dorsetboy Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 im not gonna be a fool and say when we go up cuz as jimmy use to say footballs a funny old game but how does the ffp work and newly promoted clubs ? how much would we be able to spend ? i prosume you can only spend x amount more than income , so they say going into the prem is worth 80-100 million now plus gate reciepts and merchandise ,tv abroad etc etc does this mean if the owners really wanted to we could spend say 100 million ( i know that prob wont happen ) only reason i ask is because a mate seems to think that we can only spend 8 million plus 5 million extra from the owners ?

KIRBYFOX93 Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 We have a budget of 50 mil declared by the owners if we go up...
EnglishOxide Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 I hope we spend nothing. Or next to nothing at least. I want to see if the current group can step it up again like this season. Relying on team spirit, a close knitted group and hard work. We can assess where we are in January and buy from there. I genuinely think the current crop could do a better job than Cardiff who have spunked loads of money and pretty much havent improved.

Agree with this post, keeping player input to a minimum or not at all. I think Pearson will do just this, possibly 2-3 players.

I genuinely think the current crop could do a better job than Cardiff who have spunked loads of money and pretty much havent improved. I agree entirely. I remember when O'Neill took us up being really surprised and frustrated that we did fvck all in the close season after Wembley, then ended up buying Kasey Keller, Spencer Prior and (I think) no-one else. Sunderland, who went up as champions that year, splashed out on loads of players, including spending a record amount on Niall Quinn. During the January window we bought Matt Elliott and no-one else. But we stayed up, finishing 9th, and Sunderland went straight back down again. One thing I really like about Pearson is that he seems to have a long view. I reckon he's brought in a mix of players, most of whom he thinks can hack it in the Premiership. He'll add maybe a two or three more, and perhaps the odd loan signing, but I really can't see him splashing out millions on the combination of has-beens and never-weres that people like Cardiff and QPR signed in the past couple of years.
gazza37 Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 I also agree, although even against Stoke in the FA Cup you could tell the difference in class and composure on the ball. But hopefully the current squad would grow into this as the season progresses if we go up. Also gives me hope that we could stay up when you see how Hull, Cardiff and Palace are getting on and comparing their teams last season to ours this year. Captain... Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 The bottom club in the premiership now receives £63m in tv revenue and prize money, it can be more if they feature in more than the minimum number of tv games. Assuming we are currently within ffp, and our wages are covered by revenue, and ignoring the fact that we will have increased gates, sponsorship, and merchandise revenue, we can potentially use all of that to improve the squad, then any investment the Thais can make on top of that. Hopefully some of it will be used to clear the debt on the stadium, but £50m sounds about right, including wages and fees. The problem will be attracting the right players, not affording them.
jonthefox Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Surely the thai's will want to start clawing some money back.
foxfanazer Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 I'd be happy with 2 or 3 signings to make us a bit more solid but I'd want to see the majority of the current squad given a chance. They deserve it! A left back and a winger are musts for me and maybe a premier league experienced striker. Also replacing any departures
Guest ttfn Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Surely the thai's will want to start clawing some money back. I'm not sure they will. It may be that they see us as completely free advertising (less the opportunity cost of not having an actual shirt sponsor) across the world. The King Power logo is plastered on training kit, the first XI kit, all over the stadium and will be behind the managers for post-match press conferences. Barclays currently pay £40 million per year to sponsor the Premier League and whilst the reach of their sponsorship extends to naming the league, it gives you a feel as to how much this may be worth to King Power's brand. If they see City as part of their overall business empire, it could well be that even by making small (and I mean much smaller than we've seen in the last two years) losses in the club itself, they could be making more money across their businesses as a result of the free advertising. Also, they may be looking to sell the club in the long-run rather than take cash out now as dividends. If there is one thing that is apparent about football ownership it's that despite the fact people have grand ideas about making money from it, people nearly always lose money. Some idiot will buy it off King Power if we stay in the Premier League and they'll get their money back that way. I don't actually think we need to spend much on the squad anyway if we go up. 4 or 5 new players should do it, and probably only 2-3 of those would need to be absolute top quality guaranteed starters.

This problem of attracting the right players is a big one. I'm sure players and their agents see promoted clubs as a gateway into the premier league, to use in an game of hopscotch from mid table to relegation battle to mid table ect... Qpr are an example of the kind of poor players that get into the premier league. It is essential that the manager can bat away all the pressuring from agents and sift out the crap from the good talent with the potential to progress the team. Thankfully I think Pearson is more than capable of this and will avoid building a team of players only interested in their own personal premier league survival than the team as a whole. Onwards and upwards. To resurrect a phrase often used by City fans during the 80's from the yazoo song, 'the only way is up.'
Happy Fox Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Who knows, but I expect NP will be prudent with the wonga, Steve Walsh will identify some more gems because we would have the money to get them! Remember this is a man who scouted Drogba for Chelsea and so many other quality players we are in good hands.

