AnotherShitSeason Posted 11 July 2013 Posted 11 July 2013 Mildly exciting start. Bucket loads of misplaced optimism on here. Mainly brought on by too many sweets. Quickly revert to type. Then bottom 6 by October. Initial buoyancy at KP returning to dour atmosphere peppered by bloke half heartedly hitting a drum. Smattering of rubbish goal celebrations. Frequently mocked & out sung by away fans. Lots of early leavers. F Bar takings up by 9% over financial year.
Guest Col city fan Posted 11 July 2013 Posted 11 July 2013 I'm genuinely still of the mind-set that I'm not bothered. Having had a great week away in the sun in the SW, all things City is just not on my mind. However, given current circumstances...7th Lets give Pearson a chance and simply see. One thing I am expecting is a bit of a reversal on last season. I think we might start slowly then pick up momentum. I think it's important that the Thais stick with Pearson if we indeed do start slowly.
lgfualol Posted 11 July 2013 Posted 11 July 2013 Mid table, probably top half easily. I'm getting a bit.. anxious about what Nigel is thinking. We're doing **** all to strengthen the team.
Legend_in_blue Posted 11 July 2013 Posted 11 July 2013 It's not about the squad of players, it's all about Pearson. If he continues to adopt a cautious approach, we will be going nowhere. The belief was sucked out of the players once Pearson went into default defensive cautious predictable Pearson and by a stroke of luck he even still managed to make a playoff spot. We have the personnel, this is not the issue, tactically we are severely limited under Pearson imo. Let's see if he changes this season.
Guest Posted 11 July 2013 Posted 11 July 2013 Continued pessimism, misery and WUM related activities from DT, Anothershitseason and seenitall are a certainty. Football wise, top 6 I'd hope for.

Given that NFP is clearly staying and our finances mean we can do nothing substantial in the way of strengthening the squad, changing the way we play is just about our only option. Maybe NFP will give it a try, after all he got us playing some good stuff early last season, no real reason why he can't do it again but will he?

I can see your point but you'd like to think that the Forest & Bolton displays would be a huge lesson to him.
Monsell1976 Posted 11 July 2013 Posted 11 July 2013 Hope/ expect promotion by whichever means, but like alot of others think without additions this will not happen. What I can see happening is a inconsistent start, steady Christmas, then drop off after, hold on that's last season, but expect pretty much the same, that's if the squad stays the same, just not enough quality throughout the squad.

There was a whole host of reasons why we fell away last season. You have correctly identified one but there was more than that. Pearson isn't the only one who started to change and fall apart.
Xen Posted 11 July 2013 Posted 11 July 2013 Top 10. Hard to say where though. If I had to narrow it down I'd say 5th-8th.

Pearson isn't the only one who started to change and fall apart.Another is playing the players out of position, I.e strikers as wide men/ wingers, nugent, Kane looked like ducks out of water at times, and they all need to resolve the crisis in confidence issue quicker, I am sure it will happen again, all teams/ players have dips in form/ confidence, but they need to have learnt from last season
nlukka Posted 11 July 2013 Posted 11 July 2013 IMO, Reading, Bolton and Wigan look strong bets for the top 6. That leaves 3 spaces and about 8-9 teams, including us, trying to get one of those spots. Won't be easy but not beyond us by any means. I'm hoping that our young team have learnt from last year and can come back stronger. My only major concern is the lack of strength in depth, which if the squad stays as it is right now, will catch up with us by the end of the season.
Harry - LCFC Posted 12 July 2013 Posted 12 July 2013 Just because we have not signed any players, many people assume mid table and a mediocre season. I agree the pre season is dull without much transfer activity but it does not mean we are going backwards. Didn't really work when we signed loads of player (Martin Allen, Sven etc) so it could work to our advantage to have a settled squad. As several people have pointed out we have some very good young players who can and should improve and I fully expect us to be in the playoffs at least. We all know we had a shocker towards the end of the season but at times played some amazing stuff with these players (who I expect to get better). Pearson will get them fit and fired up for this season. Yes, it would be nice for a few signings but people are over reacting as its been a quiet close season. Indeed. I find it odd that people assume that a summer of few signings means the team has regressed. It actually makes sense to say that we'll be slightly stronger next season, a very young squad will have learnt much from last season and should be better for it. The prospect of carrying the same squad over from one season to another is also one I quite like.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 12 July 2013 Posted 12 July 2013 I expect us to make a serious challenge for the top 6 at least providing we keep the same squad. Our team last season was excellent at times and I'm hoping that we'll come back from the negative experiences of falling from 2nd to 8th and Watford away, learn from it and use it to motivate you during the coming season. If we could sign a decent CB to go alongside Morgan and maybe another LB (if Konch isn't quite as good this season) then I think we ought to have a real go. The problem may well be a lack of strength in depth given that we're unlikely to be able to add to the squad.

ithuriel Posted 12 July 2013 Posted 12 July 2013 Mid table with the possibility of a play off place if things go well for us, not a chance of a top two finish.
jamesmilner Posted 12 July 2013 Posted 12 July 2013 finishing 6th after a poor poor run , anything is possible . whats danns attitude like ? whats st ledgers influence going to be when he returns ? theres a few factors that can change things for the right or wrong reasons ? beckford saga not done and dusted , ffp ,etc, etc . its really a question of many answers .
The Year Of The Fox Posted 12 July 2013 Posted 12 July 2013 **** me we are a bunch of miserable ***** on here aren't we? Born Blue has it right. We will be fine this season if we can keep everyone fit. Teams couldn't handle us at times last season. We threw the automatics away, other teams didnt win it. That will not happen again. They wont allow themselves to get in that position to **** it up again

And think 'once again' this will prove to be a massive mistake... ...Hope I am wrong and we have our best season in 13 years playing attacking, free flowing football.

Wigan, Bolton, Reading all making good signings to an already decent squad, Leeds and forest will be in the mix aswell, Watford look like they will retain most of the players that they finished third with. QPR haven't lost many players yet, Blackburn with a bit of stability this year will be stronger. We are still in need of 3 or 4 new additions, but due to FFP we can't do that without getting rid of the deadwood. There's hardly going to be many takers for the likes of Wellens, Danns and Gallagher due to the supposedly high wages they are on. Without them gone will we be able to add to the squad? Hopefully Pearson and the players will have learned from their mistakes last season and we push on and have a season like Cardiff & Reading did when they failed in the playoffs.

Hopefully Pearson and the players will have learned from their mistakes last season and we push on and have a season like Cardiff & Reading did when they failed in the playoffs. Look at what happened last season. There were several teams who realistically could've finished above us (some of them eventually did) We have a top top squad here and players key like James won't need time to settle in this season. Honestly, if we hit the ground running and players that were a bit non existent AT TIMES last season (Drinkwater Marshall) turn up then we will do very well. The above teams you've mentioned will fear us as much as we fear them. Teams coming down from the Prem often underperform and their big name players seem unable to take the physical nature of the Championship. This thread just seems like another opportunity for the more negative fans to turn up and make it an anti Pearson thread again. And for what's it's worth I think Danns may be in with a chance of getting into the team again this season.

ozleicester Posted 12 July 2013 Posted 12 July 2013 well... NP has certainly taken care of those "delusions of granduer"
