Keane v Vieira

Did anyone watch it?

Was on ITV. Just watched it. A fantastic program, would recommend it to any football fan if it's ever repeated... The clashes, of which I remember, still look great now. You just don't see it anymore.

A few things stood out to me. "Who was the best manager you played under?" Keane instantly replied "Brian Clough". I did think he'd say it to be fair. There were a few words about Ferguson as well, sounds like they don't like each other anymore at all. Good insight really into how Ferguson controlled the whole thing with Keane which obviously ended in Keane being released.

They both picked their greatest side for Arsenal and United, then had to combine and choose an ultimate team. Think it was harsh of Keane to leave out Giggs and especially Scholes, instead he chose Ince in central midfield while the wingers were Beckham and Ronaldo.

It just shows you big players. Keane said he hated Arsenal, which is a statement considering United's rivalry with City and Liverpool. I like to see that passion, fight and rivalry. I don't think there are many players like those two anymore, both aggressive and passionate yet great players.

Oh, and Keane said he went out to hurt players as that was his job (I get that), but said he'd never injure any player. Thought that question would make an appearance!

I went to the Barcelona and Madrid friendlies against Leicester, but I've always said, and still say, that Arsenal are the best team I've seen live. The resourceful Vieira, Pires, Cole, Henry and of course the magic of Bergkamp. The United/Arsenal fixtures are more 'respectful' these days, we haven't seen a battle such as Keane and Vieira since they both left their clubs.

(The telegraph has posted about it, but I can't seem to paste anything anymore).

I know people will say 'oh Keane was this and that', but he (and Vieira) are players every team needs. Fight, determination, leadership, passion, commitment. They were winners.

Keane said he'd never injure a player? Ask Alf Inge Haarland what he thinks about that quote.

As for the team I think it's fair to leave Giggs out when the replacement is Ronaldo, Scholes is harsh but Ince was a great player to have in the middle of the park.

I went to Highbury when we lost 6-0 with a pretty decent team, Tim Flowers got lobbed from about 5 yards was blown away with the quality that day. Great side to watch and I would say that team with Petit, Overmars, Bergkamp etc was the best in the history of the premier league.

Brilliant viewing I thought and it made me like Keane a little bit more. Just before the end they were right what they were saying that we don't have battles & rivalry like that anymore.

Also leaving Giggs out of his best eleven, "having a great career doesn't mean you are a great player - there's a big difference"

Also Keane when talking about Gary Neville being a weak link lol

Absolutely brilliant documentary. So many little sly digs from Keane at certain players and managers lol

Who's the best manager you've ever played for?

Keane: Brian Clough

Not Sir Alex?

Keane: You asked me a question and I answered it (icy stare)

Was interesting to see both Keane and Vieira in that sort of light, think they both came across reasonably well.

Didn't see the programme and wish I had.

Fergie chose Keane ahead of Neville for Man Utd captain. Why, exactly? That'd be an interesting question to get an answer to.

Keane: Unprepared to accept defeat under any circumstances? Commitment and strength of character without the inclination to have opinions of his own (unlike Neville, acting as shop steward for England players and not short of opinions - and very good ones - as an analyst/commentator these days)?

It's on the Itv Player if you can get that.

If I could choose one to have in our Leicester team I think I would have Roy Keane. He would demand the very best from everyone he plays with.

The answer isn't that outrageous to be honest, Clough won as many European Cups as Ferguson and managed Derby and Forest, I doubt you find a player who worked under Cloughie who wouldnt say he was the best man they ever played for.

(except Justin Fashanu)

Intimidation. Not only of the opposition but also of the officials.

And they got away with it for years somehow.

Was a decent watch.

they plan to do more including non sport ones.

starting with brown v blair even tho they were the same party they had such opposing views.

Well worth watching.

Never has a man been so completely and utterly motivated by hatred and anger as Roy Keane. I honestly think that without a sense of bitterness and resentment he'd find it hard to apply himself to do anything.

Although this was meant to be Keane v Vieira it was that only in name. The real subject was Keane v Ferguson and if Ferguson hadn't released his book I don't think this would have happened. Even down to picking his best 11 he couldn't just pick the best 11 players and had to make a point of picking those who challenged or fell out of favour with Ferguson.

Both came out of it fairly well though, even if we now know for sure that Keane is an absolute psychopath.

And took over both clubs in the second division. Incredible achievement really, just a shame it was at those clubs.

What that career ending injury he suffered that was all Roy Keane's fault, despite it being the knee Keane didn't hit. Haarlands a knob.

I prefer to think of his time at Leeds, watched the Damned United the other day, I'd already read the book, but the film was better (I rarely say that), just not sure how much was actually true.

Viera was always the superior footballer though.

Nah, you can stick that up your bollocks.

Keane was better.

Regardless of whether it ended his career or not, for Keane to state that he never deliberately injured a player is a lie, pure and simple. He put it in his autobiography that the tackle was pre-meditated.

Keane said he never intended to deliberately injure a player in the doc (I can't remember the actual wording in his autobiography and it might be different). He's not claiming he didn't injure anyone; just his intention was only to hurt them - not injure. It's subtle but there is a difference.

Didn't understand Paul Parker over Gary Neville.

I think Keane was trying to make a point in not picking Neville, Scholes and Giggs, them three are usually praised as Ferguson's favourites, which is fair enough, I guess every manager has them. Neville and Scholes should definitely have been in there, unsure of Giggs when it's in a straight shoot out v Ronaldo..

I loved the programme, gained a lot more respect for Keane, came out and spoke the truth, would of been easy to have back tracked and come out all Ferguson praising. People seem to forget Keane was Ferguson's captain for a very long time, Keane knew him better than most. Ferguson has always had that stubbornness about him, once anyone dared question him, he bombed them out.. Keane, Stam, Beckham, Van Nistelrooy and didn't Ronaldo leave under a dark cloud with Ferguson? Before he left he was going to allow Rooney to leave, if Ferguson was still there I don't think Rooney would be.

People were saying Keane came across bitter in this programme, I don't think that for one minute, I think he just defended himself and delivered a few low blows to the former manager who slated Keane and his former team mates, the same Roy Keane who captained Ferguson's side to his greatest triumph.

Just watched this earlier. Decent watch actuallyKeane scares me from the TV imagine how it would be playing football with him!

I agree. I'd shit myself playing alongside someone like him.

But they miss him more than any other player by a distance. They're a joke compared to the Keane years now.

Excellent watch. Well worth it.
