Leicester City can still be caught... Arry Redknapp!

Personally I was happy he didn't get the England job, and at spurs I don't think he did anything special. Got into the champions league but at that point they should of been, and never around the place they were at when he took over. All in all he did what he was expected to do and is an average manager IMO. However he is a likeable 'character'

Whenever people talk about "characters" I'm reminded of what Linda Smith said about Anne Widdecombe: She is a character, in that it would have been better if she had been fictional.

No manager can be classed as anything other than dreadful if, when his club is relegated with the sort of wage bill QPR has, he fails to try to cut it and instead adds to his squad with numerous Premier League rejects with zero motivation, zero passion for the club and only interested in picking up their fat wage. Pearson has shown him how its done.

On the other hand, you might just as well be talking about City during the Sven era... Just saying

Mate, I usually like your posts, as you know. But I kinda lost interest with the analogy to Huntley.

Regarding my 'making excuses' for Redknapp, well read back thru. I've said on more than one occassion that Arry is the King of excuses. I've also said that if he doesn't take QPR up this season, it will be a bigger balls-up than Sven was at City.

What I've set out to not do is:

A. Call him a cvnt (or similar).. he clearly isn't.

B. Write off QPR so early.. there's lots of matches left.

Why have I done neither? Cos its too easy.. I'd rather try to balance the thread out.

If you'd rather think of me as some lover of Arry (perish the fookin thought lol) be my guest. Thats easy too.

Gallows humour, some like it, some don't.

I haven't written them off yet at all, they are still in the playoffs, I do think they will be in the lottery of the play offs though and for this wage bill, it's not a position I'd want to be in.

You could well be right buddy.. I reckon Arry may well be shitting himself a little just now. Lose on Saturday and they are getting into trouble no doubt.

100% with Col on the Huntley reference: not funny in any way at any time, ever.

To be fair, he took the club from the bottom of the division and then made the Champions League. I know the squad shouldn't have been anywhere near the bottom of the division, but he did a good job in that aspect imo.

I don't like how he's operating thing's at QPR, but then again I'm not too bothered because they have a squad that should be competing for a top six place yet he seems to have added more individuals to the somewhat overrated and overpaid squad. As long as they stay away from us in the table.

But I do like Harry in terms of how he comes across, he always tells the truth and will admit when they have been poor where as others won't *cough Billy Davies.

Yea I do think he did well to take them back up the league, but I don't think it had to take a great manager to do so. However I do agree with pretty much everything you wrote there

Having supported city 51 years next mouth, I have been reading various posts for some years. I am a true blue, city come before my missus and work, I don't like any other club in any way.

However, I do feel sorry for HR as he is old school, my age group (on borrowed time) and out of his depth. He strikes me as a "back of a fag packet" type planner, normal for the 1980/1990's. Easy target for you youngsters. I guarantee if you had a few drinks with him you would have great night out. Probably reminds me of my Dad, born in the smoke with the gift of the gab.

Harry is doing his best, but lucky for us he is out of his depth, he clearly does not have a team around him, whereas NP does. We need to keep him in his job as QPR are heading for 7th place at best (on current form). Bottom line HR is a 1990's manager, 20 years behind his time. It happens in many walks of life just more transparent in a job in the public eye.

He is a decent geezer, doesn't deserve the personal insults.

Some good points there.

The bloke has clearly lost the love of "finding a player" so to speak and little of no effort has gone into it for a long time now, every job he gets these days it seems to be all the old mates in from clubs he managed or a phone call to an ex club to ask for a decent youngster.

Get some cash and it's the obvious ones (Phillips and Austin) everyone is after and just shell out big fees to scare people off.

The chance of him finding a Matty James or a Danny Drinkwater are an absolute zero unless they happen to end up at Spurs or West Ham.

I'd love to know how the last player he bought through a youth team was.

3 things from this thread:

1. Redknapp would be a great lad to have a pint with.

2. He has not done a good job at QPR

3. In my sole opinion, he is probably a tax dodger, but he's not alone in that.

Finally, DT's posts have been brilliant-thoroughly enjoyed every one. Bootiful..

This threads funny from the start to the finish if you read back, after all the hatred when he was still a direct rival back to Good old 'Arry character we mostly associate him with.

He isn't a bad manager by any stretch of the imagination but as you find in football, it's all about the fit.

If if fits the club and feels right.

He fitted West Ham, Portsmouth and Tottenham and he didn't fit Southampton and possibly now QPR isn't a good fit.

Doesn't make him bad or incompetent, just not the right person for the job at hand.

I have sympathy with the man purely on he similarity that he was let go for some Portuguese bloke who just wasn't as good, spent some money and was sacked not long after. Turns out that only works if your name is Jose Mourinho.

It wasn't me that said it but in future can I bring comments or articles to you so you can tell me if they're funny or not? Sometimes I'm not sure if something is funny but I didn't realise FT had its own comedy adjudicator to tell me.

If you think jokes about child murderers are funny, I'd rather you ignored me, thanks all the same.

I don't necessarily think Redknapp should be sacked, especially at this point, but considering what he's spent in over a year they should be pissing this league. Comparing them to Reading and Wigan is wide of the mark. He has no excuses.

Like most people I want jumped up slimy cvnt to fail though.

Change a few names, and it's us a couple of years ago. We really should be grateful for the manager and (I say this perhaps against my better judgement) the owners we've got. And I'll continue to say that, even if we drop into the playoffs and get knocked out in the first round by Derby. So there. :sweating:  lol

I'm no fan of Redknapp, although I do think his youth set-up at West Ham was fantastic, and he did do a good job for Spurs while he was there. But the idea that QPR should sack him now seems bizarre in the extreme. A few facts:

1. QPR were relegated last season behind Reading and Wigan (11 points behind Wigan)

2. This season, QPR have not been out of the top five places in the Championship: Reading have not been above 4th, and Wigan have not been higher than 7th

3. QPR have lost three matches on the trot, but in January (or, as some would say, last fooking month) they won four on the trot, and drew the other match they played.

QPR's only seven points off the second automatic promotion spot, with a game in hand over Burnley. Personally I don't think they will make it, but they are nailed-on for the playoffs - unless they press the panic button, as they have in the past two seasons.

Comparing them to Reading -  didn't really add in the summer, just kept their squad together as best they could - and Wigan - lost a number of good players (McCarthy, Di Santo, Kone, Figueroa, Alcaraz as examples) and only added a couple of replacements: getting in £19m and spending £5m -  is a bit deceptive

QPR meanwhile have kept all but Taarabt, Samba, Mbia, Remy & Park Ji-Sung, and added Asso-ekotto, Krancjar, Doyle, Dunne, Benayoun, Austin, Phillips & O'Neil - lost a couple of good players and brought in 5 internationals, 2 who set the championship alight last season and plenty of prem experience.

For the dealings made, they should be doing far better, but Redknapp isn't good enough to do so.
