncontentious decision. In this series we have had Trott given out as there was no hot spot available, batsmen being given out when there was no hot spot and a sound, now a batsmen given out and shown to be out on the DRS but not given out as the umpire thought he edged it when he didn't. Just crazy that all these have happened in the most high profile series.
Corky Posted 10 August 2013 Posted 10 August 2013 Don't understand the Rogers referral. If he was given out caught behind then that should be the only thing they look for. He didn't hit it so not out. The umpire does not give a decision that could be more than one method of being out, so lbw should not be looked at. If it was lbw then umpire's call should be stuck with and it was out. So confusing and needlessly too.
