Leicester City FC applies for planning permission to widen pitch

By Leicester Mercury  |  Posted: April 24, 2014

Leicester City FC has applied for planning permission to widen one of the practice pitches at its training ground, so it is a similar size to the playing surface at its King Power ground.

The football club has three training pitches at its base at Belvoir Drive, off Aylestone Road.

One is 97 metres long and 59 metres wide, while the stadium pitch is 105 metres by 68 metres.

An applicationicon1.png submitted to Leicester City Council by the club said: "It is important that the size of their main training pitches mirrors the pitch at the King Power stadium."

Planning officers are considering the scheme.

why would they need planning permission on something as simple as making a football pitch bigger?

Seems odd, last time I looked football pitches are marked with white lines, I'd suggest they just need a tape measure!!!

I thought this place was unfit for purpose Milan and that the only way to achieve Premier League standard facilities for the good of Leicester City FC was to sell the land and permanently move to borrowing Loughborough Uni's facilities?! :dunno:

You need planning permission for everything, if they need to move back the fences to give them the space to extend it then it will need PP.

You believed that?

It was all about the many pound notes he would receive from developers.

Of course I didn't believe that! Is was sarcasm hence the '?!'....

This is another one for the "he saved us"/"he had our best interests at heart" brigade though. For all we don't really know The Thais intentions at least they're prepared to do things properly, genuinely for the good of the club and team.

Sorry I didn't know a question mark and an exclamation mark were now the universal standards for sarcasm?!

No I'd disagree, I'd say mine was far more obvious sarcasm?! And thus I must conclude you are autistic.

They've got to do some ground works involving moving one of the banks - the pitches are currently on different levels and to make one bigger they need to push the bank back.

I think this is all well underway now anyway though?

Yeah it says in the first post.

They are getting artificial type pitches.

It'll be the same standard of pitch as the one at the ground.

They are also trying to get permission to extend one of the training pitches.

With or without under-soil heating? :D
