marko Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 Aleem Dar is umpiring with 4 stumps and Tony Hill can't spot the most obvious LBW of all time. Shambolic stuff. I think Dar was umpiring with another set for that Lyon decision. Great ball by Harris to dismiss Root.
Brainy Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 Would you rather score 50 every innings or score 10-20 with the odd big century? Dropping Compton was stupid. Not questioning Root's place in the side nor his potential as an opener in the future but this is too early.
leicsmac Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 Root fails again. Bradman would have gotten out to that ball. Unplayable. Just goes to show when the form dips the bad luck follows too.
purpleronnie Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 Bradman would have gotten out to that ball. Unplayable. Well he is the new bradman....apparantly. so that does work. Just got to work on the averages a bit.

Don't think he's being hyped up that much, hope not anyway. TBH we've missed a truly class opening partnership since Tresco and Strauss, no Sehwag-style player to stand and hit the new ball, that being said it's not really affected the fortunes of the side as a whole, has it? But I do think Root should be given time and patience - he's definitely one for the future.

Believe it or not, our most successful opening partnership (playing a minimum of 5 Tests together) in terms of average since 1962 is Cook and Compton. Strauss and Trescothick were certainly a formidable pairing at the top of the order.
marko Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 Cook and Strauss were a decent opening pair. In terms of runs scored, they're our most successful opening pairing in Test cricket.
AKCJ Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 You can't blame Root for his wicket today. An absolute scorcher of a delivery.
Swarles Barkley Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 Play slow lose wickets, play with aggression lose wickets. Top order has been nothing short of awful this ashes series
marko Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 Oh dear... We could certainly do with a big score from KP and Bell.
davieG Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 Looks like the fact we've already 'won' the Ashes has got into their heads and the motivation/will to win has evaporated.
Brainy Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 Tom Fordyce, BBC chief sports writer at Chester-le-Street Since the first Test at Trent Bridge, England have been forced to rebuild every single one of their innings after losing early wickets early on. At Lord's they were 28-3 in the first innings and 30-3 in the second; at Old Trafford 64-3 and 27-3. While the third wicket in the first innings here didn't fall until 149 runs were on the board, the next five went down for just 49 runs. No-one should be surprised that they were three down again in this second innings with less than 50 runs on the board
purpleronnie Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 Back out after less than 10mins, what a waste of time, hopefully it won't upset the batsmen too much.
Captain... Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 Played Belly Great series so far from Bell, 3 centuries 2 half centuries, top run scorer in the series, I really hope he can push on and turn it into a bigger score tomorrow, can't knock 2 scores of 109, but for both you kind of felt he got his tons relaxed and got out.

Yeah, would love him to turn one into a 150-200 or even more. In all fairness his 1st test 109 was probably because he knew he was going to run out of partners pretty quickly, which might be his downfall again this time round.

Search on google for wiziwig, they post streams for most sporting events, click on live sports then cricket, then follow the link to all the test match streams. Alternatively go straight to nutjobs.eu that might be with a z, and select their sky sports 2 stream.
