Bugg Posted 13 October 2013 Posted 13 October 2013 You just can't go around calling people builders I'm afraid. KS3 history contains several examples of builders being mistreated. Calling people builders in this day and age carries clear racist connotations and is all the evidence I need to declare Chiles a secret member of the KKK. Skin him alive, the evil scum. lol !!!
The People's Hero Posted 13 October 2013 Posted 13 October 2013 I can't decide whether to be more pretend outraged about this or about the imams story. It's important to be seen to be outraged though, isn't it? I hope something genuinely outrageous happens soon so I can stop pretending and remember what genuine outrage is.

mhs123 Posted 13 October 2013 Posted 13 October 2013 It is just banter,he should know better but there is no malice in it.
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 13 October 2013 Posted 13 October 2013 Ironic thing is that there probably will be a hell of a lot of Poles there, more so than many other away teams bring. Fact.
The People's Hero Posted 13 October 2013 Posted 13 October 2013 This isn't a sufficient level of uproar. Are you all racists? THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT
The People's Hero Posted 13 October 2013 Posted 13 October 2013 Is it really racist if there is no negative type slur? ie the following is racist 'Poles are dirty', 'Poles are lazy', 'Poles love nothing more than a fight in the town centre after a few too many Tyskies, they are a violent race'. The following are not racist: 'A lot of Poles in England are builders' (not all) 'There are a lot of Poles in England' 'A lot of people from the sub-continent run restaurants/takeaways/convenience/clothing shops/manufacture (especially in Leicester)' (not all) 'A lot of Australians work in bars in London' (not all) And how about: 'A lot of jewish people work in the transaction/provision/serving/sale of products/services within the financial services industry' Are these not just observations which can probably be shown to be true?
SystonFox Posted 13 October 2013 Posted 13 October 2013 He goes in and out of Catherine Tate - he took her off a member of Take That. An unashamed West Midlander who supports an unfashionable club. A fat dude with geek tendencies made good. And, as an ITV football person, he's not Roy Keane, Andy Townsend or Gareth Southgate. What's not to like? Frankly, if he blacked up, mocked the holocaust and dropped the N-bomb whilst doing a poo on a map of Poland wearing a Hitler moustache, he's still a better human being than the rest of the talentless know-nothing shitebags employed by ITV's so-called football coverage. Crack on, Chilo... Post of the year
AlphaMaleFox Posted 13 October 2013 Posted 13 October 2013 It is just banter,he should know better but there is no malice in it. It's so good, that Poles in the UK are white, Christian-backgrounded Europeans. Easy target for 'banter' these days...
bovril Posted 13 October 2013 Posted 13 October 2013 I doubt any Poles would be worried about it. Complete non story. I think the most offensive thing was that he felt had to defend himself by saying his Mum is Croatian. Above poster has something of point though... I doubt he would have said "I bet India will bring a lot to this game in Leicester, great cos I fancied a vindaloo". The shit storm would be huge. Poles are a 'softer' target let's say.
Vlad the Fox Posted 13 October 2013 Posted 13 October 2013 Maybe he did have polish builders going round???
Matt Posted 13 October 2013 Posted 13 October 2013 Maybe he did have polish builders going round??? He did, it says that in his apology.
cambridgefox Posted 13 October 2013 Posted 13 October 2013 For Christ sake.Think some people look out for any slight comment and jump in with the " look at me,I'm such a good citizen and better than most"I'm more worried about the people who think this is a racist comment. Now if you look at my comments in the"racism at Doncaster" you will see I agreed that guy was bang out of order. This though, anyone who thinks that comment was racist.Really?go on a march or something, preferably in the rain. Before you give me the racist tag.Due to my work ,visiting many industries I probably speak to and work with more polish than most on here and they work twice as hard as most. One group of lads in the summer sparked up the BBQ ( at lunchtime)with their delicious sausages( try them) and we had a right laugh. Will ask them what they think, but I suspect we will have a right laugh again, mainly at calling AC a racist and the overreaction on here. This is why real racists probably get away with comments as people band the word around too often for minor/ silly comments.
Jace Posted 13 October 2013 Posted 13 October 2013 Is being called a builder now an offensive term? It was a inappropriate stereotypical joke that has offended and he has apologised should be the end of it, is as about as racist as the 'you're just a small town in Wales' chant at Bristol last season

The press have picked up on it and written a story in order or it to get shared on forums / social media and increase their traffic.
MooseBreath Posted 13 October 2013 Posted 13 October 2013 Is being called a builder now an offensive term?I think that's the idea. 'Builders' are stereotyped as being a bit rough and thick. So if you're offended by Chiles comments what you're really saying is "I believe all builders are thick cvnts and by saying lots of a polish people become builders you are implying that lots of Polish people are thick cvnts", which is itself of course a lot more offensive towards builders than Chiles comments were towards Poles. The further irony being that most skilled tradesman in construction are of far higher societal value and earn a shed load more money than your average liberal arts graduate working as a starbucks barista or pointless marketing department pen pusher who complain about this sort of thing will ever earn. Just another example of the 'social justice warriors' getting themselves in a bit of a mess.

It's just another non-story designed to get people ranting about pc-gone-mad and shift a few newspapers / increase website traffic. Better to just ignore it right?
The Year Of The Fox Posted 13 October 2013 Posted 13 October 2013 With people complaining to ITV via Twitter Friday night there clearly IS a story behind it whether we like it or not. A couple of absolute morons complain and a bloke is having to issue an apology. Certainly not a none story if you ask me.

Bettsj2 Posted 13 October 2013 Posted 13 October 2013 Dear god, even his controversies are boring. Hahahaha!!!

I think it started with people complaining about it on Twitter and then got picked up by the media. But you are right of course it is a non-story, much like the vast majority of supposed 'racist' accusations are in this country.
Strokes Posted 13 October 2013 Posted 13 October 2013 Im all for a bit of adrian chiles bashing but come on, racist, really? Proof we should stop caring what upsets a few in the minority, and stop being so sensitive. Im not even sure I know what racist is anymore or even care.
Tielemans63 Posted 13 October 2013 Posted 13 October 2013 I'm appalled at his comments. He should know better, his mum is Croatian and everyone knows that Croats are war-mongering, arms-dealing, chain-smoking savages
Mr.X Posted 13 October 2013 Posted 13 October 2013 I don't see what's wrong with what he said, Polish builders do a great job, they're reliable and he could have given polish builders good publicity.
