Feeling pretty down tbh. We really should've won that today with the chances that we created. I would've felt much more confident with Chris Wood coming off the bench. It would've been a decent result but the fact that we threw away points against Sheffield Wednesday and didn't get anything away at Brighton makes it less so.

 

Additionally we now have Derby just 2 points behind us and Reading just 5 points behind us. That's massively sh**e given where we were just 2 weeks ago. I'm hoping we can find our goalscoring boots and begin to turn it around again soon but bad results against QPR and Reading will leave me feeling pretty deflated!

Not the worst result in the world but the win was there for the taking. Burnley weren't that great today, they gave us more opportunities for us to score than we gave to them and we couldn't take advantage of it. Disappointing I know but it happens to us sometimes.

Not often i feel inclined to create an account for the sake of discussing matches with opposition fans but on this occasion i thought i'd make an exception.

 

Just thought i'd give the majority of you a big thumbs up. It's not often you get sensible, non-partisan discussion on a rivals board a short while after the game, but i've been surprised here.

 

It WAS an excellent advert for the Championship. Leicester looked excellent going forward, and would perhaps count theirselves unlucky to only be 1 goal in front at half time. Still, as many of you pointed out - if you don't take your chances when you are on top then you leave yourselves open to be punished.

 

We didn't really show up at all for the first half. We've looked leggy and nowhere near the same intensity in the first half for maybe the last 5-6 games now. I guess that's the risk you run when you operate with a small squad. Still, a criticism of Dyche could be that he might've done something to arrest the trend. Slow starts have ultimately cost us points in this run - Huddersfield away, Watford and Bournemouth at home are examples of games you'd like to think, that as promotion contenders, you would do better in.

 

However, Dyche has been excellent in his man management of the side, and so we looked like the "real" Burnley after the break. I think both of the sides would feel they could have pinched it. A theme of the game from our side would definitely be that we didn't get the ball down - put our feet on the ball and look to play at our own pace. We would normally look to Jones for that, who seemed off key for a lot of the game, and also Shackell & Trippier (Normally excellent at bringing the ball forward from defence) - but the pair of them were put under superb pressure from Vardy, Nugent and Dyer and looked for the long ball far too often imo. Leicester's bone of contention would be the same issue as the first - just getting the bloody thing in the net.

 

Interesting that we are both seemingly in for SEB - he strikes me as the goal poacher you need in Wood's absence , whereas for us he would initially be 3rd choice which might just swing it in your favour - well, that and a few thousand other reasons

 

Loved the Nuge pen at Burnley - it's just that i've always had him down as the old 'scorer of great goals' rather than a 'great goalscorer' so i don't think he's your man.

 

All in all - i'd say a fair result. Leicester were exceptional bar the finishing touch in the first, whereas in the second we demonstrated our intensity and resilience.

 

Our MOTM - Sam Vokes. Fair to say he had the better of most aerial battles and was a rock - no mean feat when you are playing against one of the top 3 centre backs in the league. Great hold up play and some tidy footwork. Is now a million miles from the journeyman carthorse we picked up for buttons.

 

Your MOTM - Llloyd Dyer. I don't even watch the guy often but you can tell he must be infuriating to watch. As an opposition fan my heart was in my mouth every time he got the ball, but from speaking to many foxes he doesn't offer the kind of threat he did today often enough. If he had an end product he'd be playing for a top 6 PL side. Some excellent balls today, mind.

 

Best of luck for the rest of the season chaps, wouldn't be disappointed at all to see ourselves and you lot make the cut.

 

Oh - and forget about Ingsy, unless you've got 8 million down the back of your sofa - We've been blessed with some striking talent over the past 4 or 5 years and he is right up there.

Wow! that feels like a defeat to me, fair enough Burnley looked good when they attacked and could have score a couple more but there defending was woeful, Dyer was running them ragged in the both halves. The amount of chances we missed today was unbelievable. We certainly need another option on the wing! when Knocky as a poor game we have no other option, up front again we not putting away our chances!

 

On a positive note we played well and created some excellent chances but chances don't win you games it goals. The big question now is would i pick the same eleven for QPR?.... I'd maybe make a couple of changes first put Moore in at right back and bring Waz back in with Morgan, De Laet looked both poor and unfit, the other change i'd make is instead of Vardy i'd start Schlupp.

