Monsell1976 Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 The fact of the matter is we are not good enough to maintain good performances and results over a season. I think we over rate our team, yes we have a few good players but a lot of average players, who cannot mix it when things are not going their way. Today is a perfect example, first half hour looked really good, then revert back to going through the motions. Results don't bother me if the performance is right, but today burnley should have been beaten convincingly, but that second have performance let us down again. I never thought I'd say this about a Pearson side but we are poor defensively, and haven't got strikers that can finish, until we start sorting the defensive issues, and get a striker that can finish, and put in performances for 90 minutes, we can forget about automatic promotion and hope for the playoffs.

Konch and RDL (minus passback) played well. Vardy worked hard but missed two clear cut chances. Nugent didn't do much. Our corners need to be whipped in, not floated. So frustrating. Knocky's decision-making second half was very poor. GTF held it up well when he came on. Kasper's save was excellent, kicking not so. We were very good first half, bang average second. did you see him score a penalty? and No Shit Sherlock! Yep, I saw him score a free shot from 12 yards earned by Vardy. So I'm not allowed to comment on how we played in each half? :xmasunsure:
Langston Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 I'd be inclined to agree with ttfn in some respects. I didn't think that we were as dominant in that first period as Sky insinuated, I can't recall many chances that we gilt-edged (more 20 yard daisy cutters in crowded penalty areas) even though we played some reasonable stuff in and around the middle of the park due to Burnley standing off, with width coming courtesy of DeLaet and Dyer. The build-up on certain occasions was tremendous but far, far too frequently decision making in the final third / our final ball delivery was not up to par and any kind of momentum or chance went begging when opportunities and good positions arose. I feel we edged the first half but were not the tour de force Sky alluded to. The second half was terrible because Burnley recognised where we were winning the game and set up in similar fashion after their goal, they pressed exceptionally and kept their lines fantastically, it's that organisation that has seen them occupy the top spots. Our midfield doesn't seem to like being harried and our lack of sustained possession second half was beyond frustrating and players began to ponder on the ball. Bar one, perhaps two moves second half, I fail to see how anybody can be satisfied with that period. Defending for the equaliser was Sunday morning standard and that's the worst I'll ever see Knockaert play for us, I'd imagine. Lloyd was the best player in a blue shirt by some distance during the game's latter stages. In short : - First half good without really creating too much, better decision making / delivery and we'd have more than likely been a good few up. - I thought the penalty was soft at first, but Ben Mee clearly barges into Vardy. Good call. - Second half terrible, poor in possession, defensive lapses, no midfield urgency. - Lloyd, Wes, Vardy, Kasper, and to a certain extent Moore all emerged with credit. I really like this squad of players so I'm not getting overly concerned but two or three fresh faces in January could be the difference between automatics and play-offs. Onto Loftus Road.

I would also like to see konchesky dropped for schlupp. Him and dyer against Watford were superb and all the overlapping they did, Konchesky get's worse everytime I see him play, I will be amazed if we offer him new contract. Harsh. GTF's hold-up play and touch were two of the minimal positive sparks in an otherwise abysmal second period. I don't think Konch was helped by his midfield today, he always makes himself available but often gets used when teams are on the front foot - more often than not his experience tells and we clear the danger. You'd notice if he was gone.

As for his penalties/open play goals.... I couldn't give a shit. He's put away over 80% from the spot. his open play goals will come. and yes of course you're entitled to comment. but considering we won the first half 1-0 and lost the send half 1-0 its stating the bleedin obvious.

We were so dominant in the first 45 minutes and should've been up by two goals at least. Poor finishing let us down there. It's now close to four games or roughly 360 minutes since we last scored from open play (Knockaert at Sheffield Wednesday) and it does bug me that the midfield has such a hard time linking up with the strikers again. This does indeed remind me of last season and the remaining games in December should act as an indicator whether Pearson and the players have learnt anything from last season's barren spell around this time of the year. As it stands, it does look like history repeating in that regard. Second half wasn't really much of an advertisement for the Championship. Hoofing and teams that were pretty much cancelling each other out resulted in a half bereft of many real goal chances. And when we had some, we gave them away. As of right now, we do look like a Top Six team, but not one that really wants to push for an automatic promotion place.

Didn't use the wingers much at all in the second half. Have to blame Moore for the goal. Wasn't marking his man at all. Great to see Nugent put in a good shift, surprised he got taken off myself but something had to changed and Vardy was always looking dangerous.

We just outplayed the top team for large chunks! ... and gave four to six stupid points away at Brighton and Sheffield Wednesday. The team was really up for the game... for about 60 minutes. The first half was great and so were the last ten, fifteen minutes. In between, it was a bad show by players very slowly reacting to having conceded an early equalizer in the second half. The next two weeks will be very, very interesting.
