davieG Posted 8 November 2013 Posted 8 November 2013 I think your wrong matey but it is all opinions I know. The way football has gone is down to the money men getting into the game. Though many people love Sky, it is the Sky money that has helped finance the game to the point where international business men look at investing in English clubs. This has led to the gentrification of the game as they try to change the complexion of the supporters, through increasing ticket price and pushing merchandise. There has therefore been a reduction in the working class/young male fanbase, meaning the singing sections have been shrinking in size. Well I don't think the fact that as a football fan I'm seen as a potential criminal and treated like one has anything to do with the game being gentrifiedby sky etc. We've actually gone from it being a good afternoon out where you could vent your spleen sing some songs in support of your team, have a laugh all whilst standing up to now where you have to sit down and shut up or else you'll get a banning order, herded round like cattle, reserved seating etc. Frankly going to the football has pretty much turned to shit and I put most of the blame on the mindless, selfish mobs who thought that kicking the shit out of someone was somehow supporting their team.

Kitchandro Posted 8 November 2013 Posted 8 November 2013 With Davie on this. I'm sure for some people a good scrap was a bit of a laugh, and I'd be lying if I said it doesn't make me smirk when I hear how football used to be, it just seems ridiculous to a person my age. No doubt the atmosphere was more intense, and maybe that was partly to do with the hooliganism. But the bigger picture is football fans have been screwed over in the last 20 years and it has been allowed because of the violence in the years before. So younger fans especially have a right to look upon the firms with disdain; it's because of them that those under 25 have never really experienced the classic football experience. People say all seaters were brought in because of Hillsborough - in fact this is a myth. Hillsborough was merely the perfect excuse for the authorities to bring in all seater stadiums and control the fans in an attempt to stop violence. This more than Sky's money has ruined it for fans.

iancognito Posted 9 November 2013 Posted 9 November 2013 See I love the whole two tribes rivalry and there's nothing better than a few hundred lads taking the piss out of each other with a few songs & verbals on a Saturday afternoon but I just don't get the need to take it to a level of battering seven shades of shit out of someone to somehow give your team or your 'tribe' more glory. You think of Forest and City, great, we never lost the Kop, we never got battered but the club honours don't read Forest Honours: European Cup winners 1979/1980 League Champions 1978/1979 FA Cup: 1959 League Cup: 1978/1979/1989/1990 Leicester Honours: 2 League Cups and Never Had The Shit Kicked Out Of Us By Forest If you kicked someone's head in and you're proud of it, there's something wrong with you. Davie's right about the 70s and 80s troubles causing half the problems with modern football. When the moneymen formed the Premier League they worked hard to find a way to price out and eradicate the "scum" infesting their grounds. No standing stopped all the surges and charges across terraces, the higher prices priced out those who went for a scrap. They knew that people who love football would find the money to go and the ones who were there to kick off wouldn't pay £50 a time to do it. These days I can take my kids to a game, it might be more sterile but they won't see someone spitting teeth onto the floor in the name of 'glory'
Kitchandro Posted 9 November 2013 Posted 9 November 2013 Did anybody not know this already? Yes there are many deluded people out there. Check some of the recent threads about the family stand and safe standing etc.

Monsell1976 Posted 9 November 2013 Posted 9 November 2013 Reading comments over the last couple of hours, seems that those of us that were there loved it, most of the young 'uns wished they had been there, and a couple of limp wristed liberals have condemned us as mindless hooligans - perhaps they need a bloody good kicking (joke) , about right though
foxfanazer Posted 9 November 2013 Posted 9 November 2013 Are you gonna sit in some poxy office with a **** for a boss telling you what to do as you count your pennies trying to make ends meet in a country that's sinking into strikes and wars and at the end of the day you go home to your cosy little flat in 'nowheresville' and pull your IKEA curtains shut to hide from the big bad world and pretend it's not happening? Or are you gonna stand up and be counted, make a difference and feel the rush? Just for once say "**** it". I'm coiled up like a spring and I'm ready to burst and wanking ain't doing it anymore. I need violence to make me feel I'm still alive. I know what I'd rather do, mate. Tottenham away. Love it!

Fox92 Posted 9 November 2013 Posted 9 November 2013 Clough's Forest team were good, but not quite that good, they didn't win the league in 1979, Liverpool did And I believe we have three League Cups

Mack Posted 9 November 2013 Posted 9 November 2013 Either that or apologising for getting his knob out again. No need for that. From what I've read on here his old fella is hanging off his forehead for all to see.
smudger63 Posted 9 November 2013 Posted 9 November 2013 hooligans aren't football fans. Yes they are! I know a number of the older "football hooligans" from the past, and you will never meet more passionate and loyal fans of the club than them.

Guest MattP Posted 9 November 2013 Posted 9 November 2013 I can tell you exactly what happened. Forest arrived well before us koppites and took over the whole kop. Me and my mates (hinckley mob) went in the kop even though most of the regulars were dispersed around the ground. About 2pm we decided we'd better give it a go, so around 30 of us started singing City songs. Well, the place went mental, and all the regulars ran from all over the ground, across the pitch, and into the kop. There was then a 3 hour battle- I guess we won cos florist got pushed into the corner between kop and mainstand. One of the great sites, what seemed like thousands of city fans rampaging over the pitch to do battle with florist. Still get goose bumps just typing this up! My old man has told me this story. Absolutely awesome, I'd have loved to have been around in that era. At least you didn't need to worry about the horror that is adults in the family stand. lol
harpendenfox Posted 9 November 2013 Posted 9 November 2013 I'd much rather the atmosphere of today than the experience of watching Man Utd fans trying to kill policemen that I experienced coming away from Filbo in the 70s.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 9 November 2013 Posted 9 November 2013 Point of information: Wednesday 18th August 1971 - City 2, Forest 1 (att: 32,039). Headline one in the Merc: "Barron prevents rout". Headline two: "Fans on rampage in night of violence". Footy special from Nottingham with 600 on board, a goodly number alighting shouting "We want the Kop." Said Kop was invaded, cue mayhem. Forest fans were routed and ecsorted into the Filbert Street end of the ground. It was pretty grim outside afterwards. Great game, electric atmosphere, if somewhat, ahem, 'tense'. I was 14 at the time. The return fixture at the City Ground included city fans running the Forest fans all the way along the terrace which is now the Brian Clough Stand. Plus a last minute winner from the Birch. I'm not judging, just telling it like it was. sylofox Posted 9 November 2013 Posted 9 November 2013 hooligans aren't football fans. Thats like saying someone is a racist cos they don't eat curry. They might not be classed as good fans but still fans none the less. Always was an answer by good fans but was a load of shite.
