Some of the comments on the Sydney Morning Herald sight are great.

My favourite one has to be blaming the umpire for the loss.

Crikey, last time I looked it looked like Australia might sneak it, what a good win.

WI cricket name; Johnson Bournemouth, that's better than my real name.

Well what a turn round, just proves how poor Australian cricket is at the moment. Credit to both Ian Bell and Stuart Broad both have so far been England's hero's for this series.

How many matches is that unbeaten now?

Haven't lost since the first test in India last November have we?

Although Gilo, King of Spain was a decent bowler and competent batsman you have to wonder where Swann was for years. Surely he would've been good enough, or had the ability to improve, from 24/25 onwards?

Started as an opener at Notts didn't he??

Amazing to think that now.

No i agree Cook is a poor captain, i don't see any leadership from him whatsoever,  how on earth could they snub Ian Bell for captaincy is beyond me. Bell as been with the team for around nine years, one of the longest survives in the team yet he wasn't even considered for captain.

Swann just said on the verdict he gave one of the best captains speeches he has ever heard at the tea interval.

Bell isn't captain material at all.

Swann is another one, you've got to remember Bell like Petersen can turn performances around and take matches by his neck. Petersen as captain will never happen i'm afraid.

Cook is a fantastic captain. Even the players that don't like him respect him for the great captain he is. We should be proud of the team we've got, not slagging the captain off! He's done a great job.

Our bowling is easily the best in the world at the minute.

The ECB have gone for the safe media friendly option with Cook just like they did with Strauss, this is due to the balls ups that Flintoff and KP made in the position.

Flintoff's tenure was a disgrace, a 5-0 loss and managed to turn the most important cricket tour of the World into a booze cruise.

Yeah, certainly did in 50 over stuff, remember seeing him for Notts against Leics at Oakham a few years ago, wasn't great tbh, but neither were Notts that day.

Brilliant stuff today as soon as I switched the TV off

Broad has produced some amazing match winning spells, not the most consistent of bowlers, but a match winner.

This got me thinking about Root, 5 failures in 8 innings is not good, but his 180 was a match winner, I know Swann and Bell helped, but the point is matches are won with innings like that, like Broad's spell today, or Anderson at Trent Bridge. Cook, KP and Trott scored significantly in 3 innings, but they didn't win any matches and that is what counts.

Broad and Anderson, like Root only really contributed in one match, but those contributions were match winning and we are 3-0 up.

I really think we should stick with him because he can win a match and that is what it is all about.

Bell for man of the series though, love the fact that he hasn't won man of the match yet, but has been the best batsman through out, only Swann comes close.

Are there players that don't like him? I was under the impression that his great strength was that the players DO like him, whereas Clarke is seen as a great leader because he has these wacky bowling changes and field settings but doesn't get on with Watson amongst others. Regardless, completely agree with the top half of this.

Best bowling attack in the world? Well, the Aussies can't be that far behind based on the last four tests. And South Africa, with Steyn (332 wickets at 22) and Philander (89 wickets at 17), would certainly have more than a case.

It's funny I was watching the Australian coverage of the ashes, and the question was posed to Ian Healy and Greg Chappell who is the best captain in world cricket? Both answered Michael Clarke by a long way with only MS Doni able to even run him close. Our own Ali Cook was not even worth a mention.

I know a lot of England supporters arnt happy with cook either but if you look at the facts:

Hasn't yet been captain for a year and won in India and won the Ashes, how many England Captains have done that? Vs Clarke 8 defeats in 9 tests including 4 in India and 3 in England, how many Australian captains have done that?

I think it depends what you want someone who is well respected and brings his team together liked by all and makes a plan before a test begins and sticks to it, or someone who is disliked by man if his fellow professionals and constantly changes his approach depending on what is happening.

One gets results the other doesn't.

Cook will only better and
