Bobby Hundreds Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Can't really compare the 2 though. You can't, but it gives an indication that it's not a Headingley and teams haven't been making monster runs first up.
Guest MattP Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Four hours of the hardest graft to get out like that :-(
I am Rod Hull Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Oh dear... Can Jonny hang around before tea?, I`d be tempted to put a night watchman in
Guest MattP Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Massive loss of discipline. Only Cook could come off lunch having actually been got out by a bowler.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Bairstow can keep Taylor at bay and cement his place for the Australia tour with a clever knock here.
purpleronnie Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Massive loss of discipline. Only Cook could come off lunch having actually been got out by a bowler. Yep its so frustrating, we know these batsmen are top notch but they keep throwing their wickets away.
Guest MattP Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Bells was awful just after lunch. Stabilised again now but its a painful cricket pitch. No pace at all to score.
Swarles Barkley Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Im boreddddddddd. Score some fvcking runs! Or just get out. Dear god this is dreadful
Bobby Hundreds Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 We've asked for these types of pitches purely because of Swann and their horror show in India. We can't bat on flat, slow pitches (see UAE for details), I think we'll have a lot more success in Australia.
Guest MattP Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 We certainly aren't as good on them but it was a no brainer to prepare them when it was Swann v Lyon.
purpleronnie Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 I know we declared at lords, but no score above 400 for England this series. How has lyon got 4 wickets?
Vacamion Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 I think our seamers are better than theirs, we should have prepared bowller-friendly wickets and beat them with the ball. Either way, it's going to be a LOT tougher in Oz this winter on their tracks...
I am Rod Hull Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 I know we declared at lords, but no score above 400 for England this series. How has lyon got 4 wickets? Lyon is a good bowler, very underrated and the Aussies will be kicking themselves for picking Agar over him in the first 2 tests.
Super_horns Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 hm...is this just bad batting or is there something in the pitch albeit we did choose to bat I think.
Leicesterpool Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 This is a disaster, i can't believe we picked the same team we had in the last match! We really have been poor in the last two matches! Come on England sort it out! I don't care if we've retained the ashes but performance has been a disgrace!
purpleronnie Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Lyon is a good bowler, very underrated and the Aussies will be kicking themselves for picking Agar over him in the first 2 tests. But on this pitch? Should never cause us so many problems. Hoping for an anderson 50.
Mack Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 The reason we wont win this series convincingly is that Clarke is a very good Captain and Cook is not.
Corky Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 The reason we wont win this series convincingly is that Clarke is a very good Captain and Cook is not. Cook won in India, where Clarke lost 4-0.
leicsmac Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 So, so much overreaction on here. We don't know how good 250 (which is probably around where we'll get) is as a total on this pitch until the Aussies bat. Our top order batsmen haven't become shite overnight - most of them have averages over 45, for pity's sake. We've already retained the Ashes on pitches that don't actually play to our main strength, which is seam/swing bowling. If you're old enough to remember the 90's you'll remember what a crap cricket side really was. This is not it. Just a small drop in form, and even with that England are still no.2 in the world (India? Beat them home and away) and have retained the Ashes.

Of course, I just feel we've batted too defensively, especially in our first innings and even more so on the first day. If that's their attitude then I'd prefer to bowl and try to put Australia under the cosh.
Mack Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Cook won in India, where Clarke lost 4-0. His captaincy by numbers works sometimes. But when faced with changing situations in games you need to adapt rather than just keep on doing the same thing you were told by your coach pre match. Making game plans is one thing, sticking to them whatever happens is just silly. Clarke showed today that a little clever thought and intuition can get you results, even if your bowlers are nothing special.
