Guest MattP Posted 27 September 2013 Posted 27 September 2013 Put opinions of his personal misdemeanors aside and I think it's impossible to say that Ashley Cole hasn't been / still isn't world class. He's arguably been the best and most consistent left back in world football for a decade. Only if you haven't watched Phillip Lahm play a lot.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 27 September 2013 Posted 27 September 2013 Only if you haven't watched Phillip Lahm play a lot. Hence "arguably."
Stadt Posted 27 September 2013 Posted 27 September 2013 Gibbs is having a solid season, surely worth a try in a friendly - Cole was/is a decent left back but the best in the world? Bale is the best left back in the world
Bert Posted 27 September 2013 Posted 27 September 2013 Phillip Lahm on either flank > Ashley Cole.Right back yes. Left back, no. Appaling shout.
Finnegan Posted 27 September 2013 Posted 27 September 2013 Right back yes. Left back, no. Appaling shout. ... because he suddenly becomes a terrible player playing on the side of the pitch he's picked up about a hundred caps on?
Bert Posted 27 September 2013 Posted 27 September 2013 ... because he suddenly becomes a terrible player playing on the side of the pitch he's picked up about a hundred caps on?Didn't say he was a terrible player. Just that he's not as good as Cole at left back.
Long Eaton Fox Posted 27 September 2013 Posted 27 September 2013 Despite being an excellent left back coles attacking play lets him down. He looks good but nothing ever comes of it. How about playing both with baines on the left side of midfield. Who else is their
Finnegan Posted 27 September 2013 Posted 27 September 2013 Didn't say he was a terrible player. Just that he's not as good as Cole at left back. Fair play, mate. You're allowed to be wrong sometimes.
Bert Posted 27 September 2013 Posted 27 September 2013 Fair play, mate. You're allowed to be wrong sometimes. That's the good thing about opinions. They're never wrong!

How about playing both with baines on the left side of midfield. Who else is their That's the one big criticism you could have of Cole's play, for someone who gets into the oppositions box as much as he does his assist tally and final delivery is a lot of the time absolutely appalling. Lahm a better left back than Cole You think Bayern would ever have swopped him for Cole? Not a chance.
Finnegan Posted 28 September 2013 Posted 28 September 2013 Lahm a better left back than Cole Putting a smiley because you haven't got an argument.
The People's Hero Posted 28 September 2013 Posted 28 September 2013 Lahm and Cole both absolutely superb in fairness. Technically strong and supreme athletes. Fair point about cole's final Delivery some times but remember he's often ran 80 yards to get there and he is always an option.
ScouseFox Posted 28 September 2013 Posted 28 September 2013 Putting a smiley because you haven't got an argument. Because there is no argument . Nah in all fairness Lahm is boss and it'd be a close run thing if I thought about it properly but over the past 10 years he's not been a better left back than Cole. Nobody has. There's been a proper shortage of decent left backs since about 2000 but in Cole we have one who would walk into most squads playing most styles of football no worries. He's a terrific player and if he wasn't such a cúnt he'd be up there with people like Beckham etc as a national hero.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 28 September 2013 Posted 28 September 2013 Bet you're loving that eh Finnegan?
Finnegan Posted 28 September 2013 Posted 28 September 2013 Glad for Ramsey and glad he's in my dream team but sadly I also have Rangel and Williams!!!
The Year Of The Fox Posted 29 September 2013 Posted 29 September 2013 Williams didn't play at all so you're ok there.
Stadt Posted 29 September 2013 Posted 29 September 2013 Rangel cost Swansea £10,000, now he's a steady premiership player worth probably 2/3 million
Hugo Sanchez Posted 29 September 2013 Author Posted 29 September 2013 Ramsey best player on the pitch yesterday and what a great finish. On CURRENT form as to be one of the best players in the world atm.

Bobby Hundreds Posted 30 September 2013 Posted 30 September 2013 Ramsey best player on the pitch yesterday and what a great finish. On CURRENT form as to be one of the best players in the world atm. In the world? Maybe London.
Finnegan Posted 4 October 2013 Posted 4 October 2013 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24400297 Can't hack the pressure of playing in Ramsey's shadow.
Strokes Posted 5 October 2013 Posted 5 October 2013 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24400297 Can't hack the pressure of playing in Ramsey's shadow. Wilshire is overrated, born with a chip on his shoulder.
