Nigel Pearson earns Manager of the Month Award

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson has been named Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month for January.

The Foxes boss collects the award after a flawless start to 2014 for his side, who won all five of their Sky Bet Championship matches during the month to move into pole position in the race for automatic promotion.

City currently lead the division by 10 points from second-placed Queens Park Rangers, having set a new Club record of nine consecutive league victories – a run that started in mid-December.

Nigel told lcfc.com: “I’m really pleased to have won the award, but I recognise individual accolades such as this as a group achievement, as you can only be a success in a team sport through collective endeavour.

“The players and backroom staff deserve an awful lot of credit for the results we have achieved in the last few weeks, but it’s vital now that we focus on the months ahead and achieving our main objective this season, which is promotion.â€

Dave Bassett, chair of the Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel, said: “January was fantastic month for Nigel Pearson, which ended with a Club-record [of consecutive wins].

“Leicester have maintained their momentum and they are now in a great position at the top of the Sky Bet Championship.â€

Sky Bet Head of Football Paul Wiggins said: “A perfect month for Nigel Pearson's Foxes has seen them leap ahead in the Sky Bet Championship title race.

“The signing of Kevin Philips paid dividends immediately as he came on to make the difference at Leeds United in what was the toughest encounter they faced in the month.â€

In Sky Bet League 1, Russell Slade of Leyton Orient was named Sky Bet Manager of the Month, while Fleetwood Town’s Graham Alexander collected the accolade in Sky Bet League 2.

The judging panel is chaired by former Football League manager Dave Bassett; Sky Sports Football League expert Don Goodman; Football League Chief Operating Officer Andy Williamson; League Managers’ Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Head of Football Paul Wiggins.

Sky Bet are Title Sponsor of The Football League. The sponsorship includes a Revenue Share deal with all 72 member clubs.

The Revenue Share generates money, paid to every club, based on the revenue generated by their fans who sign up and bet with Sky Bet.

Through this ongoing arrangement, Sky Bet are able to add another income stream to every club in the Sky Bet Football League.

Well done and well-deserved.  :appl:

Watford is a big game now though...they need to be punished. I for one think the players will still be burnt by the playoffs and this will be a grudge match for them still. I think we'll batter them personally. They can't defend currently and we could easily get a hat full. Fingers crossed.

The MOTM curse is a total myth, amazes me that so many believe in it.

The point is that anything other than four straight wins after this award will lead to a comparative downturn in form, especially after nine consecutive wins. The kind of exceptional form that earns an MOTM award cannot be maintained for long, and we're no different.

Our winning run will almost certainly end this month, we will lose games between now and May, but that's nothing to do with a curse. It just shows that we aren't Barcelona.

Oh, and well done Nige.

That might not be the last award he gets this season, either.  :pearson:

Completely agree. Obviously I never want us to lose but it will be even worse if we do tomorrow because people will continue to believe this shite.

If we beat Watford can everybody agree to never talk about 'the curse' ever again

This time last year Nigel won the same award and what followed was relegation form for the rest of the season.

Be gone my fears and let's demolish those arrogant Hornet pricks at the weekend?!

Never subscribed to this curse lark !! I believe you make your own luck but this season has been superb so far full of hard work and great performances from the squad and superb job by Nigel Pearson who well and truly deserves this award !!

Hoping we can continue this superb form with a nice cheeky little demolition of Watford and repay them for the playoffs well done Nigel !!

IN NIGEL WE TRUST !

Please someone tell me they just heard him on SSN. about when he fought off wild dogs in romania?!

Well deserved.

Not a case of believing the myth, but it seems strange sometimes when the next game is a defeat. Bruce got it last year when Hull were performing well, then lost at home to struggling Sheffield Wednesday.

Can't believe all this nonsense about a curse, get a grip. What ever the result against Watford, IT WILL BE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MOTM AWARD.

Well done Nige, well deservered

I'm sure we'd all love to win every game if if that happens, guess what... The manager WILL win MOTM!!

Fcvk it lets win all febs games and NP gets another MOTM then I don't care if this stupid curse thing starts ;p

Well done Nigel :pearson::wub: but this somewhat devalues the award "Sky Sports Football League expert Don Goodman".

Surprised Mark Warburton did not win the League One award. He has had an incredible run at Brentford since replacing Rosler. First job in management too. And an ex-LCFC trainee many years ago.

The power of any curse is if people believe it, if this sort of talk starts getting into the players and managers heads then it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy, we all know that sport can be as much a mental test as a physical one, and footballers are a superstitious lot. I wouldn't be surprised if since the stories of a curse more teams lost the game after winning the Manager of the Month award than before this curse existed.

It's like Voodoo, the power is in your mind...

There is no curse, you just after win most if not all games in a month to get the award, so to continue that form is rather difficult. I think we will beat Watford, and Forest have a heavy schedule and are struggling with injuries, we should at least get a point there. Therefore proving there is no curse.
