Guest MarshallForEngland Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 And yet they had by far the best chance to win the game with the one-against-one chance gifted to them by a needlessly careless headed back pass from DeLaet which resulted in Kasper saving what amounted to a rather tame attempt to beat him. Quite why DeLaet even wanted to head the ball back from not far off the halfway line, never mind without looking or knowing that Burnley had a striker lurking in open space behind him, is inexplicable but it sure emphasised the sloppiness I mentioned. Not sure I know what you're talking about here. It was certainly very careless but he definitely didn't head it. A header from "not far off the halfway line" sounds a lot more unreasonable than what he actually did. Also, you can give Kasper a bit more credit than that surely, it was an unbelievably good save.
Bert Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 I've watched a replay several times over and it's definitely a penalty.I watched the highlights that sky had on at 11:30. The commentary was so unbelievably biased It made me mad. It was a penalty, no question. Yet they claimed it was debateable. Early second half Vardy is chasing down Duff, a bloke much bigger than him and knocks him over with his shoulder and they claim it was a "definite foul" embarrassing. They were running Kieren Trippier who I thought Lloyd had on toast for most of the afternoon but the "assist machine" as the twat called him somehow got man of the match. Ings scores from 5 yards out and they went on like it was a top class finish. I could've scored that with my eyes closed. Enough of that rant. I'm glad we managed to stop the defeats, we have a big game to look forward to on Tuesday first, but we should take the positives (plenty of) from today into QPR.
Les-TA-Jon Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 One thing i've not seen mentioned by anyone else about the match: We lost possession 18 seconds after the 2nd half kick off, with us taking it. After 88 seconds they'd equalised. Considering we were 1-0 up, and should have been 2-0 at least, Burnley were obviously going to come out of the traps well. Can't understand why we couldn't just pass it around for a few minutes. In fact whilst I'm on the subject; watch our kick offs from now on. The vast majority of the time we start it off, pull it back to Konch or whoever's playing at RB and then just hoof it up the wing. I've got no idea why we're not interested in keeping the ball.
Dan Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 Burnley didn't make it easy for us to keep the ball today - it often forced us into either a hoof, or a cracking little passing move. I actually think we're quite similar sides in some ways. But sadly based on that game, Thrac's general point is spot on - we just aren't ruthless.
ozleicester Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 Good mostly enjoyable game to watch. First playing second in a highly competitive league ends in a 1-1 draw...shouldnt surprise anyone. we played well enough to take the points, they played well enough to deserve a draw. Im amazed at the absolute dominance we had down the left, to the point that we rarely used the right. Knocky had an off day, Vardey missed a couple of chances and Burnley played quite well once that got a hold of it. Good match to watch, probably a fair (if disappointing) result.
dayday Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 There were one or two pluses today but overall we were too sloppy, showed no signs of the ruthlessness we've got to find from somewhere to earn promotion, squandered what open play opportunities we had and could easily have given the game away for all that Burnley hardly deserved it. Fans, and the manager, must have been wearing blinkers to suggest we played well. Burnley might have been top but they were rugged, predictable and seemingly managed by an ex-roofer given how much they liked to work with the ball in the air. And yet they had by far the best chance to win the game with the one-against-one chance gifted to them by a needlessly careless headed back pass from DeLaet which resulted in Kasper saving what amounted to a rather tame attempt to beat him. Quite why DeLaet even wanted to head the ball back from not far off the halfway line, never mind without looking or knowing that Burnley had a striker lurking in open space behind him, is inexplicable but it sure emphasised the sloppiness I mentioned. Their goal was sloppy too because if lowish crosses are going to be allowed to pass across the face of our goal 10 metres out without anyone attacking the ball then we're all but gifting a goal. The sloppiness of our finishing has been widely referred to and yet, while Vardy was the most guilty that was only because Vardy was the only one showing the energy and determination to genuinely looking dangerous in dangerous places. Indeed, it was Vardy who unsettled the Burnley defence enough to fashion the penalty that Nugent scored as one of the few things of note that I remember from him. Also sloppy - and still one of the most frustrating players I've seen - was Knockaert. Nippy, alert, involved yes, he showed energy in abundance. But second half he became such a liability he might easily have cost us the game on a couple of occasions when he simply gave the ball away for no justifiable reason. Furthermore promising attacking opportunities also disappeared with his insistence on a touch or 10 too many, his failure to pick the killer pass - to Dyer as much as anyone - or through wanting to run through a multi-layered barrrier of Burnley muscle like a suicidal squaddie. We just can't carry on like that and expect to be successful especially given our almost trademark thoughtless free-kicks and corners plus the lack of any consistent goal threat from more than three or four players and from no-one aerially except on very rare occasions. Many good football teams score a fair number of goals as a result of free-kicks and corners - often through late arriving defenders. The mind thinks of Vidic in his vintage years or Walsh and Elliott under MON. But we so little in this way yet it's little things like that which will make the difference over a season. A point was welcome. The overall performance was patchy. Lloyd Dyer probably posed the greatest threat and earned Man of the Match for us and Vardy deserves credit for going in where he was likely to get hurt and teasing out the penalty from which we scored. But this wasn't promotion football by any means. 99% of the time i agree with you,but to say you must be blinkered to thing we played well,i disagree i thought we played some fantastic football at times, one touch passing at the start of the game, the movement was excellent, and we were getting in behind them, there was know way we could keep up that tempo up though and as in most games we don't take advantage. They were always going to have there spell and its a shame we conceded a soft goal, yet we rode the storm and if you watch the last 15 minutes we were all over them ,the link up play from Knockaert and Dyer were causing them all sorts of problems but when the crosses come over only Vardy gambled , here lies our problem we really need a poacher a Kevin Phillips type of a player who is prepared to get in the box. There is a lot to like about our football we just need a couple of signings to take us to the next step.

