Babylon Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 I'd say around 2-3 times ..... the abysmal drop in form in the last half of last season. The lack of any meaningful impact when he first took over from Sven, and I can't remember the other time! The fact that he signed some experience and not relied on the "young & hungry" formula suggests a big change in itself. The confidence you have that he can turn around the next blip, because it will happen, suggests another. But for me, that's down to him ..... not some magic coincidence, I'm actually giving him more credit than those that always said he was great .... it takes more to recognise your own failings and amend them than to just stay the same. He has always signed players with experience, it's not a new thing really. Look at league one or his first spell in the champ. Perhaps he would admit he made a mistake and overloaded slightly on the young players. The confidence I have is more to do with the mental strength shown by the players, more than him doing anything different particularly. I'm sure he is growing and learning himself, as I said last year even though he's fairly old, experience wise as a manager he's not got a huge amount compared to others of his age. So there is certainly room for him to improve.
Winnershfox Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 We have to respect our owners who could have so easily sacked him during that bad run towards the end of last season. They didnt and here we are now. I have great faith in the board and Nigel its a great team effort.
midland_red Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 attention deficit disorde is a real issue in footy today. I'm sure I read that it took alex ferguson seven seasons to win anything much at Man U. He would be looking to get half a season now. It was the same with Brian Clough at Derby. I was always a supporter of NP just on the grounds of patience....Rome wsnt built in a day - but it was built

THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Went to a cracking gay bar in dalston today, right up Cambridgefox's street, came out to a fine victory, straight over the road and had a magnificent dump in a practically empty nandos. Strong day. Who's jealous?

The Year Of The Fox Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 And that's why I love him This this this
Strokes Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Presumably, by at certain points, you mean any time after we were top two in Feb? There were plenty of signs there that we had the potential for this. I do not buy into this "he's changed" stuff personally, he sounds barely any different in interviews. We set up the same, we play the same football. We just have players with a bit more experience of champ football, along with a few older players with lots of football experience. I wasn't sure we'd be able to turn it around with how the season ended. But the mental strength it has taken for players to come back so quickly from that, I feel confident we can handle any blip better now. I do think he has had a change in tactical mentality this season. Last year he set out his best side with a beat that if you can type thought, whereas now he seems to change to adapt to counter the oppisitions strengths. It's only subtle things but I feel he has learnt from that bad run, an adapted to become a better manager.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 I know someone who still maintains that he should have gone after the Derby away defeat last season. Laughable it is that. Done an amazing job

StanSP Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Gutted when he left for Hull. The horrible run last season was tough to take but I personally never wanted him to leave. The bigger picture during that run was that we were a work-in-progress. We were rebuilding and we probably still are. Both on and off the pitch. It would have been to our detriment were we to get rid of him. That decision not to let him go is being justified in this very moment. Still plenty of hard work to do but I'm sure Pearson is the right person to take us through to May. I actually think last season's experience will bode well for this season. Something to learn from and definitely something for the players to prove that last season is well behind them. They're probably aware of the risk of complacency that can creep in but now they can work harder against that in the second half of this season. Pearson is probably one of the best things to have happened to the club in the last 10 years.
VLC86 Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 IF we get promoted I say we all buy a city track suit and some white reebok classics and wear them to the last match of the season as a tribute, who's in?

Wink Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Not that I want this to happen, but why do you guys think Nige has not been linked with any other jobs? For example, WBA are currently looking for a manager and I know he doesn't have Premier League experience as a manager but we're playing some good stuff, we're top of the league on merit. Last season did a great job (minus that terrible run, but managed to turn the corner and end in the play offs). He's sensible with the amount of money he's spent on players which must be a chairmen's dream. But I've seen Sean Dyche linked with WBA.. Now don't get me wrong I don't believe that he will end up there but why does it seem he getting more recognition than Nige? The only manager in the Championship or lower that I can think of, that is based on reputation is a better manager than Nige is Harry Redknapp and that's based on his experience of managing at that level. Paolo Di Canio & Gus Poyet both managed to get jobs without previous management experience at that level (Probably due to their reputations as players more than anything). Like I said I don't want Nige to go anywhere but just wondering people thoughts really... Over to you!

Could be that he has a clause in his contract that says the cooperation will be extended by another 12 or 24 months in case of promotion to the Premier League.

Thracian Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 According to Pearson we are doing okay... Pearson's spot on. All this OTT self-congratulation with Stringer leading the way as if we're already promoted is so annoying. We're not looking marvellous by any means but we are collecting points and it's rather like scoring goals, points are points however they're accumulated. Yes, there are aspects to commend as well, but so many other things can be done better and such a long way to go before we can start getting cocky. Pearson's comment reflects that and I hope he's still focused on improving because we'll need to.

Don't know really, he hasn't had a massive amount of experience but then neither had Di Canio or Poyet, even Paul Ince got the Blackburn job on the back of winning League 2.

Guest shearfox Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 The reason Pearson doesn't get recognition from sides in the PL, is because they see Leicester top and it isn't a big surprise to them, it's almost expected. We all know what he has achieved bringing us from our lowest point in history to top of the Championship is magnificent. Thankfully others aren't seeing it. I'm sure if we get promoted and start to stabilise ourselves in the top flight he will get the recognition. At the end of the day I doubt he would go to a lower PL side, he is on good money here and will feel he could at least get us to be a stable side in the PL. We are a bigger club than some in the top flight .
Dan Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Despite our run last year (in which I must admit my faith in him slowly started evaporating), I've never wanted him out. He's completely outdone my expectations this season so far and whilst I did think we were lacking mentally last year, I did always think we were only 2/3 players from being the league's best. We're not safe from a cock up yet but we've bounced back near enough every time so far. Only once have we gone on a run of more than a game without a win this season.

Di Canio and Poyet are both foreign so automatically have priority in the 'English' Premier League.
