I don't really care that we played badly, it was just a fantastic 3 points.  It was always going to tough with Leeds wanting to bounce back from the Sheff Wed humiliation.  Fortunately they didn't capitalise on our mistakes and I knew if we created one decent chance in the second half that we might nick it.  We definitely would have lost this game last season.

I remember a year ago Cardiff beating us at home 1-0 with a Bellamy smash and grab. Today we were exactly like that - under the cosh and making mistakes, but ultimately holding out and taking the chance when it came. I thought for the goal that Phillips took all of Pearce's attention and afforded Nugent that extra half a yard. Kudos to Moore as well for the cross - he was clearly in pain. Great win!

They did the same thing at Leeds last season in a game that was just as grim as today's.

Super win, all things considered re our not playing well in the game and it being the polar opposite to how we played against Derby. The nature of our smash and grab victory was somewhat inevitable though I thought, with the way Leeds were going to be set up in order to prevent our fluid style we showed in last week's joyous performance (in a "damage limitation" sense from them maybe) and one that we've shown far more consistently this season than at any other time over the past three seasons under Sven and Pearson spell two. Definitely the kind of game we'd have only managed to draw (or lose) over the last couple of seasons - so there's the difference! :D

He's filthy, and also goes down like a fairy with the slightest touch. Awful awful player.

His tackle on Moore was a disgrace. The follow through was dangerous with foot high up.

A really poor performance might concern Nige, but winning whilst playing poorly is the mark of a good team. I watched the game with a Leeds mate who said that even as badly as we were playing, we looked threatening every time we got it in the box. The goal wasn't that much of a shock when it came, it was a total smash and grab.

I'll say one thing, we need to be getting in touch with Leeds about Sam Byram if we go up. Some player, he is.

Played with him for 3/4 years when I was younger and always said he would play for England. Hope he gets the move he deserves - think he could do with hitting the gym a bit more if he wants to be a prem regular though.

I hope it has shown other teams that by being physical & trying to bully us.........it doesn't necessarily work.  The referee let them (particularly Brown) kick lumps out of us all afternoon & they still ended up losing.

It has given teams an extra problem to think about

My Dad said it was described on Sky by Goodman as 'a wholly committed challenge'. It was a disgrace and Moore did him a favour by getting straight back up (which Brown wouldn't have done). Hate the bloke. Always have

Goodman applauded it!

Thought it would be 1-0, but if Im honest I thought it may well be to Leeds.

Today is a VERY good win. That was a really tough game.

I thought we'd spank them mate, so delighted that Nuge spared my blushes a tad :P That performance is the hallmark of Champions elect. COYB :chant:

Le Fondre hat trick for Reading in 33 minutes - we could do with him.

And a Ben Marshall special for Blackburn - we could do with him!

i think we're fine without them

If I were a woman I would offer myself unconditionally to David Nugent.

Well I'm a bloke and am still going to offer myself unconditionally !!!!

I see where you're coming from but I wouldn't call it a poor performance. We didn't play well for sure, but nearly everyone on here called out that result. Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham did us no favours which a lot of that game could be accounted for.

Just like the Millwall and QPR games, it's them ones that can define your season.

Just as I type this ,Sheffield Wednesday have just done us a favour and equalised. You better win Owls, you owe us for that performance!!!

The difference between this season and last is simple. Last season we'd have lost that game.

On a more negative note, Konchesky needs to pull his finger out his arse. His performance today could have almost singlehandedly lost that for us.

Positives-

Schmeichel- all round top display. Made two great saves, was alert from some wayward backpasses and commanded his area.

Morgan- Won everything in the air, blocked plenty.

Phillips- Experience was crucial, quality there to see.

Negatives-

Ball retention was very disappointing, especially up front.

Konchesky was a nightmare, could've been booked in the first half and nearly cost us twice with backpasses

Didn't do enough to get Dyer involved in the match

Don Goodman- dear me, this bloke is dreadful. Praising high challenges as "commitment", calling one challenge "naive" and an identical one "never a foul", going on about no free-kick given as "criminal", almost begging for a player to be booked in the first minute.

I am not getting the poor performance comments. Look at the stats, far more possesion 10 chances on goal which was eclipsed only by two and we dealt well with a team that were in our faces all game. In patches today we were class stroking the ball about and holding possesion. Granted a few school boy errors could have cost us (konch) but i would say that this was a good solid performance.

Pearson is fanatical about fitness, I think he'd practically live in the gym with the rest of the squad.

Agree. I reckon he was spending the 90 minutes thinking about what he was going to do to his missus tonight.

Leeds tried the rough stuff in the hope that Drinkwater, Knockeart etc would shy away and back off but it was quite the opposite. The more the disgraceful Brown tried to leave the boot in, the more we wanted the ball especially Drinkwater. He didnt have the best of games but the fact he kept on asking for the ball and try to play it was a testament to how far he has come.

This team is exciting and whilst there are aome fans who seem to want a repeat of last years dreadful run just to say 'I knew it', I honestly dont think it will happen. Today was a test and they passed it with flying colours.

This is it. This is the year.

City boss Nigel Pearson felt that the quality within his side was the difference as the Foxes took all three points from Leeds United with a dramatic late 1-0 victory.

David Nugent’s 17th goal of the season and 49th in a blue shirt sealed the win in a tight encounter at Elland Road, with a little help from a clever dummy by the Foxes' oldest-ever debutant, Kevin Phillips.

While City weren’t at their fluid best as they made it six league wins in a row, Pearson was pleased with the way his charges displayed a desire to come out on top at a notoriously difficult place to win.

The home side had lost their previous four matches, and had the better chances in the opening 45 minutes – a retort from Brian McDermott’s side that Pearson was braced for.

He told Foxes Player at full-time: “This remains a difficult venue and we talked about the fact that they probably would have a response from recent results, so it’s probably a little hard on them I have to say.

“But we won it with a bit of quality and I always felt that we had another gear.

“You can’t play sparkling football every time, but what I am pleased about today was that when we made mistakes, we were always there to make amends, that’s what being a team is all about.

“I think we showed at Millwall that you have to be able to win different types of matches.

“It was tough today because they were workmanlike, aggressive and it was a bit scrappy in terms of lots of free kicks and a few too many bookings. But I felt, in the second half in particular we were always comfortable.

“The biggest concern was going to be giving away the number of set plays that we did that gave them an opportunity to put the ball into the danger area. We defended well though.

“I thought it was an honest performance. The standards that we’ve set have been very high. It’s always tempting to expect too much. We always felt that we had enough to win today.”

Much of the pre-match talk was about the arrival of Phillips, and along with fine displays from the likes of Kasper Schmeichel and Wes Morgan, the boss was pleased with his contribution.

He added: “He does have a presence about him. We know how old he is, and it’s not something you see very often with outfield players but he showed today that his knowhow and ability to get into a game is going to be key for us.

“It was a great combination between the two of them (Phillips and Nugent) and a great finish for the goal.”

Which Schmeichel save is everyone talking about? The 1-on-1 or did I miss another? The 1-on-1 he did do everything right but still a piss-poor attempt from McCormack. I'd have put that one away no question.