Burnley closed us down excellently yesterday. I can't remember a side forcing us to give it back to the goalie or hoof clearances so much in a game. They gave us no time on the ball in defence. This meant Drinkwater didn't have the ball as much as he usually does as a lot of balls bypassed him. He makes us tick and they knew that. Fair play to them.

I'd agree with you entirely about the poacher and wonder why our supposedly marvellous first team coaches never seem to develop our own given the limited choice that's out there for a reasonable price Schlupp's never been given a proper chance to convince me if he's a striker or not and would be best moving on just as Billy McKay did to his enormous advantage. He was a terrific player in many ways - a natural scorer, willing team player , so understandable, good passer, selfless runner and so quick to make decisions. Yet we developed him so far then completely passed him by because we preferred to indulge the no-hope foreign imports of Mr Mandaric's day.

McKay's now scoring for fun - and doubtless making goals too at Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Premier division and looking a real handful. Instead we've got the likes of Knockaert who scores occasionally, flatters to deceive, and is almost totally unpredictable and a and a nightmare for his colleagues to read. . A natural poacher I sometimes likened to Denis Law in style. Forty-two goals in 53 games over the last two seasons and we didn't want him! Honestly we haven't got a clue when it comes to attackers. In fact Leicester's been a scrapyard for so many strikers - and wingers - in recent seasons because we've no idea how to get the best from them. The latest is Gary Taylor-Fletcher and you might say "whoever he was" for all the impact he's made or even been allowed to make. Kingy used to get 10 goals a season from midfield but has somehow been negated. Schlupp looks a shadow of the player he has been and could be, Nugent looks ordinary, Waghorn's achieved nothing, Vardy's never been his confident best as a marksman since he arrived here for all his general improvement this season, Marko Futacs arrived and was hardly heard of again and so on. Where are the success stories? When do our senior coaches ever take a striker and make him shine? http://en.wikipedia....iki/Billy_McKay

There have been so many strikers joined the club in recent times who just don't appear to have achieved any sort of potential. Waghorn, Beckford, Futacs and most recently Schlupp. I must be seeing things cos I see SO much potential in Schlupp, yet he constantly flatters to decieve. Nugent looks to be going backwards and Vardy, though improved is just not prolific. It's bizarre really. Look at Burnley as a case in point. Rodriguez, Austin, now Ings... they seem to be able to take a relatively obscure striker and make him better.

