LanguedocFox Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/football-league/scout-still-pulling-rabbits-out-of-hats-2265688.html Good article on Steve Walsh here, just goes to show that they really do leave no stone unturned. I think we'd be able to spend considerably more on scouting than Hull could a few years back too. Should be an interesting summer! Good article, and says a lot about why we've done so well on and off the field.
foxfanazer Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 If we can grab somebody who can have the impact of Huddlestone at Hull then I'd be happy. What about Huddlestone from Hull?
MrSpaM Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 The owners are going to be trying to get some really decent players on our books. Remember it wasn't that long ago we were trying to get Beckham to join us ffs, and that was in the Championship!I trust Nigel to spend sensibly, but I've got a funny feeling our owners are going to splash the cash big time should we go up. Honestly don't know whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, but it's pretty obvious the owners want us to be an established premier league side, and as decent as our current squad is, we are going to have to strengthen significantly if they want that to come to fruition. It's not like we haven't got the funds to get some considerable quality in the side without FFP looming over our books.
Jace Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 There is no spending restriction in the Premiership it is not affected by FFP, if there was a 8 million limit plus additional 5 million investment from the owners restriction I don't think the top clubs would be spending over £40 million + on players and upto £350,000 per week on weekly wages
Foxymcoxy Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 **** me I had no idea Walsh had THAT good a record. What a man.

I think they might want to make a 'marquee' signing, but I think it'll be within Nigel's control. He won't accept signing someone just for the name, rather than whether they'll fit into the squad or whether they're actually up for playing for Leicester City. Hopefully the owners have realised after the Sven debacle that signing players based on reputation alone isn't actually the wisest thing to do. Someone like Scott Parker, who is an asbolute model pro and Premier League veteren who's been there and done it all would add some invaluable experience to the squad and would probably fit both criteria - a player that Pearson would want and a potential 'name' for the Thais.
Tommy G Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 We need some experience who have been there and done that, we have plenty of youth in the team. Sidwell & Bent if Fulham go down. Cresswell from Ipswich Fletcher if sunderland go down Think Seb Larsson is out of contract in the summer, on form he's decent. I doubt whoever we predict, NP won't get any of them!

Corky Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 I reckon Nige will spend £15 million at most, he loves a tight-knit unit far more than just collecting players for the sake of it. I doubt he'll do a Cardiff and spend £8 million on a Danish striker, for £15 million we'll probably get 7 players.
Captain... Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 I reckon Nige will spend £15 million at most, he loves a tight-knit unit far more than just collecting players for the sake of it. I doubt he'll do a Cardiff and spend £8 million on a Danish striker, for £15 million we'll probably get 7 players. But if you have a budget of £50 million (obviously that will include wages) you would be mad not to spend it, when survival is so important and profitable to the club, I think in some ways it would be a blessing in disguise if Kasper and Nugent left at the end of their contract as it would give the club clear targets that they could afford to pay for, I don't want either to go, but it could be worse spending big bucks on a player, say centre mid, who proves to be no better than James or DD, or on a winger who ends up being out performed by Dyer, or a striker who isn't scoring, this could be detrimental to morale having a big earner under performing but keeping other players out the side, whereas having to replace Kasper and Nugent wouldn't have the same effect. Apart from LB there is no area where I would say we definitely need to improve the first team. This coming transfer window is probably the most important in the clubs history.
MooseBreath Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 In the championship debt is limited to £3m + £5m owner investment. If you exceed this you get a transfer ban or a fine if you get promoted. In the premiership at present they are saying you are allowed a debt of £105m over three seasons. If you exceed this you could get a points deduction. So if we take that on face value we could spend all of the tv money plus say half of that £105m on an initial squad building spree in the summer, so we could spend well over £100m if we wanted without having to worry too much about premier league ffp. Realistically i reckon we are only limited by how much the owners will be willing to put in, which will probably be quite a lot. In some ways I'd like to see the current squad given a go, in other ways I think we should use Pearson and Shakey before they move on to a bigger club to build a genuinely quality premiership team. I think the latter is more likely since everyone involved has a lot of ambition, and we'll see some serious money being spent in the summer.
Jace Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 1 problem Pearson will have if we are not performing there won't be any excuses, it will be very interesting to see who he buys I doubt there are many more Jamie Vardys out there who can step up to the Premier League.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 I can envisage three to four players being permanent signings, plus a few loan signings.

We don't have time for another Jamie Vardy that needs a season to bed in and find his feet, not saying we shouldn't buy players with potential, but we will need players that can come in and make an instant positive impact, we are a very good team at the moment, but the Prem is a very different beast.
Jace Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Exactly, I heard a little rumour he has his eye on Falcao after the Monaco match

Finn Claw II Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Maximum losses are £105m over a 3 year period with stadium, facilities and academy spend offset. The max wage bill is £56m is the real constraint but that is still tonnes of money. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2274957/Financial-Fair-Play-Premier-League-agree-financial-cap-clubs-face-points-deduction.html FC
fuchsntf Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Man at arms,He-man and Skeletor ,and a few lads from that International rescue team, not forgetting new club catain, Captain scarlett, and a coaching staff made up from the mysterons.

The top clubs need to worry about the UEFA ffp rules which apply to clubs competing in european competitions. I believe they are tougher than the premier league rules. Above the championship it all still seems like a bit of a mess to me. For example the premiership rules will only consider a punishment if a club is significantly over the limits. Which could mean anything really
MPH Posted 8 March 2014 Posted 8 March 2014 I think it's a little naive of some posters to think we would stand a chance in the prem without some decent investment. I don't want a whole new team, or anything but we'll probably need 3 or 4 new players.
Dan Posted 8 March 2014 Posted 8 March 2014 Don't care what we spend as long as it isn't absolutely ridiculous, and as long as the right type of names are in. I trust Pearson, Shakespeare & Walsh to deliver on both points. 5/6 signings will be enough. Can see us signing Aaron Cresswell & Filip Djordevic, for a couple of names.
Dan Posted 8 March 2014 Posted 8 March 2014 I'm not sure they will. It may be that they see us as completely free advertising (less the opportunity cost of not having an actual shirt sponsor) across the world. The King Power logo is plastered on training kit, the first XI kit, all over the stadium and will be behind the managers for post-match press conferences. Barclays currently pay £40 million per year to sponsor the Premier League and whilst the reach of their sponsorship extends to naming the league, it gives you a feel as to how much this may be worth to King Power's brand. If they see City as part of their overall business empire, it could well be that even by making small (and I mean much smaller than we've seen in the last two years) losses in the club itself, they could be making more money across their businesses as a result of the free advertising. Also, they may be looking to sell the club in the long-run rather than take cash out now as dividends. If there is one thing that is apparent about football ownership it's that despite the fact people have grand ideas about making money from it, people nearly always lose money. Some idiot will buy it off King Power if we stay in the Premier League and they'll get their money back that way. I don't actually think we need to spend much on the squad anyway if we go up. 4 or 5 new players should do it, and probably only 2-3 of those would need to be absolute top quality guaranteed starters. I've said this all along with them. I don't think they've bought Leicester to make money at Leicester, they've bought Leicester to expand the King Power brand and getting us into the Premier League allows for that. These figures are completely made up and based on nothing, but for example... they could lose £5mil at Leicester but in doing so, they've indirectly made £10mil for King Power. That's how I've seen it.
