Sitting at away games

Recommended Posts

The problem is, some people are just ridiculous and insistent that they "sit in the seat they have paid for". This is generally people that prefer to sit at games.

I always thought it was common knowledge for those that want to sit to go at the front and those that want to stand go to the back.

Standing is only against ground regulations in all sweater stadia. Otherwise a good number of people are breaking the law every other week at grounds such as Huish Park, Brunton Park Etc.

Genuinely haven't been told to sit all season but I do tend to just float over to where there's space and where you can tell that people will stand (and it is possible).

most prem teams stand and so do quite a lot of championship teams. are we saying that no one over the age of 50/60 go to away games for these teams?? standing for two 45 minute periods is not a big ask.

all about standing. dont understand sitting at all. spolis it for the 90% of those that like standing and creating an atmosphere.

What an idiotic post!

Try considering people who are unable to stand for that length of time.

Or should I not bother going to away games or any games for that matter, and cheer on MY team because I am "spoiling" it for you.

Oh and this might come as a shock to you but you can actually sing just as loud sitting down as to standing up. Crazy isn't it!

Think before you post next time, clown!

This guy must be Jesus Christ as he can heal the disabled!

Why should I not sit in the seat allocated to me. If I get a seat at the top and find it occupied I aint gonna say thats all right m8 I will go and play musical seats till i find ones that are vacated. Lets all meet outside the ground and I will sell you my ticket for say  £20 and you give me your ticket in your "sitting zone" As u must be desperate enough to pay for the privilege of forcibly ejecting me from my designated seat.

if people want to sit then they need to speak to the ticket office and get a ticket in the first 5 rows. If someone wants to sit half way up then i'm afraid its tough. If you were disabled to not be able to stand for 90 mins then you would be at the front so just get on with it and stand. Were not at Rugby

Yeah the rugby that has a terraced area for standing?!

Why don't people then? Why do people stand to sing in Church? Why do people stand to give speeches?

I wish everyone could stand. Given that's not possible I wish there were appropriate accommodation to cater for people of both persuasions.

I also strongly believe that all away ends should be unreserved. With the exception of QPR I believe most away ends are one price throughout so the fairest thing to do would be whoever gets in the ground first gets the 'best' seats. Groups who want to stand together can and those like me who often turn up at 3.01 can deal with an aisle.

To be fair the rare occasions I've had away tickets that have "unreserved seating" on them it gives me a little stiffy!

Quick point from the Millwall game.

Shortly after the second half started a group of about 30 fans came up the stairs singing went to the front 5 rows in front of people sitting down and proceeded to stand there singing blocking the view of several rows of people already seated behind them.

I watched several people get up and move knowing they were wasting their time trying to speak to them, then I saw one nameless older individual nip down the stairs to ask a steward to get them to sit down or move. The steward tried in vain as expected, and one older fan in the standing group turned around and started to aggressively ask who couldn't see and had a problem, offering to move. Of course given all the testosterone no one said a word and left it at that.

The utopia you speak of where standers go to the back and people who want to sit go to the front is just a dream I'm afraid. I go away quite a bit and have seen run ins between standers and people who want to sit at almost every game.

Now you young bucks who want to stand, sing and jump around I have no problem with you at all, but please kindly remember that when a 60-70 year old man is seated and you stand directly in front of him as happened at Millwall he often cant stand up for the whole half to see the game. I know you are probably juiced up and the adrenalin is flowing but we are all fans so please show some respect for those who can no longer stand, jump around and behave as you do or maybe even as they would wish.

People should enjoy the game however they want. Always said the people who want to stand, head to the back. You might have an elderly person, a woman or a child wanting/needing to sit, yet someone is stood in front of them... Hate all this 'people should stand' business.

Let me start by saying I'm completely in favour of standing and I'm a big, big supporter of the Safe Standing campaign - sections with rail seating can't come soon enough in my opinion.

But I'm getting a bit sick of sanctimonious position of some fans who seem to think that standing is the only way to enjoy a game of football and view anyone that wants to sit down as an inconvenience. You can tell by the sneering of a lot of people in this thread that they view fans who enjoy sitting during a game as not being 'proper' fans, that they can't enjoy a game properly unless or fully support their team unless they are standing for 90 minutes. I'm 27 and I go to maybe 15+ home games a season, and maybe 7-8 away games if I'm lucky, and I can appreciate both ways of watching the game. When I go to home games with my mates, we'll always try and stand wherever possible, and get involved with creating an atmosphere - and I really enjoy that. But I also go to a fair few games with my old man and my grandad - we go in the East Stand and sit for more or less the whole match, and I enjoy that equally as much as when I'm standing with my mates.

Yes, a lot of people enjoy standing, and at away games it's tough to find a compromise sometimes as you're not always able to determine where you're going to end up, but fans should be working TOGETHER. It's not sitting vs standing, it's about fans who love a football club, supporting them in the way that's best for them. If your default position is 'standing is the only way to enjoy a football match, and **** the opinions of anyone who thinks otherwise' then you're just as bad as the stewards who go round routinely forcing people to sit down IMO.

2 good posts from Mack and Indierich, I think people need to be realistic and expect to sit, and if you can stand it is a bonus rather than coming out with this attitude that they have a right to stand. People need to use common sense, where possible, and go and join the standers if you want to stand rather than stand in their allocated seat, regardless of who is behind. When it is sold out, you cannot expect to just be able to stand where you want, and you have to accept that being more successful people will be more willing to shell out their hard earned cash to go to away days, and may not understand this away day "etiquette" of sitting at the front and standing at the back, they shouldn't have their day ruined because of other fans. Small children, elderly, disabled, midgets, they all have equal right to support the club.

Clubs could and probably should do what they can to help, and allow fans to chose their seats and allow a standing zone, but we know they won't.

The other option is get there early claim the top part for the standers and anyone coming to sit, explain that the majority of that section will be standing, and just swap tickets with them if they want to sit. No hassle, no drama, no aggression, but would involve forfeiting a pre match pint, but getting there early enough to create some atmosphere rather than drinking over priced piss on the concourse.

I can't think of any decent sized club that has people sitting in an away end.

really?, maybe not every single game but there are plenty of decent sized club's who's fans sit at games.

Yep, so many teams in the Premier League and also in the Championship have away ends with everyone standing. I'm sure quite a few of them are old. You are supposed to stand at away games and at home games it is fine for you to sit or stand.

I have never, ever been to a ground that had a strict policy on wearing sweaters, who does this?

You obviously weren't at Charlton away this season then, plenty of fans sitting.

I was at Charlton.

Sitting down in away ends really shouldn't happen at this level, and especially not if we get to the Premiership. Imagine 5 rows of Man City's end sitting down the other week, it just wouldn't happen.

If we do make the Premier League this season then I don't really want to be told to sit at grounds like Old Trafford, Emirates and Stamford Bridge lol lol lol

Birmingham away and Huddersfield away last season are about the only games where I can recall all of our away end standing.

Don't normally post on here but I've gone to about 7 away games this season so far, and it's crazy the amount of people who have told me to sit down. I have bought tickets generally close to the back, surely if people want to sit at away games (which is odd) you should be purchasing tickets at the front of the away end...

When I have bought online it has never given me an option to choose where to sit, maybe it does for some games but I've never had it.

Whilst I would rather stand, it's a call you need to make on the day. Anyone saying they are just going to stand, end of story, is frankly just an ignorant arsehole. Because the people actually in the right are the ones wishing to sit and watch it, as they are the terms under which you purchase the ticket.