Where are the success stories? When do our senior coaches ever take a striker and make him shine? http://en.wikipedia....iki/Billy_McKay It's the way we were set up to play second half we sat too deep many times Vardy being the only one up front on occasions, too much of a gap between defence and attack. Plus we never have an outfield ball as our tactics are when the opposition get a corner is to pull everyone back for that corner. If it goes straight into our keepers hands we then have to wait until our players get forward again. Everytime Drinkwater got the ball yesterday he slowed it down hence why he often had two men on him closing him down. That's why he always passes back or sideways. I call us twenty minute City at the moment. Cos in the first twenty minutes we play well come out all guns blazing. Once twenty minutes passes we forget how to play until the opposition score.
Matt Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 Simple fact is we're making stupid mistakes, sloppy mistakes, unforced errors, misplaced passes, we're giving the games away. We eradicate them and we'll get back to winning ways. I know i'm stating the obvious, but if it's that obvious when are we going to do something about it? Playing devils advocate and I know i've gone on about it alot this week (Along with others) but I wonder if we'd coincidently play better should a few contracts be handed out? I know players don't go out to play poorly, but for example I havn't had a payrise this year at work and I find myself not working as hard as I did, i'm not being as helpful as I was and i'm doing less work and being less productive now, the difference is I probably earn in a year what they earn in a week or two and besides for their personal gain they are in the public eye, with other clubs watching them so even if regardless of whether they want a new contract here or not they should be playing for their future and getting other clubs interested with me it's not as if other companies are watching me to 'sign' me.
Candidcamera Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 I posted earlier in the thread and I have had time to think this through. Leicester are playing brilliant football and the defence at least yesterdays will measure up to most in this division and our midfield are working well with great running seeing the forward pass and nicely bringing in the wingers and the forwards. Knockaert is the most talented player at the club and so deserves to get the odd decision wrong. He is learning the game. Dyer is having a great season. Vardy is a revelation from last year but struggles to finish. Nugent unfortunately because he is such a character is just not hacking it. I know he can do better but the team deserves better. We must buy and if we get someone say from France who is not a Chris Wood type player - after all we have got Chris Wood I believe we can do it this year.

I can't remember their keeper making many saves yesterday, even though I can remember us being the better team creatively and creating numerous chances....not the first time that's happened this season, by a long chalk. I know that it was a simple chance for him yesterday, but if we had someone like Ings up front we'd probably be 10 points clear at the top! Reliable finishers tend to cost a lot of money, unfortunately, unless Pearson/Walsh can somehow unearth another unknown gem... The injury to Wood is a real pain, as he is someone who is a natural finisher when he's on form ....and he looked to be hitting form again before he was injured, after a poor start to the season. On a positive side, the number of chances that we miss tell me that we are very good creatively, particularly midfield. Agree with other comments that we're not good enough at set pieces, though.
Danno Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 You know this league is shite when absolute dross like Danny Ings is top scorer
Guest ttfn Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 Did Thracian just suggest Billy McKay would be a better option than Knockaert? Crikey
Corky Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 Disappointed not to win, we had enough early pressure but didn't create real chances, just long shots that were blocked. Good pressure upfield allowed us to win the ball and get the penalty. After that they hit the post but Vardy should've put us two up with a shot just wide. Second half started really poorly, gave away a very soft goal and nearly gave away another before Kasper made a crucial save. Again came on strong towards the end, Vardy should've scored from Dyer's cross and we had enough set pieces to make problems in their box but didn't do it. Huge game next week, cannot afford a defeat, a win would be fantastic. I hope we go there with no fear and trying to win.

Saxondale Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 Bloody gutted about drawing this. To be fair to Dyche, he has them properly sorted tactically. The whole side is incredibly mobile. Even on a fast counter attack they somehow managed to get half the side behind the ball. When they needed to defend, the were all behind the ball. They gave us no time or space and stopped us playing our clever passing game. Hats off to them. I'm still not sure they'll have the stamina to remain at that level throughout the season but, let's be honest, they look a good side. I'm not sure what more we actually could have done yesterday. We weren't playing our proper football in the second half, but that's only because they stopped us doing so very effectively.
Monsell1976 Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 I have a season ticket (travel from cambridge) and have been to 5 away games this season so your first point isn't valid I am including in ground support, for example, if Dyer is wasteful at the end of a run I hear people calling 'rubbish' etc, if you directly call any of the players you are supporting rubbish you should not be inside the ground. You are clearly a moaner judging by your response. You are clearly up your own arse judging by your response, and the way you put down your fellow supporters. So what you travel from Cambridge, doesn't mean everybody else doesn't pay as much as you to attend. I wish I was a great supporter like you, and will sit they and not moan if your team doesn't play well, well done. I am not going to explain how I follow my club to an arrogant person like you, but you have proved how arrogant you are by stating, if any fan should call a player rubbish, they shouldn't be in the ground. If I want to have a moan I will, if I want to support my team whichever way I want I will
Monsell1976 Posted 16 December 2013 Posted 16 December 2013 Their forum is pretty awful to read. to be fair don't normally read other teams forums but your post made me look.Basically they are saying or should I say they are confirming a lot of what is being said on here, by the perceived negative supporters.
Silverdaz Posted 16 December 2013 Posted 16 December 2013 Sat too deep second half and we paid the price. Why fo we do that? Too much of a gap between the defence and the forward line. Strange substitutions for me too? Why take Vardy and Nugent off? Drinkwater who was poor today or Knockeart should have been replaced. Still, at least we did not lose. Dont you realise according to some people Knockaerts undroppable
phillo Posted 17 December 2013 Posted 17 December 2013 they were played well so did we onwards we march coyb
