DennisNedry Posted 6 October 2013 Posted 6 October 2013 Sounds like you spend a lot of time in Brixton, Handsworth, Moss Side, St Annes etc. I don't see what racism has got to do with that.
fleckneymike Posted 6 October 2013 Posted 6 October 2013 How is obesity a choice? A close friend of ours eats a vegetarian diet, doesn't drink or smoke, and exercises 3 times a week but Is still classed as overweight! You really have no idea, she suffers terribly behind closed doors and given her age her parents are worried about her, it's people like you that cause this anxiety! Tw@t Overweight and obese are two entirely different weight classifications. I would suggest that the overwhelming majority of people classified as 'obese' are neither vegetarians or regular gym visitors. Diet and a sedentary lifestyle are the two main contributory factors. If your close friend is classed as obese despite exercising 3 times a week and eating only a vegetarian diet then I would suggest she also secretly eats and therefore takes on board too many calories. Quite how I am responsible for her weight is a slight mystery as my post clearly stated I wasn't advocating hounding those with larger frame. I am sorry you have chosen to be offended by my assertion that obesity is a choice but I stand by that statement. People choose to take on more calories than they require, people choose to eat an 'unhealthy' snack/drink just as people choose to go to the gym, eat fruit and veg and drink only water. Obesity is an increasing problem in the West and 99.99999999% of those who are obese don't find themselves in that position because they adopt a vegetarian lifestyle and go to the gym. I hope your friend is successful in losing what ever weight she wishes and that what ever accompanying issues she may have can be resolved but I am not responsible for her ills.
fleckneymike Posted 6 October 2013 Posted 6 October 2013 This is the difficulty with the PC world (as in politically correct not the sister store of Currys (As in the electrical store not the Indian food)). I thought that "half cast" was now deemed to be a racist way to say of "mixed race" or "mulatto"???? Offensive not racist. I believe it is the use of 'caste' which is problematic. The word derives from the latin 'castus' meaning pure, and was never used exclusively to categorise any one group which is why it is difficult to claim it is racist.
hackneyfox Posted 6 October 2013 Posted 6 October 2013 My mate's son is ginger and gets a load of grief over it. Some kid told him he should be in a camp, my mate's son hit him. Fair play to him and the guy who twatted the racist yesterday, because that is what he was, you should always pull up racists, whatever colour they are. Allow them to get away with it and you end up with 'call me the shoe bomber', can't believe people thought that showed humour.

A lot of people are obese because of stress, illness, disability etc. A lot of people who are obese don't want to be obese so it can't really be defined so readily as a choice.
fleckneymike Posted 6 October 2013 Posted 6 October 2013 A lot of people are obese because of stress, illness, disability etc. A lot of people who are obese don't want to be obese so it can't really be defined so readily as a choice. A lot of people are also thin because of stress. An estimated 20% of the UK population are obese. Rates have risen 3 fold since the 80's. If 'stress' were such a contributory factor then levels of obesity would remain roughly static. Bad diet and a lack of exercise cause obesity. A bad diet and a lack of exercise are largely a matter of choice. We all know what the unhealthy foods are, we choose to eat them.
ADK Posted 6 October 2013 Posted 6 October 2013 It's not that simple really. Most people work in offices, sat at a desk for most of the day. People are bombarded with adverts showing high calorie food as a source of stress relief (how often does a chocolate advert show a morbidly obese woman scoffing their product as oppose to a sexy young model?). Exercise often costs a lot of money and/or time.
Captain... Posted 6 October 2013 Posted 6 October 2013 I'm not saying you're wrong, but why can't black be used just as an adjective? Because of the decades of institutionalised racism in our recent history, and still very prevalent in the modern world, as people have said hundreds of years ago gingers were persecuted and even now there is still a bit of a hang over from it, with them being picked on, so it may take a few hundred more years before black is just an adjective to describe skin colour and nothing more, but while people in this world still discriminate by skin colour or ethnicity then "black" when used in a negative context will not be just an adjective

We live in such a nanny state that anything bad is always someone else's fault not our own. Fat people are fat because they make poor lifestyle choices - that's their fault noone else's.

Exercise often costs a lot of money and/or time. No it doesn't. Running, walking are both essentially free forms of exercise yet people choose not to do them. Again people over estimate the influence of the media. We know these foods are bad for us, we know other foods are good for us, we choose badly. If the media and advertising were so influential we'd buy all fatty foods not just certain brands. We're always so willing to abdicate personal responsibility and seek justification for our own failings. In the overwhelming majority of cases being overweight or obese are through poor personal choices.

