marko Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Once again another poor decision from the umpire, normally you give the benefit of the doubt to the person batting, but for some strange reason now they give it to the bowler! Eh?! Root clearly edged it.
Guest MattP Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Once again another poor decision from the umpire, normally you give the benefit of the doubt to the person batting, but for some strange reason now they give it to the bowler! He hit the cover off it! You could tell it was out from the original noise, it's just Tony Hill is the worst umpire going.
purpleronnie Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Just wondering what peoples view on root are? if they had caught him on 8 before he made 180 his scores would be:- 16, 8, 13* 6, 9, 30, 5,
marko Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 He hit the cover off it! You could tell it was out from the original noise, it's just Tony Hill is the worst umpire going. I thought we'd seen umpiring hit rock bottom with Billy 'not out' Doctrove, but Tony Hill is giving him a run for his money.
Leicesterpool Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Eh?! Root clearly edged it. It looked more of his leg pad, but again it wasn't clear!
ScouseFox Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Just wondering what peoples view on root are? if they had caught him on 8 before he made 180 his scores would be:- 16, 8, 13* 6, 9, 30, 5, But they didn't... If they'd have dropped him/missed on 16, 8, 6, 9, 30, 5 his scores could've been:- 180, 180, 180, 180, 180, 180, 180.
marko Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 It looked more of his leg pad, but again it wasn't clear! Nowhere near his pad. Definite nick and I was amazed it wasn't given out on the field.
Guest MattP Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Just wondering what peoples view on root are? if they had caught him on 8 before he made 180 his scores would be:- 16, 8, 13* 6, 9, 30, 5, He's also had two dud decisions where he wasn't out, for all we know he could have made 170 again after those. Wonderful talent, will be a superb opener for years. Most kids haven't played county cricket by his age. I thought we'd seen umpiring hit rock bottom with Billy 'not out' Doctrove, but Tony Hill is giving him a run for his money. He was bad, I still think Darryl Hair is the worst I've seen, anyone remember Steve Bucknor? His automatic reaction was too shake his head when an appeal came, I swear it used to wake him up.
Guest MattP Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 It looked more of his leg pad, but again it wasn't clear! It was a huge edge, you saw the ball move, there was a even mark on hot spot and that isn't working properly. The sound was only a sound of a edge.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 [MOCKERS] This pitch looks made for Chef to score big.[/MOCKERS]
Bert Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 But they didn't... If they'd have dropped him/missed on 16, 8, 6, 9, 30, 5 his scores could've been:- 180, 180, 180, 180, 180, 180, 180. There's a huge difference between could've Nd would've though.
ScouseFox Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 There's a huge difference between could've Nd would've though. There's an equally huge difference between "would've" and "actually did happen", too.
purpleronnie Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 There's an equally huge difference between "would've" and "actually did happen", too. true, so he got one good score out of 7 then.
leicsmac Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Agree that Root hasn't exactly set the world on fire as an opener thus far, but he's a name for the future and the best sides are ones that don't chop and change that often. I think he should be given more time.
goose2010 Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Drop root to 6 in the order, take out Bairstow and bring back Nick Compton to open with cook.
theessexfox Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 It looked more of his leg pad, but again it wasn't clear!
Lasty Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Root's alright, albeit a bit cocky. I don't see him as an opener, mind.
I am Rod Hull Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Root will open for England for the next 10+ years.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 I think Root needs to play his shots. His game isn't like Cook's, he seems to get out a lot when he drops anchor.
purpleronnie Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 will open for England for the next 10+ years. sounds like my ex girlfriend.
Corky Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 The way people were speaking on here you would have thought we had gone in 8 down at 12 rather than 3 down at lunch. We were still favourites to save that test with a full two sessions ahead wen Lyon would have been doing the work later on. Onto today, good toss to win, chance for the openers to make scores. It's fantastic that Australia are taking so much comfort from a draw where they were still some way from winning. How the mighty have fallen.
Captain... Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 true, so he got one good score out of 7 then. 1 great score, 1 not out, a decent knock of 30 in the first test his first time opening for England and did the job in taking up the new ball, an openers role is to take up the new ball you could argue he did that today by taking up over an hour of the new ball. Being an opener is not just about coming in and scoring quick, opening is a specialised position because it is one of the hardest jobs and Root showed that once he survives the difficult opening spell he has the ability to score big. The facts are facts, and only Clarke and Bell have scored more runs in the series. If we are looking at Root it is also worth mentioning his 3 wickets so far this series, in just 13 overs, more wickets than Agar, Lyon, Finn, Watson, who have all bowled a hell of a lot more than him. As for bringing Compton back, I think we would be better served sticking with Root, he can go on and be an opener for England for another 10 years, he may struggle a bit at the start but it will all be for the best in the long run, look at Bell in 2005 series, was young and inexperienced and was exposed, but he learnt from that and has gone on to be a great batsman.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Average first innings total at The Riverside in county matches this season is about 260ish.
purpleronnie Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Average first innings total at The Riverside in county matches this season is about 260ish. Can't really compare the 2 though. Decent start on a slow looking wicket.
