Craig Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 McDermott running away when Pearson shouts 'BRIAN, BRIAN!'
sylofox Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Best result of the season so far. We looked poor no real spark and a shadow of last week. Games like today and the win are the ones that get you up. Not prety not nice but 3pts coommmmmmonnnnnn
Richard Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 I think now that we're in this position we've got to be prepared to have to break sides down. Most teams, especially at the KP will look to be gritty and break up play, double up on Dyer etc. We've got to get used to breaking sides down. Derby were just naive last week and gave us too much space to play, and when teams do I don't think there's a better footballing side than us
I blame Wellens Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Delighted with the result. Phillips came on found two or three great positions around the box. Pure quality. As for Konch, as I've been saying all bloody season, shocking. Not just the back passes. No pace. Continual misplaced passes, holds on to the ball far too long. In a word _________!!!!!
TrentFox Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Horribly bobbly surface did our game no favours, but I felt Moore looked like he had his mind on many things. Sadly, confidence with a football wasn't one of them ! James and Morgs good. King made a difference. Fabulous result. All that mattered today.

Pearson has done incredibly well but now he really does need to earn his corn. Today, Leeds went 4-4-2, doubled up on Lloyd Dyer and limited us to very very few chances. Yes, we won, but we could have easily not done. McDermott did his homework on us pretty well today and so too could other managers now that we are up there to be shot at. Its gonna be interesting to see if Pearson sticks with his 4-4-2. I think he will, its our best formation, but expect more games like today I would imagine.

If they double up on him too then we should think about putting King in the middle in place of James/Drinkwater. Depending on how the match is going of course.

I thought this through the second half when Dyer had pretty much been marked out of the game by Byram and Kebe that maybe there's a chance we could've been found out. When King cam on I did wonder whether Pearson would change things and could for a narrow diamond with Knocky at the top of it, we'd had no success down the flanks for the majority of the game If they double up on Dyer, then Knockaert needs to be on form. If they double up on him too then we should think about putting King in the middle in place of James/Drinkwater. Depending on how the match is going of course. I feel that Pearson has certainly matured tactically and I don't think he'd have any problem switching formation if it was clear we were being marked out of the game

He was a nightmare today, but pace wasn't a contributing factor. The good thing is that it was just silly passes which can be cut out with better concentration. He won't have too many games like that, and i don't think he has been bad at all all season. His positioning and experience goes unnoticed alot of the time.
iamafox Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Today was a classic example of a smash and grab victory. Just goes to show you don't always need to outplay the opposition to win matches. As long as we defend like lions whilst grinding out wins consistently, we will have a strong chance of promotion. We are still top of the league but that doesn't mean anything until the season ends.
Rincewind Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Managing is a lot different to what it was. A good manager will study formation and tactics but its on the field that counts. Access to videos of forthcoming opponents are essential. That is why teams from lower leagues can compete. Pearson seems good at assessing opponents and opposing managers will take note of how City play. Its like poker you have to vary the way you play sometimes.

It's like he's never heard of goal side. He is constantly being covered by our centre backs. Experience goes unnoticed. What the hell does that mean. Seriously you are a city fan so you must be a good bloke but I could not disagree more with anybody on my entire life and I include my wife in that. We need a replacement for him NOW. He is a liability!
Paulmot Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 It was a total grind of a result . Another away win. We Have now won 8 away only direby can match that, in fact only QPR have won more than that at home (LCFC Excluded) Burnley match that at home and the pundits all sing their praises for their home form. When will the tide turn and we be treated as at least equals to some of the Love Ins the "football experts" lavish on other teams. Slowly we are opening up a lead on our closest rivals. We need to carry our good form on now. We should have a clearer picture by the end of Feb. We have six more games till then 3 home 3 away as long as (Florist is not moved). Would love to have passed the 70 point mark by then.
Thracian Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Phillips showed exactly why he's needed here - know-how. It's been clear we've needed someone to attack the near post and Phillips showed just how it should be done and how greatly we can benefit. For me it was a super goal and well worthy of earning us three points. Okay, it was hard to understand after our efforts against Derby why we couldn 't seem to make even the simplest passes accurately but I don't think the home team deserved anything if they can't take chances when they arise - and they can't beat a goalkeeper who's paid to make saves. You get nothing for shots that are saved, blocked or hit either high or wide and that's exactly what Leeds ended up with. With Vardy hitting a post and Nugent's winner it might even have been 2-0!

Im pretty sure Pearson couldn't give 2 fks if Beagrie and Goodman praise us for winning a home match, they are both class a penises that know as much about football as my left bollock
Unabomber Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Managed to catch the last 15 mins on the radio during my lunch break, sounded like a massive result it what was a shit game.
cityfanlee23 Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Thought today we were poor all over the field, we were out grouped and thought leeds tactics were spot on in stopping us playing our game, and truth be told they should be disappointed that we even took a point let alone 3 Moore and morgan perticularly underperformed for me IMO But david nugent?!?! This is what I've been calling for ALL SEASON!! Finally he is starting to look like that clinical striker that we had before. Last week he was absolutely unplayable, This week, He barely looked like he was playing (As well as all of our attack) Yet, When the chance came, HE TOOK IT. HE TOOK THE CHANCE. Great dummy from kevin phillips dragging the defender away, otherwise it would of been a goalkeeper and 2 defenders for him to contend with, So alot of credit to phillips movement, he looked lively. Apart from that I thought from a leicester point of view it was poor for 80 minutes, but we will take the result and crack on to middlesborough where we will get more space to play our game... Leeds pitch was absolutely atrocious for such a "Massive" team.
Beliall Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 MASSIVE RESULT! Overall a average/poor performance but was never going to be easy and the ref was a bit whistle happy. Konchesky was dreadful and Moore looked shakey but grew into the game. We did the job and now we can sit back and hopefully watch QPR amd Burnley slip up (unlikely) moore looked much happier at right back, and I think konch was determined to get an assist
Lionheart Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 I reckon the 88th minute today will be our defining moment of the season,we should probably have lost today and would have come away happy with a point but we went and got 3 points the hard way and rode our luck which is just how you end up winning the league.

He is a liability! ****ing hell you are a righteous twat, aren't you? He's not our best player, but he has been the mainstay of our defence in the last two seasons. He is solid and consistent. Not shit. Not excellent. If he was a liability then we would have conceded more goals. Liam Moore has made more mistakes than him in the last 6 games. Where is his criticism?
woddyuk Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 When you get 3 point's and your goalkeeper is mom that's how you win promotion.Did have more possesion though. At a cost though Rdl injured and heard Vardy & Knockert suspended for boro due to bookings. Is that right ?

Doubt vardy will be missing
Lobsterboyuk Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Don't want to give Leeds too much credit, with our first choice right back struggling it was much easier for them to double up on the left. RDL in full flow would've forced them to spread out more at the back and open them gaps, Lloydy didn't look 100% today either irrespective of the Leeds tactics. Their lack of quality going forward was painfully clear today with those misses when gifted a shot on goal. Phillips was much livelier and they were forced to open up and we got a result that whilst not "deserved" was fair reward for sticking at it when plenty of other times they would play out the draw
