What Game Are You Playing At The Moment ?

Got a surprisingly beastly new machine to replace my 4 years old piece of shit computer so I've spent all afternoon running around Witcher 3 in glorious ultra definition and the thing's not even broken a sweat.  Plus the new setup's both cheaper and more energy efficient than aforementioned piece of shit, all with shiny RGB to boot.  PC master race ftw.

Can you share a link to your machine? Specs etc. I’m thinking of upgrading.

https://www.scan.co.uk/products/3xs-gamer-s-rtx-intel-core-i7-9700f-16gb-ddr4-8gb-asus-rtx-2060-super-1tb-ssd-win-10

That's the exact build, it was one of their daily offers when I spotted it so I got it for about £200 less (on credit with a decent enough deposit that I've 'only' got about £40/m left to pay for the next 2 years).  The case is far sleeker than the uninspiring block those pictures make it appear as.

No peripherals or inbuilt WiFi (I've been using a usb stick for years anyway), but you're always going to get more bang for your buck the less extra bits you require.  Case in point my housemate got an all in one deal (tower, monitor and all peripherals) from PC Specialist recently despite having all the kit already and now he's got a significantly inferior build for basically the same outlay, maybe even a slightly bigger one, pretty sure he regrets that decision now!  So yeah that's something else to consider.

Obviously I have no idea where that sits relative to your budget but I fully recommend Scan as a supplier regardless.  Cyberpowered UK also had some attractive offers so maybe give their site a looky loo too.  PC Specialist can get in the bin imo.

Edit:  Also worth noting that although it's fun to play around with each company's pc builder you're probably better off using using it more to get an idea of what's within your budget then looking for a pre-specced machine with the components you've settled on - that's how I ended up finding the one above by sorting builds by the GPU I wanted.  This bad boy has it paired with a significantly better CPU than I dared put in my builds because it would have thrown me off budget.  Chicken dinner.

Didn't want to start a separate thread for this, but does anyone else notice trophies/achievements in games where something that you achieve easily in the first couple of hours of a game is only completed by 40% of players (or sometimes considerably fewer)?

I have loads of bronze trophies which are classed as very rare, with single figure completion rates. It's like people play games and give up in the first 30 mins.

I know I'm guilty of that a lot more now.

It's like the problem with Netflix and Prime Video. There's so many games now, and they're so easy to access (what with offers, free games/trials, or video-game library style subscriptions) that it's almost overwhelming. I have so little free time now that if I spend an hour or two on a game and it hasn't gripped me, then I tend to just give up on it now rather than powering through, and just move on to a different game.

That being said, started Divinity 2 a couple of weeks ago, and clocked tons of hours already.

Just did a Lost mission in War of the Chosen where I was able to get my squad up high and I had the between the eyes headshot perk. Free AP for each kill... we were scything them down... felt proper zombie apocalypse.

Great expansion.

Didn’t want to do a new thread for this and hopefully people have alerts turned on in this post.

Mortal Kombat 11 is free to download and play only over this weekend (PS 4) if that floats your boat.

Not the full game (locked characters like T2 etc) and some stages are locked but enough to give you a flavour of the game.

I’m already liking it more than XL.

Not entirely convinced it’s as fluid as XL...so if MK is your thing, download and try it.

Its also £35 not £55ish too.

Just tried Kabal and liked him.

It’s a little darker than XL in terms of graphics and in terms of being sinister. I may buy it this weekend.

***EDIT

Seems I was wrong. A load of characters were downloading in the background as I played a few rounds with Kabal. New fight areas have also downloaded. Looks like the full game.

Graphics are much better than XL.

Loving Johnny Cage’s fatality in MK 11

Brought a big ol’ Smile to my face

I now can beat Civ 6 at Deity playing any random civilisation. Great game but clearly not difficult enough as on any time frame you can still get new tech far too quickly and there are certain new tech which give you too much of an advantage from Archer's early on to bombers later.

RPG at the moment is Greedfall, pleasant without being taxing.

@Finnegan and @Beliall I am now into September in WotC. I have a couple of colonels and a few majors, and I have contacted the Templars and the Reapers... but no sign of the Skirmishers. Have I missed something and if so, are they gone for good? Can't seem to find any info on how contacting the factions happens, I just know that I have twice and there's one missing, even though I've done a ton of faction missions and encountered (and occasionally defeated) all the Chosen.

there should have been a mission that introduced you to the skirmishers when they met with the reapers and you saw the lost for the first time. that guy, pratal mox got captured, later on you get to rescue him and that is when i believe you gain the location on their base. further skirmisher troops are aquired via the spy missions

Nope, I've seen the Lost and Abandoned mission, which is apparently the one that gives you them, but it can apparently be deselected, so not sure if that's why or because I'm playing on PS4.

I've certainly not played the Lost and Abandoned mission, it's quite unique and I think I'd remember it.

To be honest I've really only used the faction abilities and found the actual troops a bit naff.

Just playing through Skyrim at the moment on PC for the first time. Doing a normal playthrough then going to do a modded one. I've done various ones on the Xbox 360/One. The graphics on my laptop look way better.

Ultimate Edition?

See you in 6 months.

Got bored and bought something called Greedfall on a whim.

It's like Dragon Age set in colonial era France with cheesy bad accents, weird janky translations and a strong under current of Avataresque post-colonial guilt.

Kinda fun but not entirely sure I should have paid 45 quid for it.

Yeah. Got all the DLCs and updated/remastered HD graphics.

I'm loving it, just feels completely different with a mouse and keyboard rather than a controller.

Oh yeah, some games play better with a controller but RPGs tend to benefit from all the extra buttons a PC allows, especially if you get one of those gaming mice with a number pad on the side for even quicker access to hot buttons.

Tbf it looks pretty good. Graphics look amazing. How is the actual game?

Visually it's really very nice.

The story is alright, runs out of steam a bit but it's interesting.

Gameplay is much more role play than combat. You're a diplomat and you do shit loads of diplomatting. Spending hours between fights running around talking to people and negotiating.

If you'd find that boring this game is not for you.
