if we go up what can we spend ?

We'll need more than 5 players, we would have to sign around 8 but the majority being squad players.

I'd see NP spending about 7-8 at most on a player, I think he'd spend relatively little in decent squad players probably from France/Holland/Portugal.

Im hoping we can nick a few relegated players tbh (if these teams do get relegated):

Redmond from Norwich

Caulker from Cardiff

Sidwell- Fulham

Steven Fletcher Sunderland

Then just generally:

Cresswell

2/3 foreign players that we've had on the radar deliberately for the premiership.

I expect 4/5/6 players in, with us spending about £15-£18 million.

Man at arms,He-man and Skeletor ,and a few lads from that International rescue team, not forgetting new club catain,

Captain scarlett, and a coaching staff made up from the mysterons.

Need mumraa the ever living and she-ra for post match shagging

Couple of players in. Keep the rest of the money and see what happens. If we go down we'd be in great financial shape. Blowing your wad on the premier dream is frankly ridiculous.

The good thing with Nigel is that he doesn't just sign players, he signs certain people who he knows he will be able to integrate into a team and who will all work hard for one another.

That being said, it will definitely be interesting to see who we bring in should we get promoted and have a decent budget. Steve Walsh has found some right players in his time.

For some reason steven fletcher goes for big money, that would blow your buget to pieces.

Nige will already have an idea of who he wants. As soon as we are up u think the wheels will be set in motion.

This is the problem with the prem. Some completely average players go for ridiculous sums of money, I heard during the transfer window that Stoke were among the highest spenders in the premier league over the last season or two. A manager who can find good quality players (at a good price) with a fresh hunger and desire while managing to stay clear of the premier league journey men that infect teams with their mediocrity is a must. Fortunately for us Pearson and Walsh have proven in the past they are capable of this, in fact it seems to be their ethos. With them in charge the club is well looked after. We are in good hands.

The £8m/£5m figure is to do with the Football League's FFP rules.

Clubs are allowed losses of up to £8m of which £5m can come from owner loans/investment.

Not sure on FFP rules in the Premier League, but with Nigel Pearson in charge we'll be nowhere near them, the signings of 20ish year old like Drinkwater, James & Mahrez show he's interested in up & coming talent who can improve over time, buoyed by the odd smattering of experience like Morgan & Phillips is how we roll.

Think we need a piece of Premier class though, like Huddlestone has done for Hull

As a side note, I think there's more to get right than just 1-3 key signings:

We surely will have to play with a 3 man midfield not the 2 man as currently, & while our 433 was okay at not losing games to halt our bad run last season, but we never really looked like winners with it, same goes for our 352 at the beginning of this season.

If we do change the way we play the bulk of these players have shown they haven't been able to adapt in the past.

So if we do go down that route then a few more changes than is ideal may need to be made

I'd expect 5 players or so to come but all relatively young to build on in the Premier League. Most of the newly promoted clubs try buying old, proven players when they are often past it and Nigel seems to get the best out of the younger lot i.e Moore Drinky James

Would like to see:

Caulker

Cresswell

Coquelin

Lamela/Gnabry on loan

Possibly Ashley Cole if he's going cheap?

Would probably cost around £20 mill plus though

Interesting post what makes you think that 4-4-2 wouldn't be successful in the prem?

We don't really play 4-4-2 as such Nugent drops off into the midfield De Laet and Konchesky/ Schlupp play as Wing Backs, to support the attack.

I totally agree. we are better off getting up and coming prem players, than the so called experienced guys, that are past their sell by date. I.e. Danny Graham.

Basically 2 men in the middle will be over-ran, with relative ease.

Truly, I believe formations are for chumps & Championship Manager anal retentives.

It's all about tactics & like you say Nugent drops deeper & we're more a 4411.

Most joy in the Prem seems to come from the 451 variation - 4231, with most clubs using 2 deep midfielders to cover a defence where fullbacks play like wingers, on top of that 3 attacking midfielders look to run past a lone forward. Chelsea would be 20+pts clear if they had a top /lone/ forward.

Anyway, back to us

Will 2 men cope with being outnumbered, not just occasionally, but almost every week?

Who at the top level plays with 2 up top & a midfield duo?

Can we do it?

He was just a general example. However, hes completely out of favour there, apparently him and Poyet dont see eye to eye so any team could probably pick him up on the cheap.

I don't think it matters how much we can spend. We know the Thais are sitting on piles of cash that they are willing to throw at us but it's Pearson's team. He'll spend what he needs to spend which I'd imagine will be around £10-15 million, possibly a bit less.

I don't feel Fletcher would not suit the way we play... It'll be like playin a slower wood who I'd say is struggling with our way of playing (constant pressing from the attackers)

Obviously pearson might change the way we play more often if we get in the prem... I am really looking forward to see what players we would go for!

Fletcher was just a general example not specifically him! (I.e an experienced prem striker)

We need some experience who have been there and done that, we have plenty of youth in the team.

Sidwell & Bent if Fulham go down.

Cresswell from Ipswich

Fletcher if sunderland go down

Think Seb Larsson is out of contract in the summer, on form he's decent.

I doubt whoever we predict, NP won't get any of them!

Not sure about some of these. Wouldn't take either of the Fulham duo, especially Bent, whose striking record for the past couple of seasons has been poor.

Seb Larrson would be a gamble too - the consensus from Sunderland fans seems to be that he's lost a bit of the promise he showed in his Birmingham days and first season for them. I may possibly put that down to the turmoil at the club staffwise though, and a settled coaching set-up like ours could help him.

Cresswell's worth a go - though I'd imagine there may be others in the race for him, and I wouldn't write off Ipswich making the play-offs and maybe going up themselves at this point, though that is seemingly unlikely.

I'm not sure if Fletcher's worth the risk either - he's becoming more injury prone, and his strike record (admittedly in a higher division) is no better than what we have currently in Nugent and Vardy.

Man City play 442, the general consensus is that that they have the best squad in the league, although they have games in hand they're in 4th place.

Even with Yaya Touré in midfield Silva or Fernandinho Man City struggle against the better sides that play with3 in the middle so I don't think Drinky and James would dominate like they do now.

I think we would be fine playing a 433 with a Diame type player behind the current central pairing if we have pace up front.

I'm quite excited for next season. Having Steve Walsh here and with this reputation of finding good, quality players, it's going to be interesting to see who he was recommended to Pearson.