Mentally sound adults should be able to take responsibility for what they eat, no matter what those crafty advertisers try. Exercising is free. If you can't make time to exercise then to be honest you've only got yourself to blame. An hour a week is all it takes.
ADK Posted 6 October 2013 Posted 6 October 2013 Exercising an hour a week isn't going to stop someone getting fat. We are consuming less calories than we were 30 years ago but more people are fat. Lifestyle is the biggest factor and people only have partial control over that.
BoneDog Posted 6 October 2013 Posted 6 October 2013 Does anybody know if 'Racist Man' learnt his lesson and changed his ways or has he joined the EDL out of anger and humiliation?
Strokes Posted 6 October 2013 Posted 6 October 2013 You could say being obese is a form of mental illness, its self abuse after all. You really can't decide who we can and can't discriminate against. you either ban the whole damn thing or just accept some people have potty mouths and lighten up a touch. Talking about what happens in previous generations doesn't really help either Its decisive, how long must we apologise for it?
ozleicester Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 Good old wandering threads on foxes talk facts - Racism is bad! - (I think we all agree that is correct?) Racism has no place at football - (I think we all agree that is correct?) Violence is bad - (I think we all agree that is correct?) Violence has no place at football - (I think we all agree that is correct?) Dont be racist, If you are aware of racist behavior report it to the appropriate authorities. Dont be violent, If you are aware of violent behavior report it to the appropriate authorities.

Having made the" shoe bomber" post I was just making sure you understood ,which I think you did, that my post was not meant to be humorous ,but more the fact that such a nickname given to himself as an ethnic minority( in my area) was in fact stupidity and really doesn't help combat racism.i don't personally know the guy,so I don't know if he is generally stupid, trying to be funny with a sick sense of humour or has a strange" if you can't beat them, join them" mentality after having to put up with abuse.
MooseBreath Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 In my experience the vast majority of non-whites find white hypersensitivity quite funny and often quite bemusing, there are also some who see it as patronising which is how I think I would feel if I was in their position. It's very common for a non-white to use racial language in jest. If some of these white middle class liberals actually came into contact with a few non-whites they'd be amazed. "Oooooh how fascinating, these little ethnics have learned to think for themselves and have even developed a sense of humour. Gosh one of these days they won't even need me to protect them."
hackneyfox Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 I think that's brilliant. People lose their sense of humour sometimes and its good when stuff like this happens. Having made the" shoe bomber" post I was just making sure you understood ,which I think you did, that my post was not meant to be humorous ,but more the fact that such a nickname given to himself as an ethnic minority( in my area) was in fact stupidity and really doesn't help combat racism.i don't personally know the guy,so I don't know if he is generally stupid, trying to be funny with a sick sense of humour or has a strange" if you can't beat them, join them" mentality after having to put up with abuse. hackneyfox Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 Well if you read the comment above you might. It's pretty irrelevant either way now isn't it? Black people are actually prospering nowadays. What with all their terrible rap music being lapped up by the masses, especially the younger the generation. A lot of black footballers fill the Premier League and are idolized. They don't have it rough in this country. It's also naivety to think something like that can't slip out when you're angry. He was probably pissed and very annoyed (much like a lot of fans would have been I know) and I'm sure he just wanted to offend the bloke on the other team. That doesn't mean he's a racist, just that he was using racist terminology in a poorly thought out attempt to get back at someone. Should it have been condemned? Yes. But if you condone violent retribution for something like that you're opening a huge can of worms, setting a precedent, slippery slope, etc. Where do you draw the line at verbal insults? Certain people might shrug racial abuse off but get offended by different things. Do you condone it every time someone might be offended? Where do you start with a post like this that is just plain wrong?
sylofox Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 This. It's the reality. Banning racist words doesn't beat racism and anyone who thinks it does hasn't got a clue. Banning anything to do with racism just creates more hate from the racists. It also forces it further underground and we will never be rid of it. The banning of the Y word to a point is a joke as the spurs fan's refeer to themselves as Yd's. Praps sometimes it should just be ignored once they get no reaction they will get bored of it like little children.

Only 5% of Spurs fans are actually Jewish, David Baddiel likened it to a team in Brixton having 95% white support who refer to themselves as N Army. Certain fans make hissing noises when playing Tottenham, it shouldn't be ignored.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 I appreciated that you didn't find it humerous, someone else did though. Am i supposed to apologise for this now?
Kitchandro Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 Where do you start with a post like this that is just plain wrong? You can start by trying to prove it's wrong and actually offer a decent counter argument. I haven't heard one yet.
hackneyfox Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 Am i supposed to apologise for this now? Do whatever you want, can you not see that it is a defense against racists not humerous in the slightest.
The Don Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 I think a lot has to do with the whole adjective thing, it sort of rolls of the tongue better if for example you called peter crouch a ****ing lanky ginger tw*t. you can really get into it. whereas calling him a tw*t would be over so much quicker that you're anger doesnt dissapate. When calling someone, it seems almost imperitive to use an adjective or 2 for this very reason and the obvious things, like height, weight, hair colour are easy adjectives to use. Not that its right, in the heat of the moment a person may use an inappropriate adjective to descibe someone without the intension to offend.
