Potential January signings

Recommended Posts

Nigel Pearson has said on numerous occasions that they are always looking at players to improve the squad. Once Phillips has signed, it's likely we won't sign anyone else but not impossible. If the right player comes up who can improve the squad they'll try and bring him in.

I doubt well sign anyone else after Mahrez and Phillips unless one of two situations occurs:

1) Konchesky's injury is longer than feared. I.e. 3-4 weeks. In which case we may look to get in a fullback on a short term loan deal especially if schlupp is going to Wigan as rumoured on here. If this does happen someone like fox or taylor on loan would be good.

2) Someone with a genuine high level of quality becomes available at the right price. Whilst this is unlikely in January I would not put it past them to strengthen the squad with someone of a high calibre when given the opportunity. Who that would be or where they would come forms beats me it's not necessarily something we need to resume this years successes.

Other that this surely the best business we can be doing is keeping hold of our big money assets who are out of contract and sealing new deals for them if possible.

Please not Danny Fox my Southampton supporting mate thinks hes gash. Plus, we would never get Neil Taylor imo. Best bet is going for someone like Marange, Briggs, Bennett, Luna, Hutton if we were to go for another fullback.

I'm more then happy for Mahrez and Phillips to be our only signings this month! We don't need to spend anymore money on loan fees or transfers.  Its Fantastic that our entire squad has cost £9 m to put together.  and That's including the £1m we paid for Marshall! Well done Nigel

If Konchesky is out for a period of time we will bring in a LB, Schlupp could quite easily slot that role but his inexperience would show imo, as a back up LB that is all he remains for me.

Bringing someone on loan from the prem would be fine, don't know who is available.

Miquel did a quite good job at LB against Millwall. If Schlupp is staying at Leicester then I don't think we need to sign a cover.

I think both Schlupp and  Miquel could well get exposed by a decent winger - neither are natural full backs and whilst they can do a job, it quite clearly showed when Schlupp came on v Derby, they got far more crosses in. So, if Konch is fit, fine, they are decent back up, but if he's got a long term injury, then a proper left back is required IMO.

Agreed re Schlupp though he need game time to work on his positioning. Thought he settled well after nervy first ten minutes at Derby though. I only watched Miquel once at Millwall, did he played at LB in other games?

I sit in a box down at the King Power and in front of us apparently were a couple of scouts from Aston Villa looking at Liam Moore and Jamie Vardy.

Don't know how true it is but that's what I was hearing in the bar afterwards.

Also a Newcastle scout looking at Knockaert.

I think I'd sooner have Miquel or Schlupp at left back than the likes of Michael Ball, Tom Kennedy, Nils Eric Johansson, Ryan McGivern and Jamie Clapham, all of which were 'specialists'. Miquel, especially, could do a good job there.

Scouts can look but we are top of the league looking at promotion, they would need silly, no, ridiculous money to buy those players and we really do not need to sell.

Didn't someone send a scout down to watch Drinkwater versus Fulham? He had a good game but still nothing materialised.

Just goes to show what a good job Pearson is doing that clubs are coming to look at our players.

Last time Schlupp played left back at Leeds he dived in recklessly or in naïve manner and gave away a penalty - final result Leeds won 1 - 0. Still say if Konch's is a 3 or 4 week injury someone like Fryers or the lad from Swansea, Neil Taylor, would be a good 28 day loan signing.

Danny Fox would be good enough for us, maybe not in the Premier League but definitely would be happy with him if Konchesky is injured for a bit.

Fair play to you - first to break the news on someone who has actually signed for us

Thanks. Not really looking for any credit. Just glad we got him and hope he turns out to be a decent signing.

Chalobahs loan is not being renewed with Forest and runs out on Weds - going to another Championship team

Can't see him if fitting our requirements so interesting to see where he ends up

Definitely not on our radar. Apparently he is on 35k a week at Chelsea. Obscene money for someone who hasn't even proved himself yet. Although I do smile that Forest are paying his full wages to warm their bench whilst on loan there. Forest don't seem to care about FFP. Will be interesting to see what happens if/when they don't get promoted. Who will Billy blame then?
