Leicester - "The Perennial Choker", "The Divers" and "The Referee's Pet"

The thing that annoys me as a Leicester fan is how bothered we get by what other fans think of us and how concerned we are with what other clubs are doing. It's massively evident in the age of the internet when you see countless threads on here about what other teams are doing. I suppose there's nothing wrong with that but we do tend to get caught up in it all.

My point wasn't particularly wanting to act outraged or to pretend that we don't do it. In fact I'd rather them talk about us because it means we must be doing something right! I just wanted to see whether anyone on here thought it was justified or the least bit factual.

I remember many of us saying the same about Cardiff last season and it's interesting now the boot is on the other foot. What's more interesting is the perception is that we were running away with the league and then dropped like a stone. We were only ever top on goal difference I think? It's just everyone seems to believe it was the same last season. Funnily enough, what made our choke not as damaging as it could have been was the fact that others, like Palace, Forest and Middlesbrough all choked right at the end of the season which meant we still managed a play off place and a crack at the premier league whilst going on a run of 3 wins in 16!

If we're a bunch of cheats and in the refs favour how come the last 2 penalties were so blatant, stupid and the offending tackle totally unnecessary surely they would all know by now not to make it easy for the ref .

For the Boro one Vardy was in the box with 6 Boro players around or near him with our lot still to arrive.

We are a club who is particularly disliked, I can't tell whether it's down to other fans thinking our fans think we're better than them, jealousy or our financial problems in 2002 and our attempts to buy promotion 2 years ago.

As already stated Adrian Durham is behind the perennial chokers remark. A die hard Peterborough fan, says it all really?

What makes it even better is that since he made the remark (after Brighton), we've picked up 22 points from 24.

His mob have collected 10 points from 27 :D

A combination of all of them... and the fact we are MASSIVE.

We post just as much shit about other sides, I wouldn't worry about it, there were plenty of comments last season about Watford's dodgy loan deals, Cardiff choking and their owner being a bellend, Palace getting lots of penalties and selling Zaha then getting him back.

This season there has been plenty of chat about QPR's over paid squad and their manager being a crook, Forest trying to buy their way out the league, Burnley being just a one man team and will fade away, Derby being overrated.

Let them, and us, talk shit, as long as the team continue to do the talking on the pitch I'll be happy.

Well to be honest given what I've seen from them this season I'd say that's fair comment!

It would seem one choke last season has distorted a few memories.

however I think I am right in saying under O'neill our form was generally not great after about march, infact something he also had problems with at villa.

The penalties, well I'd suggest most of them would want them given for their own teams, but the main point is, when you are playing well, playing attacking football and creating chances, you spend plenty of time around the oppositions penalty area, likely outcome, a few penalties, wouldn't be an issue to these clubs if we won a few freekicks on the half way line now would it. the fact shit tackles lead to penalties just highlights the fouls.

I'm guessing "maddo" is their version of stringer? lol

I would say he is their Young:

"And on the people bashing Maddo thing who cares if he pronounces names wrong or if he gets our formation wrong and isn't the " expert summariser " Ali makes him out to be. But he is a passionate Boro fan and you can hear the excitement in his voice when we score and I would much rather listen too a Boro fan on the radio who cares like Maddo than someone who is boring and lacks passion."

Yes true lol

A lot of it boils down to jealousy. Other clubs can't bare to see a team they think they're bigger than or think they've a divine right to go up be seen to being doing better than their own team.

Some Leicester fans would do exactly the same, as seen last season with Palace.

Very true Bert but the difference being that we are a bigger club than Palace and the only 2 clubs who can definitely say they are bigger than us are way below us. QPR and Burnley fans thinking they're bigger than us?! Ok then.

To be fair, whilst there were a few moaning whining bitching boro fans about, at least a few realise the decision is not clear cut.

I'd even go so far as to say that the ones who insist the ball was and and they woz robbed are in the minority.

Unfortunately that minority seems to include their manager who came across as level-headed and down to earth before the match:

anthony vickers â€@untypicalboro Jan 25

Aitor Karanka has just used my lappy to review match DVD... ball definitely over the line for opener. Not a happy hamster. #borolive

I can understand him not publicly blaming his players, but to claim the ball is "definitely" over the line is a bit delusional.  Hopefully a case of words being put in his mouth.

Who is this Adrian Durham geezer?

That's nearly as amusing as some joker on a Middlesborough forum saying, "who is Frank Worthington?"

You obviously have never listened to talksport radio?

Doesn't help when he gets told Sky say it was a "yard over the line". I think the guy doing the reporting that day was a Boro fan as well.

With the whole, was it over or not, issue....

I think what helped us too, was the fact that Nugent and Vardy both played to the whistle and acted so quickly in putting it into the net. If they hadn't been so quick then the officials might have had more time to think about whether it was in or not.

By scoring immediately after the incident, for the officials, stops being a decision about a goal kick or not, and starts being about whether it's a goal or not. It was clearly marginal. But they'd have to be 100% certain it had gone out to rule out the goal. Therefore they had to favour the attacking team. It was really brave officiating, but it was right.

I thought Vardy's reaction was brilliant, saw the options and ran backwards into some space, and it was good Nugent looked up and didn't take the shot on. I think Nuge actually thought it was out of play, as he is slow to celebrate, but as you say he played on anyway as he didn't hear the whistle, rather than give up.

If that goal had been scored against us we'd be pissed off and rightly so. It was out but not by a yard. Borderline decisions like that cannot be gotten right every time and when you're at the top you seem to get a bit more luck, we've had our fair share of bad luck in the last ten years.

Whether it was scored by us or against us, every slow motion replay and frame by frame analysis of it shows that the whole of the ball doesn't clearly cross the whole of the line.

That is the whole of the ball over the whole of the line, you can have about 10 cm of grass showing and it still hasn't crossed the line.

I can't see how you can say that from the footage available.  At best it's inconclusive, but there's certainly no camera angle which shows daylight between the edge of the ball and the line that I've come across.

I'm sure there would be those of us who fervently claim it was out had it been against us, but I'm also fairly certain most of us would be able to hold our hands up and accept that this time the ref made the right call given the evidence on hand.

I've watched it about 15 times and seen the stills of it, and you're right we are only judging it from the one angle but that's often all you get. Especially at this level where there's no other cameras to replay it over and over for the media to analyse, Anyway, all i'm saying is if we were away from home and that goal was scored against us, the majority of our fans would be unhappy about it. What Boro fail to understand is we scored again and missed a stonewall penalty so can't have many other complaints.
