A Reading fan fearing their record is set to be broken !

I would never, ever, expect to say this, but you can see where he is coming from with every single game bar a couple.

The only place it falls down with is the unpredictability of the league, we will lose stupid games. Also I really couldn't care less about us breaking their record, I've been signed up to this website for a long time, and it occurred to me in that time we've never been a Premier league club, nigh on ten years. If we finish 2nd by one point I'll be loving my life. Once promotion has been secured we can look at the title, once the title has been secured we can look at a record if it's still on. Till then I don't care what pressure others are trying to put on us by making us out to be the next Barcelona. Going up, to the Prem, is pretty much it, as it has been since the start of this season, as it has been for awhile.

Only way the record is getting broken is if England had a juventus type situation when a a top team is demoted but they keep their players

Just looking at the stats for that season. It's incredible! After having lost the opening game of the season, they went 33 games unbeaten. Lost just two games in the league.

W31 D13 L2.

While we clearly have already lost more than they did, there is possibility we could win more. 11 out of our last 18 matches it. Pretty tough ask mind.

They kept 22 clean sheets all season. Although, oddly enough PNE kept more - 24 clean sheets! That's more than half of their games!

It's my 10 year anniversary this year. That's utterly ridiculous.

15 wins from 18 if we're to do it. Can't see it.

If you said we'd be 8 points clear of 2nd and 11 off 3rd at the end of January at the start if this season I'd of probably said dream on!

You never know! Records are there to be broken :)

As much as I'd love us continue breaking records, I can't see us getting all too close to Reading's point tally. That 106 points total will stand for a long, long time.

Maybe, maybe we could reach a hundred, but that's still a wishful scenario from my perspective.

As long as we don't drop more points than the teams in 3rd to 6th place, I'm all good.

I totally agree, I am still looking over our shoulder. A win this weekend and QPR to beat Burnley and I might lighten up a little.

If we get the title with a few games to go I can see Pearson giving some of the youngsters a run out. I don't think he'll be bothered about the record.

This.

Get Ryan Watson and Cain playing.

The comment from his 'Stoke' supporting mate is not so flattering!

Mind you, cannot say my opinion of Stoke would be very flattering.

No bothered about points' records, just gaining promotion is all I care about. I can see us achieving 96 points. This allows for 5 losses and 3 draws. We will be playing teams scrapping at both ends of

the table with no easy games between now and end of the season.

We'd need 44 points from our final 18. The worst record we could do it with is 14 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats. I just don't see that happening sadly.

Then again would I have seen us winning our next seven after that QPR win? I'd have sniggered if someone suggested it. Write this Leicester side off at your own peril really.

We are averaging 2.25 points per game so far. To continue that would deliver 103 points. We could get more if we have already won the league early and can play open, relaxed attacking football with no pressures in our last few games. Our squad rotation potential should also see us in a better position for consistency than any other sides in the Championship.

Who knows? But it would be a fantastic achievement to get more than 106 points!

I would just like to secure promotion at the game at their place to repay them for when they did it at ours. That was the day we found out the ground shakes. I was in a box that day directly opposite their fans and the windows rattled as they celebrated.

Pretty sure his problem is (quite rightly) with your maths.

If we're on 85 points after 41 games we wouldn't be able to match their record. Am I missing something here?

I was talking about reaching 100 points, in response to Bilo. I said earlier that the Reading record is beyond us :)

There's an interesting paragraph in a piece in today's Mercury:

"Perhaps most remarkably, however, is the fact that Newcastle, who finished with 102 points under Chris Hughton in 2010, had only collected 53 points by the end of January. That’s 10 less than City this season."

In fact, Newcastle had 56 points at the end of January (their last match that month was a draw against City), and had played one game fewer than we have this season, but after 29 games - and losing to Derby - they still only had 59 points. On the other hand, they put together two separate seven-match winning streaks that season, winning 12 and drawing four of their last 16 games. If we did that, we would have 103 points by the end of the season.

No, I can't see it either.

TBF we were rubbish that day. But we know the perfectly good reason why.

Precisely, if he wants to base his opinion of our team on a day we fielded a weakened squad then more fool him.

Its going to take at least one hundred and several points to set this record.

lol

Now THAT'S a challenge!

I agree that with a positive momentus mindframe we could achieve this. But anyone really with their heart set on this is just greedy. Let's just be satisfied with the potential of promotion success.