Remember this is a man who scouted Drogba for Chelsea and so many other quality players we are in good hands. I'm very, very excited to see who we manage to recruit. I know for a fact that we scouted Robert Lewandowski when he was still at Lech Poznan, and like you said - Steve Walsh unearthed some gems for Chelsea as well, so it's obvious he's got a real eye for quality. I'm hoping we bring in a couple of players I've never heard of who go on to be absolute class!
Pookie Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 You can name 25 man squad for the Premier League, Below is the current squad and those out on loan, I have put who I think are out of contract at the end of the season in Italics and those who I don't think are good enough to cut it in the Premier League in bold. You have to remember we have been very lucky with injuries this season being able to name an unchanged side for quite a few games on the bounce. Don't get me wrong, we have a very talented 1st 11, but to me the squad is a bit thin remain in the Premier League. That said; in his second spell you can't really fault the player recruitment of Pearson and his management team and I am confident that they will target the right sort of players to add value to the ones they want to keep. 1 Goalkeeper - Kasper Schmeichel (vice-captain) 2 Defender - Ritchie De Laet 3 Defender - Paul Konchesky 4 Midfielder - Danny Drinkwater 5 Defender - Wes Morgan (club captain) 7 Midfielder - Dean Hammond 8 Midfielder - Matty James 9 Forward - Jamie Vardy 10 Midfielder - Andy King 11 Midfielder - Lloyd Dyer 12 Defender - Sean St Ledger 15 Forward - Jeff Schlupp 18 Defender - Liam Moore 20 Forward - Tom Hopper 21 Defender - Zoumana Bakayogo 22 Forward - Gary Taylor-Fletcher 23 Defender - Ignasi Miquel (on loan from Arsenal) 24 Midfielder - Anthony Knockaert 25 Goalkeeper - Conrad Logan 26 Midfielder - Riyad Mahrez 27 Defender - Marcin Wasilewski 28 Forward - Kevin Phillips 31 Goalkeeper - Adam Smith 35 Forward - David Nugent 39 Forward - Chris Wood Out on Loan 6 Defender - Zak Whitbread (on loan to Derby County until the end of the season) 14 Forward - Martyn Waghorn (on loan to Wigan Athletic until the end of the season) 16 Midfielder - Neil Danns (on loan to Bolton Wanderers until the end of the season) 17 Midfielder - Paul Gallagher (on loan to Preston North End until the end of the season) 29 Forward - Márkó Futács (on loan to Diósgyőri until the end of the season) — Defender - Alie Sesay (on loan to Colchester United until the end of the season) — Midfielder - Michael Cain (on loan to Mansfield Town until the 22 March 2014)

I think we'd be able to spend considerably more on scouting than Hull could a few years back too. Should be an interesting summer!
Guest MattP Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 It's not a question of how much, more a question of how you spend. I'd rather have a 15 million kitty with Nigel in charge than a 100 million kitty with Sven or Redknapp in charge. We'll be prudent and sensible again, as previous posters have mentioned we have people connected to our scouting system that have previously unearthed some genuine World Class players for reasonable prices.

Depends if we strengthen in midfield or not, I think the partnership of James and Drinky is great but I'm not sure whether they could cut it in the PL. Think King is decent enough backup too.

It depends if we bring in another midfielder, which we should, a 25 man squad is effectively 3 keepers, 4 CB, 4 FB, 4 CM, 4 WM, 4 FWD +2 in any position, normally forwards. Our CM options would be DD, James, King, +1, I think that +1 needs to be better than Hammond, a bit part championship player whose best is behind him, whether it is an established prem midfielder, a young French wizard, or a very experienced player at that level like Parker if Fulham go down.
yorkie1999 Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Ive heard if we go up, the first time we play man utd it will earn us 25 million in thailand.
Fox92 Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 It is all about how you spend, and who you bring in, not how much you have to spend. Nige is a manager who is quite coy with signings, he knows what he's doing and has decent staff around him who help well. The last thing we want to do, and I know Nige wouldn't do this, is spend millions on players who don't care about the club. What Hughes did at QPR.

A few more hard workers with potential, no billy big boys, no high earners. I genuinely think these are more important than overall talent to survive in the Prem. The Premiership is very weak at the moment and I think we have a good chance of scrapping against a lot of those in the bottom half. A bit of Prem experience would be nice as well, preferably English or someone who's been here for a while. Ive heard if we go up, the first time we play man utd it will earn us 25 million in thailand. wat
Lionator Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 If we can grab somebody who can have the impact of Huddlestone at Hull then I'd be happy.