 

Meanwhile we've got Man City this tuesday and i think Nigel will make a wholesale of changes and to be honest I wouldn't blame him, we need to try some new things!

Thats not true in the slightest, we passed it around well at times and played some nice triangles that involved 4/5 players...

What the shit is wrong with you?  We outplayed one of main rivals this season.  Good, entertaining game I thought and really a draw is not a bad result.  Agree we need to be more clinical but I didn;t see anything worth worrying too much about.  Come on you Foxes!!

Vardy just can not finish.  For all the great running off the ball he does, ultimately he is judged on his finishing and it is not anywhere near good enough.  Two clear chances wasted by him today.  19 shots and only 3 on target is precisely the reason we did not win the game today.  It is poor that we had to rely on a penalty decision that imo could have gone either way just to get a draw.  Need someone who is capable of finishing desperately. 

 

Also they say form is temporary but class is permanent.  I don't think I saw Wes Morgan win a header all game.  I hope it is the latter and not the former as he is not the same player as last season.

It's quite laughable at times, later in the match Moore heads clear and they claim he handled it !!!

The vast majority that your on about support the club by going to games and paying a lot of money in the mean time.

The vast majority sing and cheer on their team even when they are playing shit, but will come onto forums like this to vent their frustrations.

So if you don't like it take a bit of your own advice.

I am including in ground support, for example, if Dyer is wasteful at the end of a run I hear people calling 'rubbish' etc, if you directly call any of the players you are supporting rubbish you should not be inside the ground.

There were one or two pluses today but overall we were too sloppy,  showed no signs of the ruthlessness we've got to find from somewhere to earn promotion, squandered what open play opportunities we had and could easily have given the game away for all that Burnley hardly deserved it.

 

Fans, and the manager, must have been wearing blinkers to suggest we played well. Burnley might have been top but they were rugged, predictable and seemingly managed by an ex-roofer given how much they liked to work with the ball in the air.

 

And yet they had by far the best chance to win the game with the one-against-one chance gifted to them by a needlessly careless headed back pass from DeLaet which resulted in Kasper saving what amounted to a rather tame attempt to beat him.             

Quite why DeLaet even wanted to head the ball back from not far off the halfway line, never mind without looking or knowing that Burnley had a striker lurking in open space behind him, is inexplicable but it sure emphasised the sloppiness I mentioned.

 

Their goal was sloppy too because if lowish crosses are going to be allowed to pass across the face of our goal 10 metres out without anyone attacking the ball then we're all but gifting a goal.

 

The sloppiness of our finishing has been widely referred to and yet, while Vardy was the most guilty that  was only because Vardy was the only one showing the energy and determination to genuinely looking dangerous in dangerous places.

 

Indeed, it was Vardy who unsettled the Burnley defence enough to fashion the penalty that Nugent scored as one of the few things of note that I remember from him.

 

Also sloppy - and still one of the most frustrating players I've seen - was Knockaert.

Nippy, alert, involved yes, he showed energy in abundance. But second half he became such a liability he might easily have cost us the game on a couple of occasions when he simply gave the ball away for no justifiable reason.

 

Furthermore promising attacking opportunities also disappeared with his insistence on a touch or 10 too many, his failure to pick the killer pass - to Dyer as much as anyone - or through wanting to run through a multi-layered barrrier of Burnley muscle like a suicidal squaddie.

 

We just can't carry on like that and expect to be successful especially given our almost trademark thoughtless free-kicks and corners plus the lack of any consistent goal threat from more than three or four players and from no-one aerially except on very rare occasions.

 

Many good football teams score a fair number of goals as a result of free-kicks and corners - often through late arriving defenders. The mind thinks of Vidic in his vintage years or Walsh and Elliott under MON. But we so little in this way yet it's little things like that which will make the difference over a season.    

 

A point was welcome. The overall performance was patchy. Lloyd Dyer probably posed the greatest threat and earned Man of the Match for us and Vardy deserves credit for going in where he was likely to get hurt and teasing out the penalty from which we scored.

 

But this wasn't promotion football by any means.
